Escape.

"No," a voice boomed from somewhere behind the sea of gathered pack members.

Kai lifted his head weakly and focused his eyes on a shape that was slowly making its way from behind the pack.

As his eyes remained on the shape, the features of Rose came into view. Dressed in a blood-red gown that made her complexion gleam strangely in the dark night, her long ebony hair falling in waves behind her back.

She was a pretty sight.

What made him even have feelings for such a devil?

Kai watched as Rose slowly made her way to the platform, her eyes glinting somewhat mischievously.

She climbed the platform slowly, cautiously, as if she was enjoying every single moment of what was happening.

"Let him speak," Rose announced, her voice cutting into the night air like a sharp arrow.

"He is one of Alpha Ross's trusted five and asides that every wolf in the Silver Moon pack had the right to a fair hearing. So let him speak before we jump to any conclusions."

A ripple of murmur rose from the sea of gathered wolves.

"Kill him."

"Yes, end him, he's a usurper."

Kai closed his eyes against the ugly sounds. He couldn't blame them; no lack would take their Alpha dying by a beta's hands lightly.

The offence was punishable by death.

But Kai didn't want to die. Somehow he had to convince them that he wasn't lying,  that his words over that of Luna were truth.

He didn't want to think about it. He would have to try his best.

Rise lifted a hand. Lake and delicate in the evening light and the gathered pack instantly fell silent.

"We'll let him speak, see what he has to say and the elders will decide if he is guilty or not."

There was another murmur of disagreement and again Rose lifted a hand hush, descending on the settlement with that gesture.

"In as much as I want this usurper to be killed each and every member of the Silver Moon, no matter the crime, is allowed a fair hearing."

Except this was no fair hearing. He already knew how this was going to turn out to end, but he couldn't lose hope now.

Rose motioned to Adam, who walked up to Kai, taking the silver off his neck with a sly grin.

"Good luck," he sneered.

As soon as the silver left Kai's body, he suddenly felt alive. All the aching parts in his body were instantly gone.

He could feel his wolf awakening and his powers returning. It would take time before he was at full strength, considering the amount of time the silver had been on his neck.

"I didn't kill your Alpha. Your Luna did it."

A harsh murmur rose from the pack and somewhere Kai could hear a low, deep growl.

"I don't know how I'm going to prove to you what I just said, but know this. Your Luna isn't all that she pretends to be."

"I have been a member of this pack since I was a child and I slowly made my way into the ranks of being the Alpha's trusted five. Why would I want to kill my Alpha? What motive do I have?"

Rose just stood off to the side, her face expressionless; her gown billowing around her like an angel of doom.

"Rose…"

Kai was cut short as Admas fist smashed into the side of his jaw snapping his head sideways.

His teeth bit his tinge, and he tasted blood. Swallowing the anger that his wolf was powering into him, he focused his gaze back on the pack.

"You will address her as Luna and not by her name or next time I'll be sure to take about some teeth with another punch," Adam growled in his ears.

"I beg you fellow wolves of Silver Moon Pack, ask yourself why a member of one of Alpha Ross's trusted five would want to kill him."

"Being one of the Alpha's trusted five makes it even easier for you to know the secrets about my mate and plan the day you are going to kill him."

Kai scoffed, disbelieving what he was heading.

."Kai here has an infatuation with me and ever since he assumed the position of trusted five he's been nurturing this idea till he finally executed the plan successfully.

Another murmur rose from the pack, and this one even more intense than the others.

"What's your proof Kai yelled, the anger he'd been pushing below surging to the top.

Rose turned to face him, and Kai shifted his eyes. He didn't want to look at her.

She was evil.

"Oh, I do have proof since that's what you want so bad.,"

"I will not call into another member of one of Alpha Ross's trusted five to tell is what he knows."

For the first time that night Kai was filled with pure terror when he saw how it was that was headed to the platform.

Liam.

His best friend. His best friend from childhood.

What the hell was Liam about to do?

Could Liam be the one Rose had been referring to that day?

I... I'm in love with someone else, a pack Beta.

It was all starting to make sense now the pieces of the puzzle were slowly shifting into place.

Kai watches as his best friend, since they were pack pups, climbed the platform without even as much as a glance in his direction.

"My name is Liam and I'm one of Alpha Ross' trusted five. The accused here has been my friend since they werewolf pups and a few days back he started showing strange interest in the Alpha position as well as the Luna."

"The only way to do this was to kill two birds with one stone, which meant killing the Alpha."

Kai could hear Liam, and he couldn't at the same time. He could hear words that sounded like his friend's voice, but none of them were making sense.

He was getting cold, numb.

"Alpha Ross was poisoned with wolfsbane," Rose cut in again, lifting two small glass vials into the air.

"While he was in his wolf form, we did a sweep of his room and found this there."

A collective murmur rose from the pack, and for Kai, he knew there was no going back. He couldn't convince the pack now.

His death was certain.

He just stood there drinking in everything; the pack's hatred for him in their eyes. Rose's cold face and Liam's posture.

Kai was too tired to protest anymore. There was no use. He had resigned to his fate.

"Given all the necessary testimonies and evidence, we shall wait for the elders' decision. He will be sent back to the darkroom till their decision for this death is final.

The pack gave a collective cry of joy, joy that an innocent man was going to be killed.

The last thing Kai saw before the silver was put back on his neck and he was dragged away from the platform was Roses's sneer.

        ***************************

When the door of the darkroom opened slowly somewhere in the middle of the night, Kai was too weak to ask who it was.

The silver had been tripled on his body and since then; he had been drifting in and out of consciousness.

He faintly heard the sound of footsteps walking over to him and suddenly the silver was lifted from his chest.

He opened his eyes and saw someone standing there dressed in a black cloak.

"Get up quickly. We don't have much time."

Even though his strength was coming back to him in minuscule proportions, he managed to stagger up to his feet.

The stranger grabbed his hands and led him out of the darkroom. Everything that happened after that was hazy.

The next thing he knew, the stranger had pressed a piece of paper into his hands and whispered into his ear.

"You are the son of your father, Kai, and I know you didn't kill the Alpha. Go far away from this pack. I can sense evil brewing."

Kai didn't need to be told twice. Gathering the last of his strength he shifted to his wolf form and ran out of the settlement.

He was leaving everything behind, a pack he had grown up with right from when he was a little pup.

Anger courses through him as he fled from the settlement. He would never be a wolf anymore.

Having a pack was useless. He would renounce everything that had to do with being a wolf.

Kai would become a rogue.
