Found Guilty (1)

Kai had lost all sense of time. To him, the only thing he could feel was the burning pain that

came from where the silver touched his body.

He hadn't been fed yet; hunger was the least of his problems.

He felt like he was slowly going mad the darkness of the room he had been out in coupled with his wild thoughts and most of all the silver.

The silver hurt like a bitch.

How had it happened so quickly? One minute he was returning from a run and the next minute he was accused of killing his Alpha.

He was definitely screwed. That much was certain.

When he had looked into the eyes of his full pack Betas, especially Adam he had seen no mercy there.

They weren't going to spare him. Kia was going to have to come to terms with the fact that this could be his last day to walk among wolves.

Yet he didn't feel fear. It was strange. He only felt a weird sense of detachment, something he couldn't fully explain.

Kia just lay there in the darkness, feeling nothing but anger. His wolf was mad. He had never felt his wolf get this angry, but now it was angry and it was seeking justice.

From the small window in the upper corner of the room, he could see the moon out in its full glory.

He couldn't believe the day of his execution had arrived already. It felt surreal.

Kate took in a deep breath that sent slivers of pain to his ribs and he exhaled.

You are going to die today.

That was his wolf speaking and it was pissed

What are you going to do about it?

Nothing. He could do absolutely nothing about his predicament.

Kai sniffed the air around him, and he knew the pack was getting ready for his trial. He could smell the campfires and the different set of emotions he was getting from the pack.

They were excited. He could tell that much from just their scent. Most of the young ones in the pack had never heard or seen an Alpha killed before.

Yesterday Rose had made sure of that. The look he had seen in her eyes still chilled him.

Have you ever been in love before?

Rose's words had rung into his head clearly. What sort of madness had gotten into his childhood friend to make her kill his Alpha and then frame him?

Kai hissed, he would never know.

Because you'd be dead by then.

He heard the footsteps even before they reached within earshot.

The door of the room swung open, and he didn't need a light to tell him who was inside the room.

The silver had and was still affecting his werewolf powers, but he still had some fight in him

"Liam," Kia called out easily in the dark.

There was no answer, but he knew it was Liam. He knew his best friend's scent anytime any day.

Liam stepped close to him and he could smell anger coming from his best friend.

"So you think I killed the Alpha too?" Kai asked, his voice harsh.

"Did you do it?" Liam asked, his voice barely a whisper.

"You and I both know the answer to that question."

"I don't, and I think you killed him. Luna was right all along. You were secretly craving the position of Pack Alpha."

All along.

Kai wondered how long Rose had been building up to this day, how long she had been spreading lies with his name.

It was no use now to argue. Even his best friend was of the idea he had killed the Pack Alpha.

"You're going to die."

Kai said nothing. He didn't need a reminder.

Liam turned and left, and Kai felt another stab of pain from where the silver came directly in contact with his heart.

The rage was building slowly and soon he would be overcome with it swept with anger so unbridled it might push him to attack members of his pack.

Fear was creeping into his mind once again. In a way, he didn't need to die.

He hadn't done a lot of things like wolves of his age did. He hadn't found a mate yet and he hadn't kissed a girl yet.

Sitting in the darkness of the room, he realized he wanted to do those things. He wished he would be able to do them one last time before death claimed him.

Had it been a bad thing to love Rose even after all these years? Had it been a bad thing to disagree with her plan.

Had he made a mistake not reporting to Ross earlier.

Yes, you were stupid for making all these mistakes.

His elf wasn't helping issues. It was angry, and that wasn't an emotion he was seeking for right now. Even if he charged at the pack he was still one wolf.

He would be beaten back and maybe even killed.

Maybe if he tried to reason with the elders, allow them to see the truth. Maybe, just maybe, he stood a chance.

No one will listen to you, you're just a beta accessing a Luna.

His wolf was right. That option was useless.

Kai gave another shape intake of breath as he felt the silver dig even deeper to a new area.

If the elders didn't sentence him to die, then the silver was going to kill him first.

His highly sensitive hearing picked up sounds coming from outside the cell.

The door of the cell opened with a clang, and he could hear footsteps file into his room. Even though his wolf was now weak, limiting his powers, he still had enough strength to know three people had entered the room.

"Are you ready Kai?" A voice sneered.

"Ready for what?" Kai taunted.

"You still have the balls to be a smart ass."

I always hated him. His wolf snapped.

Kai didn't like Adam either but he was too weak to fight back.

"Well it's my last day so I can spend it as I want and say what I want, don't you think?"

"You got that damn right," Adam chuckled.

"Pick him," Adam commanded.

Two pairs of hands reached out for Kai in the darkness, lifting him by the armpits as the silver dig deeper into his skin.

"Fuck! " he cursed, the pain bringing tears to his eyes.

Kai was dragged out of the cell past the pack's settlement, the tips of his shoes digging into the dirt creating a straight line after him.

He didn't have the strength to protest. He was going to save it to try and convince the elders that Rose was a madwoman.

He looked to his side to see who was carrying him and saw Dean and Trey, two Omega twins.

Kai wasn't exactly good friends with them but he had tried them when they were recruits for the pack.

"You guys think I did this too?" he's asked, looking up at the both of them.

They didn't say a word their faces passive of any expression.

Kai tired his face to the ground and felt his eyes burn with the incoming surge of hot tears.

Why him. Why him, why did he have to take the blame.

He couldn't hear his wolf nor could he sense it. It was dying.

The silver had been in his body longer than forty eight hours and he was even surprised his wolf had lasted that long

"Look up Kai". Adam said sharply behind him.

Kai obliged, tilting his neck up to look at the image in front of him.

The whole pack was there. He didn't even know their numbers were up to that extent up until now.

Men, women, and children, even pups. Everybody was there to witness the killing of an innocent man.

A wooden platform stood in the center of the gathering as the pack circled it. On the platform was a single stick that was as wide as the girth of a tree.

Standing close to the wood was another beta holding a rope and a flaming wooden torch like some harbinger of death, the fire glancing off his face, giving his features a menacing look.

"Do you see that, Kai? That is judgment for you."

"Fuck you, Adam," Kia said weakly.

He was starting to see dark spots dancing in the corner of his vision, coupled with this warm fuzzy feeling that felt like sleep to him.

Blissful sleep.

But he knew it wasn't sleep. The abyss of death was calling, and Kai considered closing his eyes.

If he died by the silver, it would be better than whatever the pack was going to do to him if he didn't convince them that he wasn't the one who killed his Alpha.

Dean and Trey went around the circle, which was the gathered pack using an opening that made way to the left of the pack to maneuver him to the platform.

Oscuri, you here, stay with me, buddy.

His wolf didn't reply and Kai closed his eyes, the tears finally streaming down from his face.

He was on the platform now and Dean and Trey pulled him up, placing his back to the wood as they tried his hands beneath the wood.

The silver was still on his body. They didn't take it off.

Dean and Trey stoked off the platform, disappearing into the maze of the gathered pack members.

With his wolf now dormant, so were his powers. He kicked his lips, tasting the salty bitterness that was his tears.

He fixed his eyes on the gathered pack members. They were all silent. Not even a single sound could he hear.

They all had their eyes fixed on him and it creeped him.

He opened his mouth to speak and found it very difficult.

Adam climbed the platform and took the silver off his neck with his gloves hands, placing it inside a box and passing it to an Omega who took it away to its storage location.

"The reason we are gathered today from all corners of the world as long as you answer to the Silver Moon Pack isn't new news."

"Here standing behind me is Kai, a Beta of this pack and one of Alpha Ross's trusted five. He stands here under the charge of killing his Alpha, one of the greatest treasons in the werewolf community."

"As we all know, the offense is punishable by death."

Kai, barely alive as the silver was taking his last vestiges of strength, heard the pack give a collective murmur.

"If you know the punishment vetted out to him is okay, please lift your hands into the air."

Kia watched as half the pack lifted their hands into the air, the murmur changing to an excited clamor of voices.

"Very well, then. It's been decided we will kill him."
