Chapter 2

                               20 years later.

“honey!”

“yes mom”

“can you get me my journal, I left it on top of the table in the sitting room”

“I’m coming mom” charlotte responds, her long red hair has always been a problem for her as she tries to get the Journal from her long her gets stuck on the chair.

“mom I really have to cut this hair come winter” Charlie whines back.

“no my dear you will not” says Hayes, as she comes to her rescue, she unclips the hair from the rickety chair and grudgingly lets it fall.

“do not cut this hair” she warns as she marches forward.

“I might have to mother” Charlie mouths to herself as she picks up her bag and turns to leave.

“ma I’m off to school” she yells.

“yes. Come back soon will you” Hayes saunters into the sitting room to give Charlie a peck on her cheek.

“yes I know” Charlie, could always feel the expectancy of her mother, it was like she had never truly gotten over the loss of her only daughter, and so she wanted to see both Vicki and Charlie in one person, too bad Charlie wasn’t having that. Two years after the death of her father, they left New Orleans, to start over, and now eighteen years later they’ve returned, it’s even become worse now she is closer to Vicki.

With her heart hammering in her chest, she decides to leave the pain she’s been feeling for months now at the door. They left for New York to start over, but on coming back here, she could still feel the betrayal, the hurt, and the hatred, so for the best part of it she decides to go to a different school. But being a werewolf, just being a werewolf attracts some king of war zone, and fighting has always been one thing Charlie has been in love with.

Closing the door Charlie takes in a long breath and says a short prayer to whoever is listening, then she walks to school, her walk takes a small part of her energy. But staying out in the open and receiving air has always been a good way to ward off bad vibes.

Charlie attends a part time school, hence the reason she is still at school at the age of twenty-five, the same can’t be said for her sister though, at the age of Twenty-six Vicky is already head of finance at the black fur company, and a model at that, her pictures were hung on bill boards, and she’s even appeared on television. ‘and all I do is to fight at my spare time’ Charlie thinks to herself. Black fur used to be her father’s company, until the inevitable happened. It’s been long but she still thinks about it, the way people didn’t even care, it was like she was the only one who had ever laid eyes on her dad. But that was a lie. He was their alpha.

On reaching the school block, charlotte’s ears perked up, to catch a sound any sound, her senses heightened to catch a scent and to hear a word, because last time someone almost threw her a bullet, better to be safe than sorry. Charlotte takes slow steps toward the school door, it’s a relatively small school, that has been built for the benefit of those who didn’t have enough, or those who didn’t want to go to school all the time.

“Harrison’s” it has a huge clinic, and it’s owned by doctors, who are rich, they also have a health care center in the city, almost close to black fur.

Charlie, doesn’t have friends, she’s always found it hard to keep one for too long. Opening her school bag to take out her book for the next class she bumps into a solid back, and like the spit fire she is, she speaks up first.

“why did you stop?” she asks, the big black guy turns around and looks at her only to reveal a pair of green eyes, what a contrast to his dark skin she thought, he looked smart, his height is something she will have to keep in her mind for a few days, but something was off, he had a scent, and it’s been a long time since she’s come in contact with a student that was like her, he had a scent but it wasn’t strong, it was like something was covering his scent like it was covered up by a heavy wood.

“I’m sorry” for a huge guy, he cowers a lot, charlotte noticed the way his back was hunched, and even his hoodie looked like it has seen better days, she looked down only to notice the man had scars. And his hands were constantly shaking. What would make such a tall handsome spec like this guy, cower in fear.

“hey dude” another voice pipes in. two other hefty guys hit him hard on his back, that hit sent waves of pain to her spine, it was like a hard blow to her.

“what do you say we take that walk we had yesterday” mutters one to his ears.

When they notice charlotte looking at her they raise up to their full height, drawing a crowd, the black guy was taller, but not as muscular, and it made her think, if he had the scent she just perceived then why isn’t he the bully, why is he the victim, even in normal cases, the big guy was never bullied, and he looks fine like handsome, sexy, charming, fine, he looks like a readymade man, with beautiful set of green eyes.

“looking for something miss pretty?” asks the other puffier guy to charlotte.

“no thank you” charlotte says as she leaves the scene and walks further into her anatomy class.

But her ears never left, it was like she left an imprint on the wall, she could hear every blow, and every grunt released from the victim’s mouth.

“why doesn’t he fight back” charlotte asks no one I particular as she slowly takes a seat. On the other side of the wall Richard’s cries could be heard, it sounded painful, but the non-chalant by passers didn’t care how hurt he was, no one cares in college, especially when a black is the victim.

After the blows have been taken by Richard, he picks up his bag, and painfully walks to his class, but his strange limp, and disfigured face gives him away. all his life it’s been from one bully to the other, the two men were just his new set of bully since last week Tuesday.

Charlotte never put the thought of that man out out of his mind, and coincidentally he sat beside her in the biology class, his scent like wood and fur, and something else that screamed power, even she wanted to jump him, and his skin although black drew out his irises, but she could also smell his blood, and her heart pricked, she’s always hated bullies, and the thought that the huge man could be a victim irked her. His eyes once stopped on her and she stopped thinking, it was that beautiful.

“hey wolf girl” comes a strong distraction, Alpha Andrews sister, the humblest person she’d ever seen.

“yes what’s up?” Charlie asked her hand constantly on her backpack.

“I saw you ogling that wierdo” Charlie looks at her, her stare making Camilla cringe, and move few steps backward.

“I don’t think he is a wierdo” she dismisses Camilla’s words.

“yeah whatever”

Immediately they both come out and get hit by the sun, they squint, the immediate effect of the sun making them cover their eyes with their hands.

“urggh I hate the sun” says Camilla, her perfectly manicured fingers making a circular movement around her stomach.

“you’re hungry huh” asks Charlie.

“yeah, you?, maybe we can go get something to eat”  Camilla is a teacher, a lecturer to be specific, and Charlie always felt embarrassed walking with her, seeing her up in the classroom is enough for her, so with that thought in mind, Charlie walks away from her space and stalks toward the nearby grocery shop, “just a little bit of peace and quiet” she mutters under her breath, taking her already battered signature pink air pods and put it in her ears, she’s about putting the other in but she gets intercepted, already sensing the two huge pigs standing both beside her and behind her a sly smile graces her face.

She turns back looking every bit as scary as she can get, unfortunately for the two bullies they don’t get the memo.

“we could go somewhere quiet to finish this Sam; don’t you think?” asks the other reserved one to the very eager one.

“oh yes we can” replied Sam, he grabs charlotte by the arm and so not subtly walks her toward the nearest bush, a lot of eyes were already looking their way, but it seems eager Sam is to blinded by his emotions to even let go off her arm.

“why don’t we walk so not close to each other” requests Charlie.

“I oblige to that Sam” says his other friend.

“Urrgh” Sam grunts, he leaves her and begins leading the way. That crazed smile still remained on her face.
