SOFIA'S POV

I was scared to the teeth. I couldn’t stop shaking.

They came for me again.

Not someone else, but for Me.

The sound of bullets still rang in my ears. That horrible crack… the glass breaking… Dane’s body covering mine… it all kept replaying in my head like a broken record.

My hands were pressed tightly against my chest as I cowered beside Dane. My body wouldn’t stop trembling. My breathing was shallow, fast, and uneven.

I couldn’t understand it. I hadn’t done anything wrong.

Why did they want me dead?

“What have I done?” I whispered to myself. “Why me?”

Dane turned to me immediately. He could see the fear on my face—feel it, even. “Hey, hey, look at me,” he said gently, placing his hand on my cheek. “You’re okay now. You hear me? I won’t let anyone hurt you.”

I nodded a little, but it didn’t stop the panic inside. “They… they shot at me again,” I whispered, tears filling my eyes. “They were trying to kill me, Dane.”

“I know,” he said, wrapping his arms tightly around me

SOFIA'S POV We didn’t make it to the safe house. The idea of hiding from his enemies didn't sit well with Dane, so he immediately ordered the car to return home.We drove straight home, fast and quiet. Nobody spoke. The only sound in the car was my own heartbeat pounding in my ears. I sat close to Dane, still shaken. My hands wouldn’t stop trembling. My chest felt tight, and my stomach was in knots. Dane didn’t say a word during the ride, but I could feel the anger coming off him. His jaw was clenched. His eyes were hard. His hand never left mine. He held it the whole way, squeezing gently—like he was silently telling me he was there. When we finally got home, Dane jumped out first. He didn’t even wait for the door to be fully opened before shouting, “Lock down the house!” Guards rushed forward immediately, closing the gates, checking the cameras, securing every exit. I followed Dane inside, my legs feeling weak. I wanted to curl up and cry—but I also wanted answers. Dane

  • ONCE FORSAKEN, NOW THE LYCAN KING’S LUNA   Chapter 56

DANE'S POV The air in the East Wing was heavy. Thick with blood, fear, and silence. Mike and his lords were on their knees like I ordered. Some were bleeding from their mouths, others holding their ribs or wiping sweat from their faces. They looked broken—but not all the way. Not yet.I stood in front of them, tall and cold. Arms crossed. Face like stone. These were the same men who used to sit at my table. Drink with me. Laugh. Plan with me. Now, they were prisoners.Traitors.I looked at Mike, but he didn’t meet my eyes. I took a slow step forward. My boots made a loud thump against the marble floor. Then I said the words. “Remain loyal to me… or die.”Just like that. The words hung in the air like smoke. The lords immediately turned to look at Mike, like scared dogs waiting for their leader’s permission to breathe.Mike didn’t say a word. He clenched his jaw, but I saw the panic in his eyes.I walked toward him slowly, my voice calm but sharp like a blade. I stepped closer, now ju

  • ONCE FORSAKEN, NOW THE LYCAN KING’S LUNA   Chapter 57

DANE'S POV The next morning, I woke early, the sound of Sofia moving quietly through the house pulling me from my thoughts. I’d been up all night, staring at the ceiling, trying to figure out the next step. But for now, I knew what I had to do.I walked down the hallway to find her standing by the window, her back turned to me. She was looking out at the garden, her shoulders tense. "Sofia," I said, and she turned to look at me, her expression unreadable.I gave her a small smile, trying to ease the tension in the room. "I’ve made arrangements. You’ll be resuming school tomorrow, just like I promised."Her eyes widened. There was a brief flicker of shock, followed by a mixture of emotions—relief, fear, uncertainty. She opened her mouth, as if she wanted to say something, but then closed it again. "I know it’s a big step," I continued, walking over to her. "But it’s what you wanted, right? To get back to something normal, to live the life you deserve."She bit her lip, her gaze drop

SOFIA'S POV I followed closely behind Dane as he led the way toward the room where the man from the North was waiting. My heart was beating fast, the unease in the air almost palpable. I had no idea who this man was or why he had come, but I could feel the weight of the unknown pressing on both of us.The man stood there, tall and bulky, his posture rigid. There wasn't a trace of a smile on his face. His eyes were cold, unreadable, like the stone walls of a fortress. His presence alone made the room feel smaller, more suffocating.I could swear I had never seen anyone so stern in my entire life. He looked like someone who had been hardened by years of battles, of survival. His gaze flickered briefly toward me, but only for a moment before he turned his focus back to Dane.Dane didn’t hesitate. He stepped forward with confidence, though I could see the tension in his shoulders, the way his jaw tightened as if preparing for something he couldn’t control. He greeted the man with a respe

  • ONCE FORSAKEN, NOW THE LYCAN KING’S LUNA   Chapter 59

SOFIA'S POVWe sat around the large dining table, the man from the North taking a seat next to Dane. The food was laid out before us, but it felt like I couldn’t fully taste anything, my thoughts swirling too much to focus on my meal. The man from the North, with his rough, northern accent, started to speak as soon as he settled in, cracking jokes that seemed to fill the air with an awkward tension. Some of the jokes were lighthearted enough to make me chuckle, but most of them felt forced. I couldn’t help but notice how his smile never quite reached his eyes, how his laughter was hollow. "You know, in the North, we don’t need an alarm clock. We just let the cold wake us up. If you’re not shivering, you’re already late for the day!" The man cracked Dane laughed loudly, irritating me a bit. “Now that’s a wake-up call! I might just take that advice for the next winter.”I forced myself to take a bite of my food, but it tasted bland, almost tasteless. I chewed slowly, trying to make i

  • ONCE FORSAKEN, NOW THE LYCAN KING’S LUNA   Chapter 60

SOFIA'S POV That night, everything felt too quiet. The room was dark, the windows open just a little to let in the night air. The moonlight fell softly on the floor, and the box from the northern man sat on the table—untouched. I hadn’t opened it. I didn’t dare. Something about it still made my skin crawl.Dane had stepped out for a while to handle something with the guards. He said he wouldn’t be long. I told him I’d wait up.But now, alone in the room, I started to feel something strange. The air grew cold—colder than before. And then I felt it… a presence. Like someone else was in the room with me.I sat up slowly on the bed, my heart pounding in my chest. “Hello?” I whispered, my voice shaking. “Is someone there?”Silence. But then I saw it—a shadow moving by the corner of the room. It wasn’t the wind. It wasn’t my imagination. Someone… something… was there. My throat tightened. I couldn’t move. The figure stepped closer. I couldn’t see its face, but I could feel the danger. It

DANE'S POV The next morning, I was walking through the halls when a guard came to me and said, “My Lord, the guest from the North wishes to speak with you. He says it is urgent.”I frowned. It was still early, and I hadn’t expected to see him until much later in the day. I nodded and followed the guard. When I reached the guest chambers, the man from the North stood near the window, already dressed and packed. His clothes were neat, but his face wasn’t calm like before. He looked… unsettled. His hands were tight at his sides, and there was no sign of his usual smirk or boldness.“You wanted to see me?” I asked, stepping into the room.He turned around quickly, almost too quickly. “Yes,” he said. “I must return to the North. Immediately.”I raised an eyebrow. “So soon? You said you’d stay a few more days.”He gave a stiff nod. “Yes. I did. But… something has come up. Very urgent.”I took a step closer, watching him carefully. “Is everything alright?” I asked. “You don’t seem like you

DANE'S POV I stood over his bleeding body, the weight of what I had done pressing heavily on me. His blood, dark and thick, pooled around him on the cold stone floor. The iron scent filled the room, and I could feel it in my nostrils, sharp and bitter, like a reminder of the choice I had made.My hands shook slightly, but not from fear—no, not fear. My heart raced with something different. .I had seen him, the Northerner, his eyes wild, his expression twisted with fury as he charged at me. He had wanted my life. He had come for me, just like I had known he would. The knife in my hands had stopped him—just in time. The gash in his belly was enough to slow him, enough to take his strength away. And now here he was, crumpled at my feet.I knew it wouldn’t sit well with the North. This was their man—one of their own. The anger, the rage, it would be loud, I was sure of it. But I didn’t care. Let them say what they would. Let them call it an insult, an act of war, whatever they wanted

SOFIA'S POV What in the world was happening to Dane. Why was he acting this way? Fear gripped me, twisting me in its clutches so hard that I began to shiver.Mike took him off, insisting that I remain where I was. Why though? Shouldn't I be beside my husband when he needs me the most?“Don't worry, he'll be fine, soon.” Selene patted my shoulders as tears trickled down my face. She pulled me into her like a sister would.I sobbed, allowing the tears roll freely down my face. The appetite in me for food had suddenly vanished and all I wanted was to be alone.“Where are you going?” Selene asked, worried. I had pulled away from her and gradually walking away from the dining room. Mike arrived right then. “Let's eat, My Queen. Dane would be fine in a few minutes. He's just having a little difficulty controlling himself.”“Controlling himself?” I frowned. What did Mike mean by that? Why would Dane have any struggles controlling himself, and from what?“He's the only person who can explai

DANE'S POV It was becoming quite difficult. Damn it!! I had thought controlling the mate bond was possible, but I was wrong. What was that behavior I displayed before Sofia earlier? As I sat in my study, the feeling of guilt welled within me. It grew stronger with every passing minute until I could bear it no longer.I grunted, quickly wiping the tears that had gathered in my eyes. My feet tapped gently against the floor as I tilted my head backwards.Next, I was asleep, unconscious to whatever was happening around me. It was the most beautiful moment to me and I cherished it.Boom!! The door dashed open. I was enraged. Who could that be? And to defile my order to be left alone. As I raised my head, my gaze rested on Sofia. She stood, hands akimbo. I ogled back at her, lips glued together.“What are you doing here? I did ask to be left alone.” She scoffed, moving closer. “Why aren't you at the dining table yet?”Her tone. That was the first time she would use it, and I didn't like

SOFIA'S POV I jerked awake, panting. My life flashed before my very eyes and I surely would have died if I didn't wake up when I did.I fastened my hand around my neck and I could feel the grip on it. Whoever it was had nothing but the intention to snuff life out of me.I turned, grabbing the glass of water on the bedside table, emptying it in one gulp. It took a few minutes before I finally became myself.“Sofia,” the voice was soft, still. It could only be Dane. He stared at me, a bit worried. “Are you alright? I heard your scream from outside.”“I'm okay. Thank you.” I paused as it snapped within me. I didn't remember screaming, so how did he hear me scream?I thought for a few seconds then pushed it to the back of my mind. “It's alright. I'm here now” He wrapped his arm around me, gently making my head rest on his shoulder. My heart pounded hard. I couldn't keep calm. I wasn't sure how long it would take before my confidence in Dane is restored, but until then.“I'm still in awe

SOFIA'S POV I was having so much fun, right until Dane stepped in. The colors in my face drained within seconds.I couldn't help it. I had no control over it. The doctor's words had stuck within me, and there was no getting rid of it.If it was true that the white wolfsbane was found in the system of all Dane’s previous women, then there was no doubt he had a hand in their death.Thinking of it alone sent chills down my spine. I swallowed hard, faking a smile. I didn't want him suspecting anything, at least not yet.Tomorrow, I will be free to return home. I would start my investigation then. I wasn't sure how I was going to go about it though.“Have you had lunch yet?” Dane stared at me, with concern in his eyes. A soft grunt. “Not yet. Selene was about to order some, when you came in.”He mumbled. I didn't exactly get the word but I was certain he doubted Selene was truly going to order the food. I wasn't sure I could ever understand those two.It was beauty.. funny too.“And have

DANE'S POV I stood, a sinister grin on my face. The doctor — that good for nothing bastard. What was he saying to Sofie when he got in?Goodness knows whatever it is. Thank goodness he was dead now. I always knew I couldn't trust him entirely. As I watched Sofia eating, a feeling of excitement washed through me. It was sudden, exciting too. There was no explanation though.I was still surprised how she managed to survived the white wolfsbane that was found in her system. Such rare poison, and she still survived. For someone who didn't have a wolf. It was the most shocking thing I had ever seen in my lifetime, but it was beautiful too.Perhaps, the gods loved me enough and decided to keep my wife with me. She raised her head suddenly, our eyes meeting.I winked. And she blushed, carefully leading the food into her mouth, spoon after spoon..We were silence, but both understood each other's thought. It was soothing, pleasing. Only for a short while though.Selene walked in. Crude and u

SOFIA'S POV I stood, dumbstruck. My eyes flickered non-stop. Nothing made sense — most especially the sight before me.“Nooooo!!” My voice pierced through the sky, loud enough to awake the dead. My heartbeat tripled. I could feel it thumping against my chest.“Someone, please help..” I screeched. I was terrified. No, that was an understatement. The way I felt right then, I had never felt such way my entire life. The door flung open right then. Dane. He stood, his eyes resting on the corpse, then on me. “What happened?” He sounded cold, fierce too.My lips parted, slowly. I tried to speak but couldn't get the words out. My hands shook. My whole body too.“He.. he's dead.”Dane dropped the food he had dropped with him onto the table. “What happened? Please don't tell me..”He stared at me in a way that made my skin tingle. His hand wrapped around my shoulder as he stood next to me. “He.. he killed himself. I don't know why, and neither do I understand his reason for it, but he did it

SOFIA'S POV I sat still, my eyes darting around. Nothing made sense to me, definitely not the room I was in.My eyes darted around. They bore the confusion in my heart as I remained still. The door flung open abruptly. A nurse strolled in. She was fully covered. Strange. My brows creased as I glared at her for answers.“Finally! You're awake.” She smiled. It was quite contagious, but not to me though. “What's going on? Why am I here?” My displeasure was obvious, not in any way hidden.“You shouldn't be sitting here,” she muttered as I tried sitting upright. A sharp pain hit me hard in the back. I groaned, laying backwards at once.I was puzzled, and this nurse wasn't making things easier. Why wouldn't she answer me? My patience was starting to wane. “Why am I here?” Again, I asked. I snapped. “The doctor will be here soon,” she responded, and that was all. Her lips remained grimly pressed against each other as she did some things in there. I didn't pay attention to it, so there w

SELENE'S POV This is the first time you'd be hearing directly from me. I'm the only one in the right state of mind to do so though.Sofia was unconscious, fighting for her life. Dane was a shadow of him, broken by the causality that had befallen his wife.I sat in a corner, my hands fiddling against each other. The tears grew in my eyes. For the last hour, they had flown freely down my face…No attempt did I make at stopping them. An hour, and Sofia was still in the theatre.“We would have to operate on her,” the doctor had said to Dane and I after Sofia's examination. “She's been poisoned.” His voice had been cold. “A rare kind of Wolfsbane. We would have to operate on the queen.”Dane’s face had grown cold. He was terrified. Who could have done that to his wife? “Please do everything you can to save her.”It felt like an entire day had gone by since then. I was impatient. Seeing Sofia alive and well was all I wanted.“She'll be fine.” My arm wrapped around him. He snorted, his hea

DANE'S POV The name seemed to ring a bell, or maybe I thought it did.“No, I don't.” I smiled as Sofia flung the question in my face. We remained in each other's arms and the long for her intensified. My cock had grown hard, pressing hard through the trousers I wore. No doubt, Sofia could feel it against her thigh.Right then, my belly made a loud rumble. Sofia raised her head to me, laughing. “That was loud, wasn't it?”“You should ignore it.” “You sure? Have you had anything to eat today?” She asked, a worried grimace on her.I shook my head. “I can eat after I have eaten.” I leaned closer, my lips sucking hard at her neck. She giggled, a soft moan trailing from her lips. She pushed forward, her boobs pressing hard against my chest. Her nipples stood taut, pleading to be caressed.I latched at them, fondling with reckless abandon. She giggled, wincing. “Do you know what I'm going to do now?” I whispered gently at her, nibbling at her ears.“Oh I do.” Her eyes rolled. Just the wa
