LOGINChapter 7
Vivian POV "You know my mom is really stubborn, but I will try to convince her within the next two weeks." Hellen shrugged, narrowing her eyes. She still didn't believe me. "I know you still don't buy this, but trust me," I assured her. Hellen crossed her arms and moved closer to me, a calculating look on her face. "Fine. After two weeks, if this turns out to be a lie, you owe me a million dollars." I scoffed. "Seriously? I'm trying to save your ass, and you're asking for a million dollars?" She shrugged again. "This shouldn't be a problem if you're so sure of yourself." This lady! Okay, what if the apocalypse never happens? Not only have I lost a million dollars, but also made a fool of myself. "Fine, but if it does happen, you owe me" "What do I owe you?" I contemplated for a while, a sly smile gracing my lips. "You will be my personal spy during the apocalypse." Hellen chuckled. "Sure, if you aren't sending me to spy on zombies." "Of course not, there is someone I don't trust," I paused. "Damian Stark , my neighbor. He seems to know about the apocalypse too, even before I was reborn. Now he has fortified his apartment as well." "This sounds really creepy. But do you think he has something to do with it?" I started pacing around, thinking like my life depended on it. "I'm not quite sure, but we've got to find out". If Damian was indeed involved in this, that means I have to stop him at all costs before anyone gets hurt. ****** All day I kept checking the news, trying to see if I would get any hint of a coming outbreak. A knock on the door disrupted me, and my eyes slowly tore away from the TV. Who could it be? I swear if it's that jerk Noah, my fist tightened and I stormed to the door. I swung the door open with force. "I told you to leave me alone, you jerk—" My words hanged when I saw a different built in front of me. Noah was never this well-built and good-looking. I looked up slowly, and my jaws dropped when I saw Damian. "Woah, were you expecting someone else, Ms. Lake," he responded. My fist tightened the more that my knuckles literally turned red and smoky. "Ah, its even a bigger jerk," I retorted, folding my arms. "And what the fuck are you doing here, Mr. Stark, in a sweater and pants like this is your world?" I snarled. "What exactly is my world , Ms. Lake?" He bent slightly towards my level of height, and I rolled my eyes and pushed him off in the chest. "You know dark, evil, heartless, you name it" I moved inside, about to shut the door, but he held it firmly with his hands. "You talk so harsh and brutal about me, Ms. Lake. I wonder why." He still had that little tug on his lips. How I wish I could slap that annoying smirk off his face. "Stop calling my name like that in every sentence, and leave my door." "Like what, Ms. Lake?" This jerk was doing it on purpose. The way he said my name made my stomach swirl in a kind of way. He stepped further into my apartment, and I intuitively took a step back. "What do you want?" I furrowed my brows and tilted my head in confusion, but Damian did not respond. So I decided to play my cards. "How did the virus spread? How did it happen?" The halt in his step confirmed he knew something, but what he said next caught me by surprise. "I came here to ask you that, Ms. Lake. What a coincidence. Since you were reborn, I figured you might know." He moved forward, but now I remained glued to my spot, saying to myself, 'I won't let him feel like I was intimidated by him.' His eyes moved around my room. "You did a good job on your apartment. I guess the outbreak will be nice to you." "And how is that your business?" I sneered. He stood so close to me now, a few inches, his good features more prominent. His dark eyes bored into mine. "Let's work together, Ms. Lake, to stop this, even though we can't prevent it." His voice softened. The way he said it could have been fake. I took a second to recollect myself, and just when I was about to look him in the eye for speaking that way, the door burst open and my eyes moved to the door. "Noah!" Noah stood there, face in shock and pure anger. "You! I will kill you!" He moved swiftly, and so fast before I could stop him, he had already done the deed. "Noah!"Chapter 7Vivian POV"You know my mom is really stubborn, but I will try to convince her within the next two weeks." Hellen shrugged, narrowing her eyes. One second, two seconds, three seconds passed. The air remained dead quiet around us until Hellen finally let out a sound of pure disbelief."A what?!" she cracked out."Think about it. Why else would I fortify my place? Why would Damian Stark suddenly buy this entire building, drive everyone out, and start fortifying the whole property?" I pointed out.Hellen nodded slowly, as if she were processing the weight of it all."So, you are telling me that you and Damian Stark can see the future?" she asked calmly."No," I replied, giving her a deadpan look. "Look, everything already happened before. Two years into the apocalypse before I died, I woke up a month before it all started. I told you about your mother's sickness. You couldn't leave her but had no choice because the zombies were everywhere. They broke into your apartment first because it was the most vulnerable spot, and you even saved my life. I have seen it all, and that's why I'm telling you this."Hellen stared at me in shock
CHAPTER 5Two weeks left before the apocalypse, and my apartment was already done. Yesterday, I almost emptied the supermarket. My whole apartment was packed with stuff: food, weapons, gas, and I had even installed solar panels.I didn't see the need to go to work anymore. I just had to mentally prepare myself for that day. I didn't have anyone to run to, no family to look after or keep safe either. In two weeks, half the city would be turned into zombies, and I was here grooming myself in my apartment.I felt pity. What if I just warned them—these innocent people—or dug into it? Would I be able to stop it?The gas leaked first on Golden Lane Street. I hadn't been to that place, but at least I knew that was where Vance Villa was located. After the Starks, there were the Vances, their biggest rival. Somehow, if you knew the Starks, you knew the Vances. The Vances were not a family to speak of lightly.Something wasn't right here, and I couldn't wrap my head around it. Did the Starks ha
CHAPTER 4I spent the night at a nearby hotel. Although I refused to sleep, I kept thinking about the coming apocalypse. Today was the day of the meeting with Damian Stark, and I wasn't nervous one bit.I stopped by my apartment to check the progress. It was going well. The building was oddly quiet today, and to my surprise, the apartment next door was also undergoing a renovation—the same apartment that belonged to Damian during the apocalypse. He had already started fortifying it.Back then, when it first happened, I didn't think much about it. I just thought the person moving in might be on high alert, or I even thought he was a criminal. Something had changed. Why did it seem like all the neighbors were gone this time?I moved closer to one of the workers working on Damian's apartment."What happened here?" I asked. The man stared me up and down. "Are you the lady next door?"I nodded, and he gave me a wry smile. "Someone from the Stark team just bought this entire building and to
CHAPTER 3THIRD PERSON POVThe surprise was evident on the three people's faces. They had all been summoned to Vivian Lake's office without any prior notice. The HR manager, the finance department manager, and Vivian's secretary, Mark, stood together, wondering why their boss had suddenly called them for an urgent meeting. Perhaps it had something to do with the project involving Damian Stark."Aren't you the secretary? You should know why we were called," Collins, the HR manager, said to Mark.Mark shrugged. He already regretted telling them about their boss's unusual behavior that morning. Now, they wouldn't stop pestering him."There was no schedule for this, Collins. She doesn't even seem pleased about having to call you here. Will you two shut up?" Mark retorted sharply. The finance manager rolled his eyes. Before anyone could say anything else, the office door opened.Vivian Lake walked in. She smiled when she saw the three of them comfortably talking, but the smile didn't reach
Chapter 2I have to prepare for a zombie apocalypse in one month, and I can't afford to be left vulnerable. I made a phone call to a trusted company that can renovate my apartment into something more structural, stronger, and definitely something that could manage me for an apocalypse.I didn't stay in the company for long. I had a meeting with the team in charge of renovating my apartment. I told them to install iron doors and windows. They should wrap the walls with iron plates and make it soundproof. Install a surveillance camera everywhere in the building, even at my apartment door. They were confused at my request but did not question further. My phone rang, and it was Sarah calling."Hey babes, why did I stop at your apartment and see like hundreds of workers renovating the whole place?" Sarah asked.I rolled my eyes, running my hands through my hair. This hypocritical bitch."Oh, I just wanna make some changes, you know. I feel insecure about my apartment," I replied, making up
