OSCAR GRAY

The sound of movement stirred me from sleep the next morning. I blinked into the semi-darkness, disoriented for a moment. The room was quiet—empty, save for me. But the faint noise was unmistakable. It had come from the bathroom.

I shifted under the covers and paused. I was in pajamas. My brows furrowed as I tried to piece together the night before. The pounding headache was gone—only a dull throb remained, like a distant echo of what had been. Strangely, I didn’t feel hungry either. It was as though I had already eaten.

How long had I been out?

Panic set in as I scrambled across the bed in search of my phone. It wasn’t there. I remembered being on a call with Tilda before everything went dark.

“Looking for this?” came a soft, familiar voice.

I froze.

A phone was gently placed into my hand. My breath caught. That voice... it couldn’t be. It sounded like her, but surely, I was still dreaming.

Then the curtains were drawn open, flooding the room with light. And there she was.

OSCAR GRAYI glanced at my watch and sighed. I had almost forgotten—it was the kids’ birthday today, and I had promised to be there. If I don’t want to be late, I better start going soon.I picked up the phone and dialed Tilda’s office. No response. I tried again. This time, someone answered.“Tilda?” I asked.“Hello, sir. This is Lovett,” came the reply.I rubbed my forehead. “Where is Tilda? Ask her to come to my office.”“Miss Tilda already closed for the day, sir,” Lovett informed me.“She did?” I murmured. She never mentioned she will leave on time today. “Alright, Lovett, come to my office.”A moment later, the door opened and she stepped in.“Sir, Miss Tilda mentioned she’d be leaving early today,” she explained. “I forgot to inform you.”“Get ready. You’ll be joining me on a visit after work,” I said, still focused on my desk.“Okay, sir,” she replied.“That’s all, you may go,” I told her.All day, I had looked forward to introducing Tilda to my little friends—but now she was

TILDA“Happy birthday, my cute cheeky babies,” I yelled as soon as I walked in.“Mommy,” the boys came running to me. “You bought us some gifts.”I could see the excitement in their eyes, and it gladdened my soul. I carried them one after the other according to the position.“Happy birthday, Denzel,” I kissed his cheek. “This is for you,” I handed the blue wrapped gift to him.“What’s inside, mommy?” he asked excitedly scanning the gift.“You can see for yourself,” I replied.I picked Dylan. “Happy birthday, cute Dylan,” I said with a kiss on his cheek. “Here is for you,” I handed him the gold wrapped gift. His eyes sparkled. “Mom, is it the green Nike sneakers I pointed at the store the other day?”I smiled, he was right. “Why not see for yourself?” I responded.“Oh, thanks for the sneakers, mom.” The moment he confirmed, he screamed and put them on.“And you, my Dixon,” I carried Dixon and planted a kiss on his cheek. “This is your gift.” I gave him the yellow wrapped gift.“Thanks,

JAMES“Is this Diamond’s house, Daddy? It looks so beautiful!” Shantel gasped, pressing her face to the window as the car slowed to a stop.I smiled, glancing at the impressive structure that rose before us—arched windows, tall ivory pillars, and a wrought iron gate that gleamed in the fading light. The garden was trimmed to perfection, hedges cut like they’d been measured with a ruler. Indeed, Parkview Housing is a place to be.“Seems we’re finally here,” I murmured, more to myself than to her, still caught in the quiet awe of the place.I stepped out, the gravel crunching beneath my shoes, and circled to her side to open the door. A soft breeze carried the scent of fresh flowers, and the whole street had a stillness to it—an elegant, expensive kind of peace.“This is a cool neighborhood,” I said under my breath, casting a glance down the road. Each house looked like it belonged in a magazine—neat driveways, flowering trees, polished cars parked with intention.Shantel climbed out, h

OSCAR GRAY My phone buzzed, it was a call from the kids. “Oh, it’s been a long time I heard from them,” I murmured, allowing it ring.Tilda looked up from her desk when the ringing stopped. “Who is that?” she asked.I brushed it off. “Some little friends. I will call back when I get to the office.”She smiled. “I will send the file over as soon as I am done,” she revealed.“Today,” I was stunned.“Yes sir. I should be done with it soon. All along I have been trying to find a better way to go about securing the International Trade complex project without the required capital. That’s why it took this long.”I was impressed. She was so diligent with her task no matter how challenging. Up until now, no one thought of finding an alternative for the project.“And have you been able to do that?” I asked. She nodded. “Yes sir,”“And how did you,” I inquired.“You will find out when you get the file,” she smiled.“You will be in the board for this project, Tilda. Your contribution so far has

TILDAWhen evening came, I left Miranda to finish up. Oscar had promised a surprise today, and I was finally going to find out what it was. It was a day filled with surprises, and I hoped not to be consumed in it.“How do you like your place, sweetheart?” he asked over dinner at his house, watching me with soft eyes as he took a sip of wine.“Oh, the house is lovely, Oscar. I love it so much,” I said, smiling as I set down my fork.“If it’s not exactly what you imagined, just say it. I’ll have it changed immediately,” he said, waving a servant over for more water.I laughed. “Be serious now, will you? The house is perfect for me. More than enough.”He gave a little nod, but his lips curved slightly, as if amused by my modesty.“So, what’s the surprise?” I asked, leaning forward.“You’ll see. I’m taking you there,” he said with a wink. After the meal, we climbed into his car. The city lights blurred past the window while silence settled between us. My mind wandered, trying to guess whe

TILDA“Is this the house?” I gasped the moment the car rolled to a stop in front of the massive structure. My jaw dropped. “It’s so big and... and beautiful.” I was completely dazed.Lovett giggled as she stepped out of the car. “Everything’s already in place, Tilda. Welcome to Parkview Housing.”“You can step out now,” Chloe said gently.I got down slowly, still rooted in place as I took it all in. The grand driveway, the landscaped lawn, the sleek white walls with dark windowpanes—it felt surreal. I couldn’t stop picturing the kids’ faces when they saw this.As we walked toward the front door, Chloe leading, Lovett leaned in to whisper, “I’m not saying you don’t deserve this, Tilda. But we both know Mr. Gray wouldn’t settle for anything less for his woman.”I said nothing. Words failed me. I was overwhelmed.“He picked everything himself—the design, furniture, fittings. All of it,” Lovett continued. “It’s a six-bedroom ensuite. You could turn a few into anything you want.”“Thank yo
