Chapter 4

Antonia felt a tight, suffocating knot form in her throat, but she swallowed it down. She refused to let them see her break. She would not give Portia or anyone else in this room the satisfaction of a single tear.

Squaring her shoulders, she marched straight down the aisle. Her steps were firm, her gaze locked onto the whiteboard. Ignoring the burning stares and the venomous whispers cutting through the air, Antonia grabbed the whiteboard eraser.

With calm, deliberate strokes, she began to wipe away the disgusting words. She wiped until the board was completely white again, erasing the lies they tried to pin on her character.

But the moment she dropped the eraser, a sharp, wet crack echoed right behind her head.

A raw, slimy yellow yolk splattered across the clean whiteboard, dripping onto Antonia’s shoulder. Before she could even turn around, a barrage of eggs flew from the tiered seats. Crack. Crack. Crack. They hit her back, her arms, and her hair, the foul smell instantly filling the room.

The classroom erupted into a chaotic roar of laughter and cruel jeers. Students filmed her on their phones, pointing and mocking her humiliated state.

Standing at the front of the room, dripping with slime, Antonia felt the crushing weight of the nightmare. It was too much. The cruelty was suffocating. Every instinct told her to run, to hide, to scream.

But as she looked down at her trembling, egg-stained hands, she thought of home. She thought of her family, surviving on cheap meals, counting every peso, and sacrificing everything just so she could have a shot at a better life.

This scholarship was the only thing she had. It was her one golden ticket—the only weapon she possessed to pull her loved ones out of the crushing cycle of poverty.

If she gave up now, Portia wins. If she ran away, her family's future dies with her dreams.

Forcing her breathing to steady, Antonia stood her ground amidst the flying debris and the mocking laughter.

Her heart was breaking, but her spirit remained unbroken. She looked out at the sea of cruel faces, her eyes flashing with a fierce, quiet resolve that completely defied her humiliating state. She would survive this storm, no matter how dirty it got.

The heavy classroom doors suddenly creaked open, and the chaotic laughter died down to a nervous murmur. Professor Santos stepped into the room, her eyes briefly sweeping across the lecture hall.

They paused on Antonia, who stood dripping with egg yolk at the front of the room, surrounded by cracked shells and a ruined whiteboard.

Antonia felt a sudden surge of hope, expecting the authority figure to restore order and punish the bullies.

Instead, Professor Santos simply adjusted her glasses, turned her gaze toward the podium, and began unpacking her lecture materials as if the board were completely clean.

"Settle down, everyone. Open your textbooks to page forty-five," she announced, her voice flat and utterly indifferent. She completely closed her eyes to the glaring injustice right in front of her.

A cold, hard realization washed over Antonia, heavier and more suffocating than the humiliation she had just endured.

She knew it already. She knew exactly what this meant. This was the terrifying reach of Portia's power and wealth.

Portia’s influence was so absolute that she could effortlessly silence a tenured professional, turning a person of authority into a blind bystander.

It was a brutal, silent statement thrown directly in Antonia's face: In this university, money and status can run over someone with no power at all, and no one will ever come to save you.

Looking at the indifferent professor and the smug, smirking faces of her classmates, Antonia felt the crushing weight of her reality.

She was completely on her own, fighting a system rigged by the elite.

Yet, as she pulled out a pack of tissues to quietly wipe the slime from her skin, her despair began to morph into something else—a quiet, dangerous spark of resilience.

They had wealth, power, and the system on their side, but Antonia had a fire fueled by survival, and she refused to let them extinguish it.

The morning of their actual wedding day arrived not with a storm, but with a perfectly peaceful dawn that slowly illuminated the valley. The ceremony was held at the modern villa, the very sanctuary where their walls had first crumbled. The vast glass doors were thrown completely open, allowing the gentle valley breeze to sweep through the minimalist, floral-draped altar. Before the peaceful dawn of their own wedding in the valley, there was one more celebration that had to take place. The air had finally cleared, and the season of healing brought with it the long-awaited wedding of the person who had risked everything to bring them back together: Monica. The grand church doors were bathed in the warmth of the afternoon sun as Portia and Antonia arrived, walking arm-in-arm. Antonia wore a sleek, midnight-blue cocktail dress that perfectly complemented the gold crescent moon and star necklace catching the light at her collarbone. Beside her, Portia looked effortlessly stunning in a matching tailored emerald silk dress, her hair pinned up elegantly, her hand firmly entwined with Antonia’s. Their exquisite beauty and magnetic presence were undeniable; as they glided down the aisle to their seats, they made almost everyone in the crowd turn their heads in sheer admiration, whispering about how breathtaking the couple looked together. They were guided

The lively applause of the crowd gradually softened as the grand ballroom's live orchestra began to play a slow, sweeping romantic melody. The transition from the chaotic flashing of cameras to this single, intimate moment was seamless. The rest of the world seemed to fade into a blur of distant lights as Portia and Antonia stepped into the center of the polished dance floor. Portia slid her hand naturally around Antonia's waist, pulling her close until their bodies clicked together perfectly, just as they always had. Antonia rested her left hand over Portia’s shoulder, her fingers gently brushing the dark velvet of her tuxedo jacket, while the dazzling diamond engagement ring caught the warm light of the chandeliers above. Their free hands intertwined, fingers locked in an unshakeable grip. They began to move, gliding across the floor in a slow, hypnotic rhythm. Antonia leaned inward, her chin resting gently against Portia's chest as she closed her eyes, completely surrendering

The morning of their official engagement party arrived with a brilliantly clear sky, casting a warm, celebratory glow over the entire city. Inside the executive suite of the penthouse hotel where the gala was being hosted, the atmosphere was a whirlwind of excitement. Designers, florists, and stylists moved with practiced efficiency, putting the final touches on the grand ballroom below. After years of manufactured heartbreak and public scrutiny, today was the day Portia and Antonia would officially claim each other before the entire world, completely on their own terms. Antonia stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling mirror, looking absolutely breathtaking in a custom-tailored, off-white silk suit that radiated elegance. She reached up to touch the heavy gold crescent moon and star necklace resting securely against her collarbone, a small, serene smile playing on her lips. On her left hand, the diamond engagement ring caught the morning sunlight, shimmering with an unshakeable bri

Portia smiled softly, her heart swelling with an emotion so profound it made her breath hitch. Reaching into her jacket pocket, her fingers closed around the heavy gold chain she had carried with her every single day. "It is real," Portia murmured, gently turning Antonia around so they were facing each other. With slow, deliberate movements, Portia brought out the gold crescent moon and star necklace. Antonia’s breath caught in her throat as she recognized it—the very armor she had abandoned on the brick hearth in a fit of desperate numbness. Portia stepped closer, brushing Antonia's hair to one side, and carefully slid the chain around her neck, fastening the clasp securely. As the pendant rested against Antonia's skin, Portia reached down and unthreaded the diamond engagement ring that had been safely kept on the chain. She took Antonia’s left hand, her fingers steady as she looked directly into her eyes. "And second, to match this," Portia whispered, her voice thick with em

"Shh, Portia, look at me... please," Antonia murmured, her own voice cracking as she cupped Portia's tear-stained face, forcing her to look up. She brushed away the tears with her thumbs, her gaze filled with a raw, fierce tenderness that completely obliterated the last remnants of her corporate facade. "I never stopped loving you," Antonia whispered, her forehead resting against Portia's as her own tears finally spilled over. "I never stopped, Portia. Not for a single second." Portia let out a shaky, broken breath, clinging to Antonia as if she were her only anchor in a collapsing world. "I tried so hard," Antonia confessed, a bittersweet, watery smile touching her lips. "I made myself believe that I had perfectly frozen my heart. I built those walls, wore that armor, and treated everyone with ice just to convince myself that the pain couldn't touch me anymore. But deep down... it never stopped. In fact, that's the exact reason I became so aloof and distant to the rest of
