Chapter 6: Chapter Six: Kneel

Author: Tutujiang
"You've been with the company for almost two years, right?"

"Mm."

The locker room always had several sets of work uniforms on hand. Doreen Pulitzer had already changed out of her wet clothes and dried her hair, though she hadn't had time to put on makeup.

Her porcelain-white cheeks were flushed with an unnatural rosy hue due to the cold, giving her a somewhat sickly beauty.

General Manager Li scanned her up and down discreetly before leaning back in his chair.

"I won't hold today's incident against you, but there's one thing you should know: the residents of Linquan are at the top of H City's social pyramid. Working here is your good fortune. Sometimes, it's better not to be too stubborn; it can lead to breaking. There's no point in turning a golden opportunity into a disaster. Don't you agree?"

Doreen Pulitzer met his gaze and nodded slightly.

"I understand, General Manager Li."

Back in the locker room, Mingyue, smug and disdainful, bumped into her.

With a loud "bang," Doreen Pulitzer, feeling lightheaded from a severe cold, stumbled and her shoulder hit the door. But at the same moment, her right hand quickly clamped onto Mingyue's forearm.

"What are you doing?!"

Feeling the pain, Mingyue struggled fiercely.

But Doreen Pulitzer gave her no chance, pulling and pushing her into a corner while simultaneously hooking the door shut with her foot.

Mingyue fell to the ground, her tailbone aching. She looked up, ready to shout, but froze when she saw those cold, hard black eyes.

Doreen Pulitzer slowly approached, bending down to pinch Mingyue's chin.

"I'm not touching you because I'm afraid of you or because I can't handle you. We're colleagues. If we can't get along, then let's just stay out of each other's way. If this happens again, you'll see what I mean."

Mingyue felt like her jaw was about to break, and her features twisted. Up close, Doreen Pulitzer's face remained expressionless, and even her voice, despite the nasal tone from her cold, was as calm as ever.

For some reason, Mingyue felt scared.

She nodded vigorously, all her usual arrogance gone.

Doreen Pulitzer released her, took a wet wipe from a high table by the window, and carefully wiped her hands before leaving.

Doreen Pulitzer found out that Jeff Boswell had hired Edison Duncan from the Duncan Law Firm. She made two trips to the firm, but the receptionist refused to see her each time, citing various reasons.

She threw the gifts back at her apartment and headed to Geya High School.

Instead of entering the school, she used her navigation to find a lavishly decorated internet café nearby.

At this time, most students at Geya High were immersed in their studies, but these privileged kids could skip classes and play without any worries.

Most of them would go abroad after graduation, with their families having paved the way long ago, unlike those from humble backgrounds who had to study hard for a bright future.

Some people are born with everything others spend their whole lives striving for.

Doreen Pulitzer spotted the red-branded teenager wearing full-coverage headphones, his eyes glued to the screen, his right hand clicking the mouse frantically.

"One machine? ID please." The receptionist glanced at her lazily.

Doreen Pulitzer pulled out a hundred-yuan bill and placed it on the counter, "Call Jeff Boswell for me."

The receptionist's eyes gleamed with greed and suspicion, "Who are you to him?"

Doreen Pulitzer blinked, "His great-grandmother."

Jeff Boswell was maneuvering his character, slashing and bombing, looking very impressive.

Just as he was about to throw a fire grenade and take down the opponent's castle, someone spoke.

"Little Master..."

Distracted, his hand slipped, and his character died!

"Damn it!"

Jeff Boswell slammed the mouse, "What the hell is wrong with you?!"

He stormed out of the internet café, still cursing.

"Where is she?!"

Turning around, he saw the woman standing under a tree across the alley, "Damn it! Who do you think you are, Great-Grandmother? Do you want to die?!"

Doreen Pulitzer crushed the snow under her hard leather boots and gestured, "Come here, I have something to say to you."

"You think I’ll come just because you say so?" Jeff Boswell put his hands in his pockets and raised his chin, "You’re here to plead for Dorothy Hazlitt, right? Fine, if you make Chen Munan kneel and kowtow three times, I’ll forget about that day."

Doreen Pulitzer said, "Come here."

Then, "Someone will kneel."

Jeff Boswell smirked, thinking she was coming to beg for mercy.

He lazily moved, "I'm here, now kneel—"

Before he could finish, he felt his left knee give way, and his body lost balance, falling to the ground. At the same time, his arms were forcefully twisted behind his back, forcing him to kneel in the snow like a prisoner.

Doreen Pulitzer stood behind him, holding him in place with one hand while pulling out her phone and opening the camera.

Realizing what she was doing, Jeff Boswell blushed with anger, "If you dare record this, I’ll make sure your whole family pays! Your brother will go to jail, and your entire family will—Ah!!"

Doreen Pulitzer tightened her grip, pressing down hard, and Jeff Boswell couldn't speak through the pain.

"If I were you, I'd say something nice. After all, a gentleman takes his revenge, but it's never too late. Do you really want to attract attention and have everyone see you like this?"

Jeff Boswell fell silent, biting his lip to endure the pain.

Doreen Pulitzer nodded approvingly, "Good, that's more like it."

"I won't release the video, but consider it our agreement. You drop the lawsuit, and I delete the video. And you must promise never to cause trouble for Chen Munan or Dorothy Hazlitt again. Otherwise, I have plenty of ways to deal with you."

Jeff Boswell's veins bulged in his neck, and his eyes widened. After a few seconds, the pain in his arms forced him to nod.

Doreen Pulitzer released him, dusted off her hands, and looked around.

Putting her hands in her pockets, she turned and walked deeper into the alley, completely ignoring Jeff Boswell's comical attempts to follow, teeth bared but too scared to act.

Doreen Pulitzer came out of the sanatorium and asked the driver to drive down the mountain. But in a blink of an eye, the villa was left behind.Doreen Pulitzer's mood was complex. She leaned back in her seat, her elbow resting on the window, her hand supporting her chin. From last night until now, the amount of information she had received was overwhelming. Her mother-in-law had passed away early, and Ferguson Kennedy's background was tragic—these were just rumors before, and she didn't know the details. But hearing it from the person involved, the sense of desolation in fate overwhelmed her like a tidal wave.
