Chapter 5: Chapter Five: In a sorry plight

Exclamations of admiration filled the air.

"Wow, he's so handsome!"

"Wealthy and good-looking, isn't he just like a prince from a fairy tale?"

Doreen Pulitzer stood at the very end of the left line, wearing a uniform dark blue body-hugging dress, almost blending into the crowd.

He probably didn't recognize her.

Standing next to her was Mingyue, who nudged her with an elbow. "Aren't you the number one beauty of Linquan? If you have the guts, go and win him over!"

Doreen Pulitzer watched as the man, surrounded by admirers, slowly walked through the arched entrance. The snow around was thick, but the marble path under his feet had been specially cleared.

The general manager of the Linquan branch personally held an umbrella for him, with a clearly fawning expression, yet the man barely spared him a glance, turning his head to speak casually with someone else.

Doreen Pulitzer asked, "Who is he?"

Mingyue was surprised; Doreen Pulitzer, who usually ignored most attempts at conversation, was actually interested this time?

She smiled haughtily. "He's the second son of the Han family, Ferguson Kennedy! He's the favorite among all of Old Master Han's children. You know the Han family, right? Each member is worth tens of billions!"

Snowflakes clung to her eyelashes, melting quickly from her body heat and turning into icy water that fell into her eyes. Doreen Pulitzer squinted.

The man in the center of her vision was dressed entirely in white, blending seamlessly with the snow. His face was strikingly handsome, with red lips and white teeth, a beauty that even the snow could only serve as a backdrop to.

Completely different from the black-clad figure she saw last night.

"Who is the person next to him?" Doreen Pulitzer asked.

"Edison Duncan, the youngest and most capable lawyer in H City," Mingyue said with disdain. "You really have high standards, don't you? Interested in both of them?"

Doreen Pulitzer remained silent.

Mingyue turned to look at her. "Since you love being in the spotlight, should I help you out?"

As soon as the words were spoken, Doreen Pulitzer felt a force on her waist. She stumbled backward, her limbs already stiff from standing in the cold, and before she could steady herself, she fell to the ground.

Worse still, there was a broken pipe in the nearby bushes, which hadn't been fixed due to the rush to welcome Ferguson Kennedy. Now, with Doreen Pulitzer's impact, it snapped, spraying cold water everywhere.

The orderly line immediately dispersed, everyone avoiding the cold water in the sub-zero weather. Although Doreen Pulitzer quickly got up and moved to the side, she was drenched, her thin work uniform clinging to her skin, water dripping from the folds of her clothes, making her look utterly disheveled.

This commotion naturally became the focus of everyone's attention.

The branch manager, with a dark face, ordered Brady Rutherford, "Go and check on her!"

She had caused quite a stir on her first day of the interview. If not for her abilities, she wouldn't have lasted until today.

"Doreen Pulitzer!" he hurriedly answered.

Ferguson Kennedy savored the three syllables, his peach-blossom eyes slightly upturned, his rosy lips curling faintly.

Edison Duncan, who had been on the phone, hung up and, though he hadn't heard the whole story, guessed it was about a woman.

He teased, "What do you mean? I think it would be better to send her over as a housewarming gift, rather than wait for another day."

Ferguson Kennedy shot him a glance. "Boring."
