Ariana's Pov

As I walked past, I realized Alora had been standing there the whole time, watching us and probably hearing everything. I looked at her for a second, and I could already see the questions written all over her face. “Are you…” I started, but I stopped myself. There was really nothing I could say to her about any of it. “Take care of your mother, and take care of yourself too,” I said instead, forcing a small smile. “I'll be leaving now.”

I turned and walked away before she could ask

Ariana's PovAs I walked past, I realized Alora had been standing there the whole time, watching us and probably hearing everything. I looked at her for a second, and I could already see the questions written all over her face. “Are you…” I started, but I stopped myself. There was really nothing I could say to her about any of it. “Take care of your mother, and take care of yourself too,” I said instead, forcing a small smile. “I'll be leaving now.”I turned and walked away before she could ask anything else. By the time I got outside the hospital, I tried my best not to think about what had just happened inside. Kian's words were still in my head, his mother's tears, everything about the whole situation felt like too much, and honestly, I just wanted to get somewhere I could lie down. That was all I needed right now. Just to lie down and forget about everything for a while.I stood outside waiting for a cab when someone suddenly tapped my shoulder. I turned around, already expecting

  • Off-limits: My One-Night Stepbrother    Chapter 114: So it's my fault?

Ariana's PovA few minutes later, I was ready.I grabbed my bag, headed downstairs, and found Kian already waiting outside. Neither of us said anything as we walked toward his car. He unlocked it, and I climbed into the passenger seat while he walked around to the driver's side. The engine started, and before long, we were pulling away from the mansion.Just like I'd expected…… the drive was quiet. Not comfortable quite but the sort that sat heavily between two people, as though both of them had a hundred things to say but neither wanted to be the first to say them.I turned my attention to the window, watching the familiar streets slip past one after another. After a while, I noticed him glance at me for a second before his eyes returned to the road. A few more moments passed before he finally spoke."Do you love him?"The question landed so suddenly that even after few seconds, I couldn't even process what he'd just asked.I slowly turned to look at him.His hands remained steady on

Ariana's PovAfter calling him over and over again and getting nothing but silence, I finally gave up.I looked down at the little girl sitting quietly beside Scarlett."Do you have a phone?" I asked gently. She nodded and reached into her pocket before handing it to me.I took it from her. "What's your name?""Alora," she answered softly."How old are you, Alora?""I'm thirteen."I gave her a small smile before saving my number into her phone."If anything changes or you need someone, call me, okay?"She looked at me for a second before giving a small nod. Before we left, one of the doctors came out and told Alora she could finally go in and see her mother. Relief washed over her face as she hurried after the nurse. Not long after that, Mum was done with her own appointment. The doctor prescribed a few medications, which I stopped to collect from the pharmacy before we finally headed back to the mansion.****************I stood outside Kian's bedroom door for what felt like forever.

  • Off-limits: My One-Night Stepbrother    Chapter 112: Should I call him?

Ariana's Pov"What happened to her?" I asked softly. She lowered her head, rubbing at her eyes with the back of her hand before answering."Pneumonia."The word came out in a whisper."She's had it for months now, but... these past few days the medicine doesn't seem to be working anymore. She's been in the hospital for two days."Fresh tears rolled down her cheeks as she spoke."I was with her when she suddenly said she couldn't breathe properly. I called the doctors, and they rushed in." Her voice trembled. "They told me to wait outside." She looked down at her hands. "She's in so much pain."I turned to look at Scarlet for a brief moment. The concern on her face matched exactly how I felt. When I looked back at the girl, my heart ached for her."It's okay," I said gently, reaching out and pulling her into a hug. "She's going to be okay."She didn't hug me back at first. Then, after a few seconds, I felt her arms slowly wrap around me.I stayed like that with her for a while, gently

Ariana's PovMum.I answered almost immediately."Mum, are you okay?"The moment the words left my mouth, I heard her laugh softly from the other end."You worry too much," she said, still giggling. "Of course I'm okay."I let out a small breath. "Okay.""I only called because you left the house without telling me."There was a brief pause before she continued. "I wanted you to come with me to the hospital for my check-up today because apparently your father is far too busy for me."The last part was loud enough that it was obviously meant for Dad to hear. Almost immediately, his voice came from somewhere in the background."You have to understand that the meeting is important. I'm not too busy for you, and I already told you I'd make it up to you."Mum huffed dramatically. "You heard him?"I smiled."I did.""Like I said..." she continued. "...too busy for me."I couldn't help laughing. "You two are unbelievable.""We know." She laughed too before asking, "So where are you?""I'm at

  • Off-limits: My One-Night Stepbrother    Chapter 110: Like I didn't exist

Ariana's PovKian. He was walking down the hallway toward me.For a second, my feet forgot how to move. I just stood there, my hand still resting lightly against the staircase railing as the distance between us slowly disappeared.Don't stare, Ariana. Stop staring. I practically screamed the words at myself, but my eyes refused to listen. This was the closest we'd been since I'd come back, and suddenly I became painfully aware of every step he took. When we were finally close enough to pass each other, I forced a small smile."Good morning, Kian."The words came out quiet, almost hesitant. For a split second, I waited. Waited for him to look at me, for him to say good morning back. Waited for... something.Nothing came. His eyes never left the phone in his hand. He walked right past me as though I hadn't spoken, as though I wasn't even standing there. Not a glance, not a nod. Nothing.I slowly turned to look behind me, watching him continue down the stairs without stopping. He didn't
