As soon as James walked back in, I beckoned on both him and Jessica to sit. They each pulled out a seat and sat down in front of me. I knew what I was about to say would cause raised brows and probably even raise some dust, but I needed to say it regardless.

They were my most trusted allies. There were hardly any secrets between us; therefore, I wanted them to know about this as well.

My gaze went from Jessica to James and then back to Jessica. I could sense her tension. It was as if she already had an inkling that she was not going to like what I was about to say, and she was not wrong.

I ran my hand through my long blond hair and sighed, preparing myself for the reaction I was going to get.

"Athena is my mate," I blurted out.
