Trial by fire The sun wasn't even up in the sky. when the horns screeched through the dorms. It was sharp enough to split my skull. I jolt upright, my heart hammering, sleep still clinging to my eyelids. For a second I forget where I am, then the pain of the suppressant patch comes back. Then it all crashes back into my head. Eldenridge. And an annoying, grating voice bleeds through the speakers. " Cadets,up! You've got sixty seconds before I drag you out myself," The head Alpha shouts out. Sixty seconds.of course Alphas don't need rest just commands. I jump up from by bed, still dazed from the suppressant patch burning under my arm. I dressed up in silence while the aggression from all the other alpha who didn't care who they stepped on rang through the air. Day one and I already don't like it here. By the time I stumbled groggily into the yard, my breath fogging up the air. My head still hurts from the loud horns, and I still need to sleep, this is pure torture. Kieran was already there, tall and composed with his hands behind his back. Commanding the space like it belonged to him. "You're not Alphas yet you're strays dogs and I'll see which one of you deserves to stay at Eldenridge." The head Alpha yells his voice smooth and dangerous. "That's General Nightshade weak alpha son," A voice whispered just loud enough for others to hear. "one might peg him to be a beta or even an Omega." The air around me seemed to thin, my chest tightened , heat rising under the patch on my skin. I didn't turn. And I also didn't flinch I just straightened my shoulders, pretending their words slid right off, even though they didn't. I shake their comment of my shoulders I catch Kieran looking directly at me, not mocking, not amused just watching. " We are going to be running 2 laps round the school, so Alphas get prepared." The first lap was easy, but by the second it was fire, each breath heavier than the last. One by one other Alphas start to run past me, their laughter sharp and cruel, the scent I've fought to hide all morning, threatening to let lose. I hear across the field, " come on, Nightshade, I thought generals raised good Alphas," someone jeers. I might start perfuming here, the patch feels heavier and lose under my sleeve. The sound and jeers from other Alphas finally get to me and I slip hard, into the mud, someone laughs. but Kieran doesn't move. He just stands there his eyes on me. His voice then booms from the watchtower. "Get up Nightshade Jr., if the ground wants you for itself, you better make it fight to get you." I spit out the dirt, push myself up and continue running to the finish line, my body heavy with mud. I don't stop until, I cross the finish line, covered in mud and my skin burning. As we finish up,I rush to get to the Locker room to freshen up, the locker room smells of sweat and metal and little to no pheromones. I keep my head down to get my breathing in check, my heart hasn't stopped racing since the run. The suppressant patch had already worn off from being worn too long, I peel it off slowly. For a moment, I feel relief. my faint omega scent , subtle ,light and clean escapes. An unmistakable omega scent. The kind that doesn't belong to an Alpha. I wave my hand in the air, as if that would do anything to it. That's when the door opens Kieran walks in with flanked by 3 other Alphas. Then his head turns slightly, as if he caught something in the air. His eyes find me and I freeze. " What's that hell is that...... ?" The first Alpha exclaims " Smells like, no it can't be," Another mutters.. The room goes silent and Kieran steps in. In a low, and dangerous voice he says " Everyone get out," His voice cuts through the room like a blade. I hear feets moving as the locker room emptys out. I don't move, my pulse is hammering against my throat. He is standing between me and my locker, the place I need to be. My suppressant is inside. " Your scent," Kieran says slowly, his eyes on me. " It has changed, it's different now." My throat goes dry. I stumble through my words " Or maybe your just smelling your own ego." I manage to say. He takes a step closer, I feel the space shrink between us. "Funny, I didn't see you as the kind who snoops around others business," I say in an effort to get him to drop the subject. " I didn't peg you as the kind who hides from others," he counters softly "Ronan," he heart stutters from the way he said my name. The way it falls from his lips makes my stomach twist, heat curls low in my chest. Our eyes meet, heat brews , still not anger something we are both unwilling to confront. As I grab at his shirt trying to push him back, but he doesn't budge. My hands trembles more than I want them to. "Move," I hiss at him. He leans in enough for his breath to touch my cheek. "you hide, whatever it is you're hiding," he says quietly. " but don't let me find out." and he walks out of the room. I grab my suppressant and leave the room with his threat hanging over my head. ++++++++++++++++++ I sit by the balcony, bandaging the raw skin where the suppressant patch burned through. As the campus glows with lamps and the patrol officers match around rhythmically. Then I feel a prickle long my neck I look up. Across the cross yard, on the opposite balcony, Kieran stands hands on the railing, shirtless, with his body lit from the glow in his room. I freeze I don't move, I stare back not dropping my stare. "Great, just great," I mutter to under my breath, trying to break the tension "Now the king of Eldenridge has decided to stalk me himself," I turn and head back to my room shutting the balcony door a bit harder than I mean to. A faint sound, and I see a paper sliding against the floor from under my door with the words " you hide it well, little Omega," written on them and all the blood drains down from my face, the world turns woozy for a bit Someone knows.RONAN I stepped out of the room, my heart beating faster from the thought of getting caught by Rhea. The penthouse smelled of spilled whiskey and Kieran's anger was like a physical entity with us.Kieran was still leaning against the frame in the closet, his shoulders heaving with a violence he was trying and failing to suppress. He looked like he was wrestling a demon and was barely winning. He didn't look at me, but he knew I was there. He always knew, his alpha senses were probably responding to the frantic fear I was feeling.“We can't stay in here,” he rasped, his voice sounding like he was holding back. “The scent of her….it's everywhere.” He didn't wait for an answer from me, picking me up with ease, carrying me down the hall to the smaller guest suite, it was wide and quiet. For the first time I was grateful for being here, it didn't feel like a cell but a sanctuary, once the door was locked, he leaves then appeared returning with a small box.Setting it on the Nightstand with
RONAN The rattling of the bedroom door handle was now loud against the silence in the room.I backed away slowly into the hidden closet, my heart thudding faster against ribs, until my spine hit the cold wood of the bookshelf.Kieran was farway on his way to the council, fighting for the power to keep me.The elevator to the penthouse chimed again and a voice came through. “ Ma'am the master override key,” a guard said. She wants to bypass the key. Her heels began their slow, deliberate march across the room outside the door, click, click, click. It sounded like a countdown to my end.“I know you're in there, you little whore,” she calls out, her voice echoing with a terrifying edge. I didn't think or could afford to think, a lot of things could go downhill if I'm caught.Tipping the book backwards, the space was tight, smelling of damp books, I ran inside closing it before I heard the bedroom door finally swing open.Rhea walked in like she owned the air itself. There was a camera i
RONAN The morning light poured in through the windows. After using the bathroom, I now stood by the windows, my arm wrapped tightly around my chest, as I tried to ignore the lingering warmth of his skin pressed against mine through the night. Then his scent filled my skin, while I leaned my forehead against the cool glass, my heartbeat fast at the reality of my betrayal to myself, I couldn’t hold on for Ethan. I had to rub my body into his like some dog in heat.“Rhea's motion for a search warrant is going to be approved soon.” Dax's voice crackled, sounding distant and pained through the speakers. “The council isn't holding back anymore, the search team is on their way, to inspect the penthouse for a mistress, as per the Luna's safety is compromised, you need to get to the council office, asap.”I felt the blood drain from my face, a mistress was the technical term for me.Kieran stepped into my line of vision, already putting on his uniform. His black pants were stiff and imposing
KIERAN I leaned over him and peppered his face with soft kisses. By the goddess he was beautiful. I touched his cheek and felt… It couldn’t be. It was too soon. I had my head in the damn clouds. My back hit the bed as he climbed on me, and he deepened the kiss and pushed his tongue into my mouth. I kissed him back hungrily and started unbuttoning his pants.I lifted my hands, and pulled his tee over his head.I loved the rasp of his breath against my skin. And his openmouthed kisses. I tilted my head to give him more access. He stayed wrapped around me and focused on driving me fucking crazy with his sensual whimpers and kisses. His lips against my neck, his hand roaming my chest. His toich was light as a feather but it spread fire through my skin, he nuzzled into me, in a tangle of limbs.I focused on Ronan and rolled us over till I was on him, peppering kisses down his chest until he was so close to me until I could suck him into my mouth. He squirmed and made a sexy sound. At tha
KIERAN The high siren scream of the siren was the only thing louder than Rhea's voice. I didn't wait for her to drop the light and set the place ablaze. Before she could even notice my movement, I was across hallway in front of her. My hand clamped over hers, my fingers wrapped around her fist I crushed the lighter into her palm till the plastic cracked and bit into her skin. “You think burning who ever you suspect it going to get you closer to me?” I hissed after her, my face inches from hers.My Alpha scents exploded, not the soft one that always seemed to follow Ronan, but the sulfur that choked my enemies to death and comes with the promise of retribution.“You just inching closer and closer to the edge of your sanity, stop looking for excuses to justify your inability to make me love you this is not love this is obsession and you don't even know it is that.” I twisted her arm behind her back, as I propelled her forward. “ Kieran! Let me go!” She trashed , her eyes widened with
KIERAN I stared at the text on my screen, my knuckles turning white as I gripped the device. “The body in the hospital or the Omega you keep hidden….which one do you love more?”Rhea was a viper, but she was a blind one, taunting me about a string of mistresses she thought I kept. She had no idea it was Ethan, a friend of ours she was trying to execute.“Kieran?” Ronan's voice a little rasp, pulling me away from my thoughts. He was still holding the jasmine sweet, his eyes fixed on the television screen where Ethan's face was just displayed. “The feed,” he whispered, his eyes wide and wild. “Turn it back on, let me see him.” I didn't answer.I need him to believe I was heartless, I need him to eat. “ The feed doesn't come on until the bowl is empty, Ronan.” I said, my voice as cold as ice.I signaled at the doorway and Dax and Finn stepped inside the room, “status?” I asked, not looking at them. “Rhea is pushing the Council for the full sweep of the Medical Wing,” Dax reported, his
KieranThe room was dark as I entered, except the distant echo of celebration from the arena and fields, I lay on my back exhausted from all the mental and physical strain of the trials. As I stared at the ceilings, trying to catch some rest but sleep was far from my mind at the time, it wasn't eve
KIERAN As we started the match, the sun came down to an orange glow, it shone on the stone walls, and made the banner and flags come alive. The fire torches burned low and steady, the fire looking like gold and made everything feel older. At the centre the war stimulation table waited. It wasn't a
RONANThe AURA DOMINANCE CHALLENGEThis is the last challenge, winning the last one was to exhilarating, I have been proving to myself that Omegas are not the weakest link.I could feel the crowds excitement. The stone has already been brought up in a perfect circle, ancient and smooth, with runes
RONANThe whispers rolled through the air, “ they're tied, wonder what the council will do about it.”Two victories each for them, an outcome no one expected and everyone fears. I stand on stage as pressure settles into my bones, heavy and undeniable. My suppressants pulse, not pain yet but a warni
