EVANDER'S POV

Night had fallen over the capital, but repair crews were still working on the sections of the palace damaged during Odan's attack. I was heading back to my quarters when I decided to check on Oliver.

As I approached his room, his parents stepped out into the corridor. They looked tired, but his mother smiled when she saw me.

"General!" she said, taking my hand. "Thank you for bringing our son home. I don't know what we would have done if we'd lost him."

Oliver's father bowed his h

THEODORE'S POVI didn't wait for him to answer. I turned and stormed down the corridor, needing to put as much distance between us as possible. My heart was still racing, and I could feel the anger building inside me all over again."Theodore, wait!"I ignored him and kept walking, but his footsteps grew louder behind me. Before I could get any farther, his hand closed around my arm.I spun around and jerked away from him. "Don't touch me!""Can you just listen to me for once?" he demanded, his frustration evident. "What must I do to make you forgive me? Tell me what you want, Theodore. I'll do it.""Nothing!" I snapped. "I don't want anything from you. Just stay away from me!"I turned away, refusing to give him another opportunity to argue with me. I could still hear him behind me, but I didn't stop. I couldn't. If I stayed there any longer, I knew we'd only end up saying things neither of us could take back. And I was already struggling to deal with what had happened. My fingers br

EVANDER'S POV "I was concerned about you," I repeated, stepping closer. "Theodore, please listen—" "Don't!" He raised a hand, stopping me. "I don't want another excuse, Evander. Just stop apologizing because I'm tired of hearing it!" "I have every reason to be cautious after what happened to you. I'm only trying to protect you." "Protect me from what? Walking around my own home?" He laughed bitterly. "You know what? Just leave me alone!" "Theodore—" "We have a baby together, so what?!" he shouted, his voice echoing through the corridor. "That's all we have, Evander! Nothing else! So stop acting like we're suddenly something more!" I stared at him, stunned by how easily he'd dismissed everything between us. "Go back to the way you treated me before all this happened!" he continued. "Pretend I don't exist! You were very good at that before, weren't you?" His words hurt more than I wanted to admit, and I felt my own temper rising. "I never pretended you didn't exist, T

"How is Oliver doing?""Much better," his mother replied. "His heat is finally coming down. There are still occasional spikes, but the doctors believe it should be over by tomorrow.""That's good news. Has he been able to rest?""Yes, he's sleeping now. Lauren has been taking good care of him."I nodded, relieved to hear that Oliver was recovering."Let him know I came by. I'll visit when he'

  • Omega Hunted    A private matter

"Are you suggesting I should seek my son's permission before making decisions concerning the royal family?" "I'm suggesting that you speak to him." The King stared at me for a moment before letting out a short laugh. "You've become rather sentimental since bringing him home." "Perhaps, Your Majesty. But Theodore nearly died, and he's still recovering from what happened in that laboratory. He needs time." "Time for what? To invent another reason to defy me?" "Time to recover. Time to spend with his son. And time to decide whether he's ready to marry me." Madina picked up another report, apparently considering the conversation finished. "The wedding will proceed as announced. Theodore will attend, and you will fulfill your duties. Is there anything else?" I remained standing. "Yes, Your Majesty." He looked up, visibly irritated. "Then speak." "I think you should reconsider how you've been treating Theodore and Queen Elena." His eyes narrowed. "Be careful, General." "I mea

  • Omega Hunted    Being told what to do

EVANDER'S POVThe nursery door slid shut behind me, and I headed toward the throne room. I had barely made it halfway down the corridor when I found myself thinking about Theodore again. He hadn't taken the news of our wedding well, and I couldn't blame him. After everything Morton had put him through, the last thing he needed was another person making decisions about his life. But what worried me most was how quiet he'd become toward the end of our conversation. Theodore had always been stubborn, and I knew that look well enough to recognize when he was planning something. If he decided to leave the palace, I doubted the guards would be able to stop him. He knew the security arrangements almost as well as I did, and there were enough private transport routes around the capital for him to disappear before anyone noticed.I stopped walking and took out my comm-link."Moris, come in.""General?" His voice came through almost immediately. "Is something wrong with the perimeter?""No. I n

  • Omega Hunted    A name for the baby

THEODORE'S POVI stared down at him.Evander, the great General, the man my father had always held up as proof of everything I wasn't, was on his knees on my floor, holding the hem of my robe like a child.I had imagined this a thousand times as a boy. I had imagined him broken, humbled, begging. It didn't feel the way I thought it would."Get up," I said."Theodore...""Get up, Evander."He rose slowly, and he didn't look away. His eyes were red. I looked away first."There's something you should know," I said. "My father called me to the throne room this morning. He told me that the moment you return, preparations for our wedding begin. To make the child legal and recognised."Evander went very still."I didn't know," he said hoarsely. "I swear it.""I know you didn't." I turned toward the window so he couldn't see my face. "Nobody asked me either."Neither of us spoke. The baby shifted in the crib and let out a small, sleepy sound."May I?" Evander asked quietly.I turned. He was l
