12. Cassidy

Grandmother Serenity gave me the same thing that Abigail drank: drinking felt refreshing, but the bones in my body felt like hot water.

I suddenly felt tired, and as I closed my eyes to rest, my dreams were out of the ordinary.

I woke up in a beautiful black garden.

Everything was covered with a white light that I could distinguish what it was.

The place felt familiar; it felt like I was home, but I had never been there. Stretching myself, I realized I didn’t have the cast or the neck brace.

“I’m free from those things, finally,”

I said to myself as I saw I was entirely alone until I heard a woman speak, “Here you are.”

I turn to see a woman that looked similar to me, she was a beautiful tan woman with wavy black hair instead of my big blonde afro hair, “who are you?”

I asked her in honesty, but she stopped.

There was a bright light illuminating where I was sitting down.

The woman looked sad at the current situation.

As she tried to get closer, she couldn’t when she saw how stuck she was.

The woman said.

“If I could only reach you, but Mother refuses to give you up to me. Perhaps it will happen when your time is near. Daughter, don’t fear on your journey. Your wolf will come to you. However, you cannot fear, for you are not truly alone, just as you haven’t been alone through all this. Follow the guidance of those who walk amongst you. I can’t talk to you like a normal person, but I can give you riddles to solve as you grow. Never forget you come from a strong family, Cassidy. We love you.”

She says as time runs out. When she said she loved me, I asked.

“Love me? Why? Who are you?”

I asked her, remembering I had asked the same thing before, but why was it always something I couldn’t remember?

“Just enjoy this moment, for when you return, you won’t be able to remember well of me, not until your wolf wakes up.”

She adds when a man that looked like an Alpha stands by her side, holding her by her shoulder he looked proud to be next to her, “we will always guide you, go back in peace,” he added like the woman who held tight to him.

I closed my eyes only to open the back to see I was back in the room with Carter, and the elderly lady, she was sitting in the wheelchair she had taken me in with a big smile on her face.

She seemed to know more than she was leading on.

I wanted to know, but I stopped when the smell of recap with basil had taken my senses.

After a couple of seconds of fearfully trying to get up from the bed, I looked outside through the window to see the wolves were playing with Benjamin, “where is that smell coming from?”

I asked the elderly woman in the wheelchair while watching what was outside, “seems you will have a much more important day than I had anticipated,” she replied.

As I looked back at her, she had started to move and was almost out of the room when I heard the voice of Carter.

He sounded so attractive.

Was it because I was in pain before that I didn’t pay much attention?

Getting out of my bed, I walked to the door where he was walking.

Meeting in the doorway, we both say, “mate.”

He was holding a box that was not wrapped, but it was clear he had been trying to cover it when it fell to the ground. I had a small box get out of it, but my attention was focused on Carter.

We were mates, two omega mates.

“Thank you, goddess. I can’t believe I have been blessed with such a cute mate,” he says, and I smile. He was kind-hearted to me, but my hands moved on their own to his.

When I finally touched his hands, I felt the electrical current that made him growl in a possessive nature, “mine!”

He shouted.

I didn’t want to kiss him.

I didn’t want to do what usual mates would do because I wanted to make these memories perfect for us.

I was already with him; that was all that mattered for now, and I only hoped he understood that I wanted us to happen, but when I felt comfortable.

Carter took me in a big hug, and as he hugged me, he squeezed our hug a bit.

My hands were wrapped around his neck, and it felt like I was home.

“I can't tell you how blessed I feel to know I’m with someone completely the opposite from my now ex-mate. Please accept me. I know I haven’t been that persuasive, but I’m a much better person than my stupid cute wheelchair crush from this morning.”

Carter told me while we hugged.

He said it in a trembling voice, and I didn’t understand why he would say that to me, but when I moved to look into his blue eyes, I asked, “I’m your second chance, too?”

He smiled at my question while placing his lips on my forehead.

He said, “I accepted the rejection of a horrible choice and got a wonderful second chance, that I will prove for the rest of my life that I am worth being yours.”

I felt his heart in each word he told me.

He was so much more than Benjamin could dream of comparing himself to.

It made me feel proud to have accepted his rejection just as much as Carter, yet I wondered who his ex and pack were now that I know he is my fated mate.

“How about we take things slow? We live together so that we can go one step at a time. It will not be easy either cause of the mate bond, but also of other things.”

He adds his face has a happy expression on it, but I can see the fear in his eyes, “What are you afraid of?”

I asked, wanting to make her think nothing horrible would happen.

He replied, a bit embarrassed, “I can’t seem to feel a change that needed to happen, and I don’t want to have you reject me for it.”

I looked at him and then realized I didn’t feel any different.

Where is my wolf?

Panic sets in, and I return, “I’m sorry, but I understand what you mean. Please don’t reject me either,” I pleaded, scared out of my mind.

What was going on? Where are we supposed to have our wolves?

Wait, maybe it wasn’t the time of the day; I’m my birthday.

I moved back to my room to see if there was a clock, but I didn’t see anything until I saw a clock on the wall that had stopped.

Looking back, I asked shyly, “Do you know what time it is?” I asked timidly.

When I saw him take his cell phone out, I heard him say, “It’s past two in the evening,” my eyes grew as my time had passed.

I was born at eleven in the morning, and I have no wolf.

What did the water that the old lady gave me do something?

I had to find out.

For all I know, this was a secondary effect of the current situation.

Walking to Carter, he flinched.

“I’m not going to harm you. I want to come clean that my birthday was at eleven. I don’t think I have a wolf, but I’m a good omega. I can build, fix, and add electrical appliances to any construction. I can sort of cook, but it’s not my strong suit, and even if I’m not that grand at it, I can try to practice more on that. Please don’t reject me.”

I kept pleading when he took my hand in his, raising it to his lips and kissing them tenderly, “I would never reject you for not having a wolf. You are magnificent just the way you are,” he replied with the most romantic tone.

I felt my cheeks burn, and I wanted to test the waters so much that I couldn’t hold myself back as I kissed him tenderly.

That’s when the sealing started to fall on us both as we kissed.

I felt drops of water on my shoulder.

Carter pulled me back to the living room, where it was dry, then said, “The King and Queens representative has summoned us.”

I looked back at him, scared of what would happen but happy to know he would accept me.
