7. Carter & Wanda

This can’t be happening to me.

It wasn’t supposed to be like this.

I was allowed to have my mate.

Everyone is, once mate was the most precious person in the world, they are half of your heart.

But my choice was taken days ago.

Tonight, we were all celebrating Vanessa’s birthday, and it was just around the time to have her meet her wolf.

I was done with this party long before it even started.

Every guy was waiting on any girl to get loose, and here I was, one of the guys, but I didn’t want the same as they did.

I’m a man, but I have a freaking heart too. What kind of guy looks forward to their choices being taken away?

Just cause I swing a third leg? What a joke. I’m not made of stone.

The music started to tone down as Vanessa began to walk around sniffing, and she shouted to them to tone it down—a strong desire formed in me.

I couldn’t pinpoint what it was, but I thought I wouldn’t like it.

Vanessa had stopped before me and started to laugh hysterically.

Goddess, please don’t pull this prank on me.

I stayed quiet, praying internally this was just a prank, that it was a cruel joke.

Vanessa did the worst things as I grew up in her pack, but this was just too cruel.

Vanessa touched my hand, and I felt a spark run up my hand, “no,” I said out loud, but I wasn’t fast enough to reject her how I wanted to.

Why moon goodness?

Wasn’t it enough that I don’t have the rights to where I live, but now not even a mate to give all I have, to love the way she deserved, because I am never going to fucking like this girl.

I don’t care if she is Luna.

She didn’t stop laughing at our mate bond.

Instead, she rehearsed her rejection in front of everyone.

“I, Future Luna Vanessa Victor, reject you, Omega Carter Charleston, as my mate and Future Alpha to my pack!”

The entire room that was laughing with her went silent.

I bit my cheek and took a deep breath to accept this rejection.

My heart felt heavy, and it hurt to breathe, but I knew this was the right choice

“Seems you still have no heart, Vanessa, but thank you. For I, Omega Carter Charleston, accept your rejection, Future Luna Vanessa Victor. Happy fuck your birthday.”

I couldn’t hold myself back.

I spit at her, her bright smile went into a frown, and as I turned to leave her to enjoy the rest of her fucking birthday, tears went down my cheek.

I have had enough.

Walking to the laundry, Holly stops me.

“Hey, I, well, we all kinda off.”

She tried to talk about what just happened, but I placed my hands on her shoulders, then moved her to hug me.

“I just want to be left alone for a while, she made her point clear, but I have feelings that I need to sort out, please.”

I almost chocked on my last words, my tears where now running down my face, why in the fucking hell did I get this cruel fate?

“Carter, you crying? Oh, my goddess, I’m going to kill this bitch. Who the hell does she think she is? She is not even Luna yet! Carter, you are too good for her. Look at it as dodging a silver bullet! If you want space, then I’ll do just that. For a couple of hours, I’m getting some food and stuff. You are not staying alone, got it?”

I shook my head no.

Holly has no idea I live behind the machines in the laundry room, and I’m not about to show her how fake our Alpha is yet.

“How about instead we go camping out? I’m tired of staying here,” she beamed.

Holly loved the outdoors just as much as I did.

I knew she would be happy to go out with me, but to my disappointment, we got a mind link seconds after agreeing.

‘Carter, my office, now.’

It came through for Holly, too, as she groaned after she got the same message.

We walked back to the Alpha office.

When we arrived, Vanessa was sitting next to him with tears in her eyes, and her face had a clear handprint that had recently smacked on her cheek.

I had zero feelings of caring about what had happened, but I wouldn’t be worse than her.

That’s not who I am.

Closing the door, the Alpha speaks.

“We are leaving today to the King and Queen of werewolves. We need to solve the rogue problem that keeps growing as days pass. I heard what Vanessa did, but I’m shocked that after I said you had no choice in rejecting her, you still did it anyway.”

Alpha Vincent said I didn’t care anymore what he liked.

He didn’t accept I had that choice.

“Alpha, you told me what to do, but I told you I had a choice. Why is it hard to accept my choices? She rejected me. First, I simply gave her what she fucking wanted, and I came out looking like the real dick of this situation. Are you kidding me?”

He growled at how I expressed myself when Vanessa said.

“Daddy, I don’t want that omega. Look how mean he is to me,” she started to fake cry her way into getting rid of me even further than she already did.

I was done.

I had zero tolerance for this kind of manipulation.

The Alpha roared at me.

Having enough of this, I started turning the doorknob and then opened the door, leaving him talking to Holly and Vanessa.

‘Carter, get back here! I’m not finished talking to you!’

I didn’t care what else he wanted to say.

I blocked him from my mind. He tried to bully me when I had done nothing wrong.

Stepping outside of the pack house, there was a brown wolf.

She was pretty, from what I could see.

She looked like she was waiting for someone.

Walking closer to her, she stayed still.

How wired, it’s like she knew who I was, being now right in front of her, I said, “Hello.”

She wagged her tail, and then in my head, I heard.

‘Hello, Carter! I’m Wanda!’

My eyes grew wide, and I took some steps back.

“What the fuck, did you just link me? But how? You are a wolf!”

I shouted, taken off guard from what was going on.

Her tail kept moving happily as she moved her front paws in excitement.

‘I won’t bite you, my uh, oh no, I can’t say, I mean, hello! I won’t bite!’

She tried to save what she was about to say, but to my disappointment, we heard a snap behind me.

Looking back, it was the Alpha who punched me in the face, leaving me out cold.

I was opening my eyes.

I had no idea where I was.

The freaking place I woke up to was closed all over, then I jumped from where I was lying only to hit the top of the back trunk.

‘Really, Alpha!’

I linked him.

He had me blocked.

Now I was seething.

He knocked me out to get in on the back of a trunk!

I started to stretch to recover my strength.

I was still wearing my long skinny jeans and a gray shirt with my winter coat.

I was angry that my shirt got stained, but after correcting my nose, I stained the carpet of this trunk instead.

Breathing out, the damn vehicle stopped, I moved to get ready to bounce out of the damn truck, and the moment the trunk opened, I jumped out to hit Jonah.

I had made us both fall backward on Jona’s back, “why did you go on to do that!”

He shouted, annoyed at what I had just done.

If only he knew the crap I had to endure after that humiliation of a future Luna.

“Listen, if I knew it was you, I wouldn’t have jumped myself out like an asshole there, first,” he quickly changed from annoyed to laughing at my lame joke.

Someone took me by my jacket and then pulled me up.

When I looked behind me, I saw it was Alpha Vincent.

He was more than furious from the looks of his forehead veins that were about to pop from his forehead.

“Don’t even dare to run. We just arrived at the Moon Kingdom. You are to behave by my side, Carter; do not make me end your life like your parents.”

He threatened me, but I didn’t understand what he had meant.

“End me like you did to my parents?”

I repeated, and when he dropped me, he punched me in the gut.

Bending over, he shouts.

“Get up and follow. We are being escorted to our rooms.”

Alpha Vincent said as I tried to get up to walk behind them slowly.

I’m holding my guts in.

‘Hey you!’

I heard the same voice as before.

‘How can you talk to me?’

I asked her again, ‘What, oh!’ this time, she replied with a weird question.

‘Flowers are romantic! Start by giving her flowers?’

I stopped for a second as my stomach hurt.

‘Flowers can’t solve all problems, and to whom I rejected my mate tonight!’

I tell this wolf, who said her name was Wanda, and now appears next to me to growl at me.

Her mind links me again.

‘But they’re a great start, you ice-hearted bone human! No, not that she-wolf!’ She replied to me, but to whom were the flowers for?
