43. An Injury

I stood in the kitchen, dicing vegetables. My mind was far away as I was deeply lost in thoughts. The past week has been an extremely busy one, with people moving in and out of the house. The security around the perimeter has been tightened, amongst many other changes.

Gwaine and I hardly spend a lot of time together these days, save for when we have our piano lessons. It’s been a week since the last time we shared a bed.

Thinking about those lessons, I seem to look forward to them, counting down to the time because that was the only time I saw him. He was absent most of the day, skipping meals and reappearing at night for our lessons. It seemed to be the only thing that brought him back home.

I wondered if he was really okay as he was under a lot of stress. I couldn’t ask him how he was faring because the last time I did, he said he was fine. I could tell from the way he avoided my gaze that he was far from that.
