52. Realization

Gwaine’s POV

The sound of approaching footsteps forced my eyes open and I jerked out of bed, already on alert as I scanned the room in search of anything threatening. It was dark and normally, my eyes adjusted to the darkness just fine but now, everything seemed blur.

I could hardly make out anything in the room, save for the window in a corner with a bit of light pouring into the room. I couldn’t see anything beyond the window.

I stretched my hand to turn on the light but realized that for some reason, the electricity had been cut off. I sighed as I forced myself out of bed, while simultaneously asking Vilkus to take control so I could use his wolf senses.

A few shapes in the room began to make sense after Vilkus took over and just when I was starting to adjust to the darkness, I heard footsteps approaching in the dark and I squinted to see who it was but It was a distance away so I couldn’t make out whoever it was.

“Catherine?” I called out, wondering if the steps belonged to her.
