MARCO
My jaw dropped when I saw Gianna. She was a beautiful female on a normal day, but now she seemed to glow even more? How was that possible? I thought she was being held by rogues.
She was holding hands with the Alpha of Blood moon pack, one of my biggest rivals. How dare she touch another male in my presence? Helena gasped beside me and that was when I knew she had also seen her sister. It had been weeks since the rogue kidnapping had happened.
“What is she doing here? I thought she was dead!” Helena screeched in that annoying voice of hers and caught the attention of several people.
Gianna turned towards our direction, but made no indication that she had seen me. She had a calm expression on her face and refused to acknowledge my existence. That made me see red. Did she forget that she was my mate?
I ran in her direction before I composed myself enough to slow down and walk gently. When I reached her, she didn’t even look bothered. She didn’t care that I just caught her in the arms of another male.
“So you’re okay and you didn’t care to inform me?” I asked as I clenched my fists, while trying to hold back my anger.
I didn’t want to cause a scene in front of so many people that were in attendance at the event. Instead of being remorseful, her calm expression changed to one of irritation.
“You made it quite clear that you do not want me in your life. You rejected me, remember? And you left me for dead.”
“That’s not what happened.” I chuckled and tried to touch her, but she stepped back, and stared at my hand like I was carrying a contagious disease.
“That is exactly what happened. I was in danger, and I called you for help. Instead, you rejected me. You didn’t even wait to make sure I’m safe first. You left my fate in the hands of rogues, and now you want to pretend like you care?” She scoffed.
“I tried to look for you, Gianna. After the call, I realised that I was a bit harsh and tried to call back, but got no response. I also tried to get Helena to locate where they held the both of you, but she had no idea because she had been blindfolded while leaving in order to conceal the rogue’s location.” I tried to plead with her, but she just shook her head, and turned away from me.
“Sister! Oh, I’m so happy you’re alive.” Helena said as she joined us.
She moved close to Gianna, and tried to hug her, but Gianna held up her hand.
“Don’t you dare come close to me. I guess it’s true that birds of a feather flock together. The two of you are proof of that. If you truly cared about me, Helena, you would have pleaded with your parents to save me. But you were happy to leave me behind, and didn’t even look back once.”
“Oh come on. Don’t overreact. What happened was not my fault. And it’s because of this nasty attitude of yours, that’s why no one loves you. Your mate even rejected you.” Helena said and began to laugh.
Why was she trying to antagonise Gianna even more? Though the situation was a bit confusing. Why was Helena released so quickly and Gianna was left behind? The whole situation with the rogues was a bit suspicious, but I didn’t have the time to dwell on it. It was time for the gala, which was a vital part of this gathering.
Music began to play, and Alpha Vincenzo turned towards Gianna before I could speak.
“My darling, Gianna, as the host Alpha, the first dance belongs to me. So, would you do me the honour of being my partner?” He asked her with a charming smile.
I expected Gianna to turn him down. We may have our issues, but she was still mine. Instead, she smiled back at him, and took his hand. We all watched in silence as they both danced under the spotlight. Gianna was the main focus. Her gown glittered, her smile was bright, and a lot of males were in awe of her beauty.
“Who is the beautiful female dancing with Alpha Vincenzo?”
“She looks so ethereal.”
“I wonder why the Alpha hasn’t formally introduced her to the rest of us. Maybe he wants to keep her to himself.
Almost everyone present was curious about Gianna’s identity, and that made her the centre of attention.
Helena’s face was red with jealousy, and she tried to be the center of attention by forcing me to dance with her. But I only agreed to dance with her so I could get close to Gianna. I couldn’t take my eyes off Gianna throughout the dance, so as soon as she moved to the bar with the Blood moon pack Alpha, I stopped dancing with Helena.
“Why won’t you take your eyes off her? I’m more beautiful than she is.” Helena whined, and when she saw that I still wasn’t paying her attention, she marched towards Gianna.
“You thief!”
Everyone in the vicinity turned towards Helena because of her loud voice.
“The last time we went on a picnic, you stole my expensive diamond necklace. Did you really think I wouldn’t find out about it?”
“What on Earth are you talking about, Helena?” Gianna asked with a bored expression.
She lived with Helena for years, so by now, she was already used to Helena’s theatrics.
“Don’t bother trying to deny it, you tramp! You sold it, and that’s how you got money to give yourself a makeover. All of this just to get close to Alpha Vincenzo. How shameless! How else would you possibly have gotten an invite to such a prestigious gathering?”
As soon as Helena finished speaking, people began whispering. Gossip always spreads like wildfire.
“Did she really do that?”
“It might be true. I’ve never seen her at any of the previous meetings.”
“Who is she? Alpha Vincenzo never formally introduced her.”
“She must truly be shameless if she actually stole in order to gain access to this event.”
Helena smirked as she saw that her accusations were being accepted by the crowd
NALIA’S POVKalen returned much later to give me breakfast and was livid when he saw my untouched dinner tray. What did he expect? I told him that I wouldn’t eat it.“I told you to eat.” He growled angrily. My head was turned away from the front of the cell and that was the direction he was standing so I couldn’t see him.“And I told you that I wouldn’t eat it. I’m not hungry.” I simply replied to him.We continued like this for a few days. He would get me food and I would refuse it. I could feel myself slipping away but I just couldn’t bring myself to care, death seemed like a better option than the reality of my life right now. My wolf was weakened and when I woke up one day in human form, I knew that I was at my breaking point. My body was too weak to hold on to wolf form and without the protective fur, I was curled up on the bare ground half frozen to death.I didn’t even bother rubbing my hands together to create heat, what was the point? It seems the cold would kill me first bef
NALIA’S POVI don’t know how long I just lay on all fours with my head on my front paws staring at nothing. My wolf’s intuition let me know it was dark outside now even though there were no windows in my cell for me to tell for sure.“Time for dinner, I brought you something to eat.” Kalen said as he walked outside my cell with a tray in his hand.He smelled clean, freshly showered.“Is that supposed to appease me? I’m surprised you even remember I exist, let alone that I have needs like hunger that need to be sated. You’ve been ignoring me for who knows how long. Not like I have a clock down here.” I said to him through mind link.I couldn’t speak since I was still in wolf form, and I didn’t move from my position on the floor and I had no plans of shifting to human form. I wasn’t remaining in wolf form to spite him, I just didn’t have the energy to do more than what I was doing now which is laying down and staring into space. I was emotionally and physically drained. Not even the sce
NALIA’S POV I was surprised when he finally spoke to me.“Are you ready to take back your decision to stay in the cell? Will you stop asking me ridiculous questions and just accept your new fate with me?” He asked. He wasn’t even interested in all the things I just said. I could feel his emotion even though it wasn’t so strong. He didn’t care about any one or anything else despite all I said, he only cared if I was ready to return to him and be his on his own terms, a warm body to fuck, not a partner. He was too focused on his own agenda.“Are you ready to treat me properly?” I asked him without replying to his question.“That is not the reply to my question.” He said.“You always want me to reply to you but you never want to reply to me, Kalen. I know what a mate bond is supposed to be like, I’ve seen so many mated couples, watched how they interact, what we have is a sham compared to the real thing. And you’re not willing to even make a compromise. Even Enzo that I was with just br
NALIA’S POVI was terrified, but not because I was locked up in a damp dungeon but because I knew Kalen was going to direct his anger somewhere else. He might decide to plan some kind of attack against my pack because of my decision to not be his pet. I had no idea if he truly had an army of rogues, and if it was even possible to command rogues, but with how easy he took me from a well guarded pack, I wasn’t willing to take chances. I tried to talk to him through our mate bond countless times but he refused to reply to me. I tried to break down the bars of the cell but it was fortified with silver which I hadn’t noticed before but shouldn’t be surprising since these dungeon cells were made to hold violent criminals. I tried to find another means of escape to at least try and warn my pack about Kalen, but it was futile. My pack could fight back in the event of a battle, but their great disadvantage was not having knowledge of Kalen. It was all my fault. I howled in sorrow but I doubt t
ENZO’s POVWe had a formal pack gathering to inform everyone else in the pack of the incident, and the plan going forward. Some of the warriors wanted to keep it a secret from the pack until we found Nalia, in order to avoid mass panic, but to me that wasn’t wise. It was better to have the information out so everyone could be more cautious. Though I doubt whoever infiltrated the pack would try again so soon, but better to be safer than sorry. More strict security measures were being put in place, more patrolling warriors, and curfew. No more large gatherings for now that an enemy could use as a distraction, and anyone that sees anything suspicious or out of the ordinary had to report immediately. We formed a search party to start tracking down Nalia, just like we did when Gianna and Bryant had been missing. But this search would be harder because, first of all, we had no clue who took Nalia or why. Without motives, it would be hard to pinpoint an estimated best location to start from.
NALIA’S POVHe dumped me in one of the cells. My night vision adjusted to the darkness in this underground dungeon, so I could see him. He just stood there and stared at me for several seconds, and a tiny part of me hoped he would see reason and let me out so we could talk. Instead, he just turned around and left me here without a word. What wrong did I do to be burdened with these types of mates? Enzo is nice and all, but he spent so long denying me. If he hadn’t, then we’d already be officially mated and Kalen wouldn’t have come into my life. It was hard not to be resentful in this condition. Now I had a crazy, cruel mate that wanted me to never question him.“Hey, asshole! At least get me some clothes, it’s freezing in here.” I yelled at thin air.I got no response even after repeating the same thing in my mind. I could now feel his presence mentally so he definitely heard me, or at least felt my emotions, and chose not to respond. So much for a mated bond mind link. I couldn’t eve
