Ashton’s POV

I moved through the hall toward Brenda’s room because something about her had not felt right.

My feet were already hurting. Each step sent a dull ache up to my knees and my chest was tight from not breathing deep enough. I pressed my hand to the cold stone wall and stopped for one breath, then another. I could not stop. Not until I saw her.

The palace was too quiet. Tents were coming down outside. Men were packing. But inside it felt like the air had been pulled out.

  • Omega of Two Packs   Before the Door

Ashton’s POVMy breath caught because I could not believe my eyes. Brenda, Lord Merrick, Lady Mirelle and an old Councilman were standing before me in this small cottage, and the air went out of the room. Brenda smiled. It was not a kind smile. It was the smile of someone who had been waiting a very long time to watch something burn.Lady Mirelle looked pleased, her head tilted like she was admiring a painting she had commissioned herself. They walked toward me, their boots loud on the wooden floor, each step echoing. Brenda looked at Mara first. “Well done, Mara,” she said. “You have done well.” My head snapped toward Mara. “Mara.... you!!! What have you done,” I said. The words tore out of me, raw and broken. “I trusted you. I trusted you with my life.” Mara did not meet my eyes. She stared at the floor like she could disappear into it, like if she looked down long enough the ground would open and take her. “Cat cut your tongue, huh, little omega,” Lady Mirelle said. Her

  • Omega of Two Packs   The Sun Marked

Ashton’s POVThe healer held my legs steady because I no longer had the strength to do it myself.“Push,” he said. His voice did not shake, but his eyes did. “You have to push now.” The pain was in my waist and in my opening and in every place between. It was tearing me open and sewing me back wrong. I was weak. My arms trembled. My vision was gray at the edges and closing in. I could feel my heart beating too fast and too thin, like it was running out of blood to move. “Push,” Mara said at my head. Her fingers were crushing mine. “You are almost there. I can see him. Push, Ashton.” Tears cut down my face because I did not know if I had anything left. My body was empty. The contractions were coming faster and there was no space between them to breathe. The healer leaned over me and pressed his palm to my stomach. Heat moved through me that was not mine. “He is taking too much,” the healer said. “He is drawing you dry. If you do not push now, there will be nothing left of yo

  • Omega of Two Packs   Gold and Snow

Ashton’s POVThe pain pulled me under and then threw me back up again, and when I opened my eyes the gold was coming out of me. It was spilling from my stomach in slow, bright lines, cutting through the blood I was lying in. The contractions were coming faster now, and each one made the light burn brighter, like my body was trying to tear itself open from the inside. No. Xander could not find me like this. No one could find me like this. I forced myself up from the floor. My arms shook and my legs would not hold me at first, but I dragged myself toward Brenda’s wardrobe because if I left a trail of blood they would follow it straight to me.My bloody hands smeared against the wall and left prints. I reached the wardrobe and tore my tunic down the front, ripped the stained part out, and let it fall. I pulled one of Brenda’s red cloaks from the hook and wrapped it around myself. It was too big and it smelled like her, but it covered the blood.I grabbed other clothes from the

  • Omega of Two Packs   The Smell of Blood

Xander’s POVNothing is more important to me right now than saving Ashton and my baby. I was running through the palace with Zeth beside me, and behind us the entire war band moved like a storm breaking through stone.Doors were being kicked in one after another. Every room we entered was empty. The beds were cold, the corridors were hollow, and the smell of smoke and iron from the courtyard still clung to the back of my throat. “Can you pick up his scent,” Zeth asked me between breaths, his voice low but urgent. I hesitated because I did not want to admit it out loud. “No,” I said. “The smell of blood is all over the place.” It was true. Men were bleeding in the halls from the fight, and healers were dragging the wounded past us on stretchers. Underneath all of that was something else, something copper and wrong that made my stomach turn and my wolf rise without permission. We kept moving deeper into the palace, past the war room where we had argued, past the armory. My che

Not until I saw her. The palace was too quiet. Tents were coming down outside. Men were packing. But inside it felt like the air had been pulled out. I reached her door. My hand was halfway to the wood when the first horn cut through the stone. It was sharp and wrong. It was our horn. I turned and looked down the corridor. Shadows moved at the far end and men were already shouting. We were under attack. I looked back at her door. I could not leave without knowing what was wrong with her. I raised my hand to knock and the second horn blew. The sound pulled my hand back. My heart was pounding too hard. I started walking back. Then I heard Brenda

  • Omega of Two Packs   Horns of Trouble

Xander’s POVI was leaning over the maps on the table, tracing the line from Noctaryn to the ridge with my finger, when the first horn cut through the stone. It was our horn.It was sharp and wrong. I was already on my feet before the second horn blew. The door to the war room crashed open and one of my scouts fell in.He had blood on his mouth and on the front of his tunic. He tried to speak and coughed instead.“Alpha,” he said. “We’re under attack.”I grabbed his arm and pulled him upright.“Who?”“Three of them,” he said. “Crescent Wolves. But they’re not fighting like wolves. They’re fighting like rogues. Like they don’t feel pain. No one can stop them.”Three. Three wolves had the entire courtyard in chaos.“Get healers to the gate,” I said. Then I was running. The cold hit me as soon as I stepped outside. The camp was already torn apart from the move, and now it was worse.Tents were overturned. Fires had been kicked into the snow. Men were shouting and bleeding and Aurion wolv
