11. The Stranger

“Who else knows about this?” I whispered eagerly, looking around to be sure there were no eavesdroppers around.

“Just you and I, for now.”

“What do you mean for now?” I asked desperately, already losing my cool. Her smile was sickening. “Answer me,” I urged.

“I don’t know either, but I’m sure they will never find out soon if…” she looked around her before leaning forward. I could feel the warmth from her mouth as she whispered hurriedly,

“…if you help me.”

She lost me at that point. It was as though there was more she wasn’t saying. Something I had to find out soon.

“Follow me,” she said. At first, I felt infuriated to be ordered around by a small girl, but I was ready to let go of my pride. The unknown can be too scary to be left to chance. I followed her out of the thatched house. We headed towards the back, very close to the blacksmith that made the nametag.

“I know how to get us out of here and we both need our help.”
