15. The Ceremony

I stared at my reflection once again, before I took off the dress. I looked different. Elegant. For the first time, I acknowledged my beauty. I smiled to myself and whispered, “I wish you were here to see me, mum. I'm a princess now. Maybe a Luna.” I chuckled silently and helped myself with a clean cloth from the princess’ wardrobe. The time was far spent—a few minutes past 12 am. As I laid my head to rest on the large bed, I heard the sound of sporadic gunshots. I gasped out of bed, switched off the light, and tried to steal a look from the window. I couldn't see anything aside from the smoke suspended in the air from afar. That would have been me if Princess Scarlett hadn't rescued me. I gulped down the forming terror in my throat as I began dressing up for D-Day.

“I believe you saved me. If truly you exist, you'll save me once more,” I whispered to the moon hanging above the trees from afar.
