Chapter 10: We Never Had an Agreement to Begin With

Author: Lugongzi
Abel Felix was Trista Felix's elder brother. He had known Lilith Douglas since high school and harbored a deep fondness for her, a feeling so pure that no one dared to break the delicate window of their relationship. The two maintained a close friendship, teetering on the edge of romance but never quite crossing over.

He knew she liked him.

She knew he liked her.

But before this innocent love could blossom, Lilith Douglas married into the Orlando family.

"Did I hear from Ningning that you got married?" Lilith Douglas fell silent for a moment before nodding slowly, "Mm."

"Why did you jump into a fire pit when you knew it was dangerous? Qianqian, you know I would work hard to make money. I would have found a way to cure Darren Noah's illness," Abel Felix suddenly became agitated.

"Yijun, we never made any promises. You don't need to blame yourself," Lilith Douglas said calmly.

"But I like you, and you like me, right? We just never broke through that barrier. Why, why did you marry such a man?" Abel Felix pounded his wheelchair in frustration, as if unable to swallow this bitter pill. "You can't throw your life away with someone like that. I want to take you away, along with Darren Noah. We can go abroad, find good doctors, and get him treated. I won't let you be controlled by anyone."

"Yijun, calm down. This is the path I chose, and I don't regret it. I don't need you to blame yourself or take responsibility. You’re injured, so focus on getting better and don't worry Ningning," Lilith Douglas pushed Abel Felix back into the ward, helping him lie down. Just then, Trista Felix returned after paying the hospital fees. Seeing the unusual expressions on both of them, she guessed something was amiss.

"Should I...?"

"Ningning, your brother seems fine. I should head back; it's getting late."

"Qianqian!" Abel Felix, in his urgency, almost fell off the bed.

Trista Felix quickly steadied him, scolding, "Qianqian isn't going anywhere. What are you getting so worked up about? You’re injured, don't move around so much."

Lilith Douglas gave Abel Felix a look, "Take care of yourself. I’ll come visit you another day."

Trista Felix followed Lilith Douglas out of the ward. As a witness to the subtle emotions between Lilith Douglas and Abel Felix, she understood her brother's feelings well.

"Qianqian, when I went to pay the fees, the doctor told me that the first number they called when my brother was in trouble was yours, but you didn't answer. So they called me. My brother actually..."

"Ningning, you know my situation best. Please tell your brother not to think too much. The Orlando family is not to be trifled with." Lilith Douglas lowered her lashes, "Even when there were no obstacles between us, we never made our feelings clear. It will never happen now."

Trista Felix sighed, her face filled with worry, "I'm afraid he might get stuck in a rut."

"A relationship that never began, how much weight does it carry in life? He may feel a little resentment, a little regret, but it will pass."

Wasn't she the same?

But what else could she do besides bury it deep in her heart?

The taxi slowly stopped at the entrance of the Fu residence. Lilith Douglas paid the fare, opened the car door, and was startled to see Harvey standing there.

"What are you doing here?" Lilith Douglas clutched her chest, still shaken.

"The young madam didn't return, and the lady was worried, so she asked me to wait outside. I'm glad you’re back."

Lilith Douglas glanced at Harvey indifferently. His words made it sound as if she had been out gallivanting, "Harvey, you must be very tired."
