Bella's POV

Jaxon rose from the bed immediately, clearly stunned that I was the one who had said those words.

Control was everything to him. He loved commanding people and being feared. The idea that I—an omega, worse, the illegitimate shame of his father’s beta—would dare to reject him was unthinkable.

He stopped in front of me and stared, eyes sweeping the room as though trying to confirm who had spoken. As if he refused to believe it had come from my lips.

“You are an omega,” he said coldly, his expression hardening, “and your father’s illegitimate disgrace. Wolfless on top of that, with no hope of ever awakening your wolf. Reject me?” He scoffed. “I think I didn’t hear you right, Bella.”

“You’ve never wanted me, Jaxon,” I said quietly. “All these years, your eyes have always been on Peony—your lover. Isn’t it better if we end this charade and go our separate ways? Isn’t that what you’ve always wanted?”

Even as I spoke, I knew I was wasting my breath.

Just moments ago, I had come here hoping to reconcile and stop my family’s plots from succeeding, still foolish enough to want this union to work despite the years of neglect and humiliation.

Jaxon shook his head slowly, disbelief etched across his face.

“You can’t reject me, Bella,” he snapped. “Without me, you are nothing. Your status, the clothes you wear, the respect you receive—I gave you all of that! How dare you be so ungrateful and think you can reject me?”

His anger rose as if force alone could bend me back into submission.

I didn’t understand it.

Hadn’t he been waiting for this too? Hadn’t he despised me for three years, counting down to the day he could finally reject me and be free?

Even Peony looked surprised as she approached him, her nakedness unashamed.

“Come on, Jaxon,” she said sweetly. “Just reject her before she does. Isn't that what we’ve always wanted? The three years are finally over. Why are you hesitating?”

“I never told you I would reject her,” Jaxon whispered harshly, pulling Peony closer, unaware that I could hear every word. “She is my fated mate. Without her, my wolf weakens. I told you I would make you Luna tonight and demote her to a concubine. My wolf needs her.”

Peony stiffened.

That wasn’t enough for her.

“Are you rejecting the Alpha because he loves me and not you, Bella?” she asked suddenly, turning to me, her voice delicate like a wounded dove.

I said nothing as I knew exactly what she was doing.

“It’s not my fault he never warmed your bed,” she continued smoothly while stepping closer. “Or that he never looked your way in the three years you were together. You should’ve known what you were getting into when you stole my lover from me. Are you angry because he bought me gifts? Because he’s with me on your third anniversary?”

I met her gaze, unmoved.

“Say what you want to say, Peony,” I replied coldly. “And be quick. I don’t have time to waste.”

Her words would have hurt me before. But right now, there was nothing left she could do to anger me.

I was rejecting Jaxon and not because of her. She didn't seem to understand that part.

“You see, Peony?” Jaxon sneered. “She can’t reject me. She was bluffing. My father’s wealth rivals even that of the Lycans. I gave her power and status. Without me, she is nothing and she knows it. That’s why she can’t reject me. The Goddess knows she’ll come crawling back.”

His words pushed Peony to the edge. She was realizing that he had never intended to reject me the way she’d hoped.

No wonder Father and Paul had resorted to plotting to accuse me of infidelity. All of Peony’s efforts over the years had failed.

“No, Jaxon,” I said, my voice sharp and unwavering. “I, Bella Maxwell, reject you as my mate and Alpha. Under the skies that bore us, I sever the bond that binds us together.”

I spoke before he could bask any further in his arrogance.

“How dare you, you lowly omega!” Jaxon roared suddenly, shocked i had gone through with what I said. .

He staggered as the pain of my rejection hit him, coughing up blood before wiping it away and forcing himself upright.

He let out a chilling cruel sound when he noticed my strength draining.

“I won’t accept your rejection, Bella,” he mocked. “I am an Alpha. My blood can rival this pain. You’re just an omega who is weak and pathetic. How will you survive the agony when my refusal begins to tear you apart?”

I almost screamed, but I held my resolve.

He couldn’t stand the idea of being rejected, especially by an omega he had no intention of letting go.

Seeing how bleak my future had become, I turned toward the door. I couldn’t remain in Moonstone Pack any longer.

But before I could reach it, more than a dozen warriors restrained me, called through his mind link which was obvious.

.

“Lock her in the dungeon!” Jaxon commanded. “No food or water. Anyone who dares help her will watch their entire generation beheaded!”

“Let me go!” I screamed as they dragged me away, thrashing and shaking in their grip. But they were too strong and they feared Jaxon’s wrath more than my suffering.

As I struggled, my eyes met Peony’s to find out that she wasn’t smiling but was furious.

Not just because Jaxon had refused to reject me, but because he planned to imprison me until I broke and begged him to take me back. Which she detested.

A chill ran through me as I wondered what she was plotting.

This time, Peony wouldn’t settle for banishment, but would want me gone for good.

Theorone's POVThe reports on my desk had barely changed in the last hour.I had.The ink before me blurred into meaningless lines as my thoughts wandered elsewhere, returning again and again to the same problem I had spent days trying to ignore.Sumi.Her presence had altered the rhythm of the palace in ways few people noticed.Servants spoke more softly.Guards lingered longer outside certain corridors.Bella watched people instead of merely speaking to them. She had become observant in a way that made me uneasy. My mate possessed a dangerous gift. She rarely searched for answers directly. Instead, she watched. She listened. She gathered fragments until the truth assembled itself before her without anyone realizing she had been looking. It was the very quality that had made her an exceptional queen. It was also the reason I knew she would never stop until she uncovered whatever shadows followed that woman.A sharp knock interrupted my thoughts."Enter."The door opened almost immedi

  • Once Rejected, Now Claimed By The Lycan King   Chapter 181

Bella's POVI couldn't stop thinking about Sumi.No matter how many times I tried to convince myself that I was reading too much into what I'd seen in the kitchens, the image returned with startling clarity. I kept seeing her kneeling on the stone floor, gathering scattered onions with trembling hands while apologizing for a mistake that hadn't been hers.It wasn't the apology that haunted me.It was the fear behind it.I had seen frightened people before. Wars, betrayals, and political unrest had taught me that fear wore many faces. But Sumi's fear was unlike any I had encountered. It wasn't directed at a person standing before her. It was as though she carried an invisible enemy with her, one that followed her into every room and whispered that she would never be good enough.By the time evening approached, I knew I could no longer ignore my instincts."Laila."She looked up from the embroidery she had been working on."Yes, Your Majesty?""I want to know everything about Sumi's day

  • Once Rejected, Now Claimed By The Lycan King   Chapter 180

Bella's POVThe image of Sumi kneeling on the kitchen floor refused to leave me.Long after I returned to my chambers, I found myself staring at the untouched tea Laila had prepared. It had grown cold, yet I hadn't noticed. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw the same expression crossing Sumi's face when the pot struck the floor—not surprise, not embarrassment, but the instinctive terror of someone expecting pain.I had seen fear before.War left fear in every kingdom it touched. This was different.Fear born from battle looked outward, searching for danger. Sumi's fear looked inward, as though she believed she was the danger.A soft knock interrupted my thoughts."Your Majesty," Laila said as she entered. "Lord Theorone is here."I looked up."Send him in."A moment later, Theorone stepped into the room. His posture was as composed as ever, though his eyes immediately settled on the untouched tea before meeting mine."You haven't been resting.""It appears neither have you."The corne

Sumi's POVThe palace was too kind.It was a thought I still hadn't grown used to.Even after several days within its walls, I still found myself struggling to understand the gentleness I was shown. The servants spoke to me with respect, the guards greeted me politely, and Her Majesty had done nothing but offer me comfort since my arrival.Yet kindness unsettled me more than cruelty ever had.Cruelty was familiar. I knew how to survive it.Kindness was different.Kindness made me wonder when it would disappear.I carried an empty basket back from the kitchens, though the servants had insisted I leave the remaining work to them. They had smiled and told me I had already done enough, but I found myself unable to simply return to my room and sit idle.I needed something to do.Something to clean.Something to carry.Something to fix.Anything was better than being alone with my thoughts. The palace corridors were quiet at this hour. • Once Rejected, Now Claimed By The Lycan King   Chapter 178

Bella's POVThe palace had changed in ways I hadn't expected, not because Sumi had arrived, but because everyone else had. Their reactions, their whispers, and their judgment seemed to follow me through every corridor, making the palace feel heavier, as though suspicion itself had become another member of the royal household.I had expected resistance when I brought Sumi into the palace. She came from Valoria, and that alone was enough for many people to decide who she was before ever speaking to her. What I hadn't expected was my own uncertainty. It unsettled me more than the gossip ever could.Standing beside the window of my chambers, I stared out at the palace gardens below. The morning sun painted everything in soft gold, yet I found no comfort in the beautiful view. My thoughts kept drifting back to Sumi—to the woman I had once known, or rather... the woman I thought I had known.A quiet knock sounded at the door."My Queen.""Come in."My maid, Laila, stepped inside before offe

  • Once Rejected, Now Claimed By The Lycan King   Chapter 177

Theorone's POVThe palace had become noisier since the woman from Valoria arrived. Not in the way of raised voices or clashing steel. It was quieter than that.Far more dangerous.Whispers.Every corridor carried them. Every servant seemed to have an opinion. Every noble believed they knew what was best for the kingdom, despite knowing almost nothing about the woman they condemned.I disliked it.Not because I had any affection for Sumi.I didn't.If Bella hadn't begged me to give the woman sanctuary, Sumi would never have crossed the palace gates.Valoria had spent years making enemies of every neighboring kingdom. They had stolen land, broken treaties, and spilled innocent blood. Trusting anyone from that kingdom was foolish. But Bella had looked at me with those determined eyes of hers and said she couldn't abandon someone who had already suffered enough.I'd agreed for Bella's sake. Not Sumi's.That distinction mattered.Or at least, I kept telling myself it did."My King."Thor w
