LOGIN“You must be Evadne, Alpha Marcus’s younger daughter.”
“Alpha Greg,” I curtsied with a graceful bow and a warmer smile as I uttered the nickname that everyone calls him. “I’ve never thought you’d be my mate, although I heard a lot about you.”
“I could say the same to you,” he reached for my hand and kissed it.
Though he lowered both of our hands, Alpha Greg didn’t let go of mine.
I stroked the back of his hand with my thumb. “I’ll be the best mate and best Luna to you, Alpha Gregor.”
“I know you will...” Then swept me in a romantic dance. Alpha Greg was holding my waist tightly and I held my grip on his shoulder and other hand. The music was so mesmerizing like I was dancing to the melody of my dreams. Finally, I can escape and breathe and live with the love of my life.
Mara is rejoicing inside me too. She was howling with joy. I bet my Alpha mate’s wolf is feeling the same.
“You’re so much more beautiful up close, Eva...” my mate placed a couple of strands of hair behind my ear. “I think I can see why your father has kept you hidden for long.”
And beaten. Not only did Alpha Marcus keep me hidden, but he made sure I always tasted the might of his punches or the power of his kicks on my face or stomach every single day.
“Let’s run away tonight.”
He chuckled, “It’s too early for that. Let’s enjoy your birthday party.”
We danced and waltzed and moved to the rhythm of the vivacious music, Alpha Gregor and I throwing each other a knowing glance every few minutes.
After a couple of rounds of dancing, my mate lowered his head. Time froze again. His lips were about to brush my mouth in a kiss when someone called out his name.
I blinked, and the party and music around us came to life again as if our frozen moments had ended. “You know, Alpha Greg. I have always hoped that one day, my mate will be able to save me from this hell. And now that you’re here, I think you already did it—”
“Greg!” Someone called out his name again. “Greg! Greg!” A sharp sweet voice sounded behind me. A woman with wavy blonde hair and bright blue eyes same as mine rushed to my mate.
Alpha Gregor immediately let go of me and cleared his throat, straightening himself.
“Elodie,” he immediately met her lips. They kissed passionately as if I, his mate, wasn’t there.
My sister only recognized that I was there when she noticed my bluish silver dress—a stark contrast to her metallic red dress.
“Evadne!” My sister chirped, linking his arms to Alpha Gregor. My nose flared at her casual touch. “I’m glad you finally met my boyfriend—and fiancé—Alpha Gregor of the Fireheart Pack.”
I said nothing. All I can say is nothing. I’m speechless, utterly fucking speechless and stupid to believe that my dream of escaping will one day come true. That dance minutes ago was nothing for Greg. It was just like being high to him. It felt as if I’m not important to him even when I’m his fucking mate.
Just when I thought I could escape this hellhole, I was pushed by Elodie again—who sent me straight plunging deeper into this shithole.
I swallowed down the embarrassment and disappointment like I always do.
Elodie said more about my birthday, the party, where she got her dress. But it was all inaudible to me. I hear none of it and just let my hatred take over—especially when it seems my mate has no plan to tell my sister about what’s between us.
Elodie flipped her hair, “You know what, Greg? Eva got her dress inspired by that childhood princess she usually reads at bedtime. What an idi—”
“He’s my mate!” I blurted out without a second thought. Both of them froze as if astounded to hear a dead wolf speak all of a sudden. “Alpha Gregor of the Fireheart Pack is my mate, Elodie.”
I swallowed and inhaled deeply, preparing my cheek for a mighty slap.
But there was no slap. Instead, a maniac laughter invaded my ears.
“Oh really? Dream on, Evadne. No one gives a shit in this pack that Alpha Greg is your mate—nor do they care if you have a fucking mate. But you will never be able to take him away from me. As long as I’m alive, as long as Alpha Marcus is alive, you never will.”
Anger is now bright on her face, painting her eyes with pure rage and fury.
“Then perhaps I just have to kill both of you,” I joked and choked on a laugh.
But it only made Elodie angry even more and this time, a slap finally hit me. When I looked her straight in the eye, she finished me off with another slap on the other side of my face.
“Reject her, Greg,” she pleaded to my mate. She used her begging voice, the same voice she uses to our father when she wants something taken away from me—and paired it with her fake crying. “REJECT HER, PLEASE!”
I can’t believe she really did that in front of me. My sister being my ultimate rival with Alpha Gregor...I guess I stand no chance at all.
Greg’s ethereal face of a mate earlier instantly melted away into an uncaring male who’s secretly a monster.
“Evadne...” The way his voice instantly shifted from being polite to being stern is insane. “I, Alpha Gregor of the Fireheart Pack, reject you, Evadne, youngest daughter of Alpha Marcus of the Moonflame Pack.”
Mara screamed in pain and I fell to the ground with a haunting thud. By the look on his face, his wolf is hurting too. I have no choice, rejecting him will save me from my father’s whip and sister’s further belittling. “I, Evadne, youngest daughter of Alpha Marcus of the Moonflame Pack, accept your rejection, Alpha Gregor of the Fireheart Pack.”
And when I finished those words, I rolled to the ground, shrieking in pain. Thrashing like someone being burned alive. It hurts so much, not just by the rejection but also by the greatest betrayal of my family.
I looked into Elodie’s eyes and gave her the most furious glare. “I will kill you,” I mouthed voicelessly.
If Elodie is not my father’s daughter, that means I’m his only daughter! I shook my head, my tears streaming down my face. And yet he constantly beats me up and locks me up and, and—“Breathe, Evadne,” I told myself when panic rushed in my veins. “Breathe.” I didn’t linger more in his wretched chamber. I hurried up and sprinted from my father’s room until I was panting before the door of the council room.I strode to the council room with my breathing ragged, yet with a seemingly calm expression.“...should anyone who objects to Elodie’s banishment—” Kal’s cold demeanor immediately melted to concern when he beheld my face. “Moon Goddess above, Evadne! What happened to you?!”“I—I was...” I pointed to my father, my face becoming hard with fury. “Elodie is not your daughter, is she?” Everyone blinked at my unexpected question. My father cackled, the sound is obviously forced. “Where on earth have you been drinking again, Evadne?”Half a minute of staring and lips pursing, a
“This daughter of yours, Marcus, seemed to inherit your attitude of never knowing one’s place,” Kallias snarled as he straightened. He faced my sister with a face that I could have feared if he weren't my mate. “You are hereby banished from the Moonflame Pack, Elodie. I am confident that this punishment will teach you to know your place.” Everyone gasped, including me. I know my sister only wants my mate because of his status and because she delights in taking everything from me, but I didn't know if my mate's punishment is for the better or for the worse. “Kallias,” I whispered his name, just when my father called out to him with all the voice in the world and kneeled at his feet. “Alpha King!” Alpha Marcus didn’t hesitate to beg. I didn't even know he could beg. “Please! Please have mercy on my daughter—” I don’t know if the laughter I’m hearing is in my head orif I’m actually laughing in front of all. They all turned to me. “My mate'
Elodie’s POV (written in 3rd person)Elodie snorted. “I know that. You used to be a piss-poor Alpha, if you were to ask me.”Cold wind caressed Elodie’s bare skin. She was stripped naked, thanks to her father’s ongoing punishment that she should be denied any clothes until he ordered it again. She became her father’s new lamb to be beaten anytime he wants. Even the new Alpha-on-Duty (Beta Fionn) that the Alpha King sent to the Moonflame Pack didn’t pay any attention to her as if she weren’t the pack’s princess.“I am the Moonflame Pack’s princess!” Elodie grunted. The Rogue, the one who claimed he was a former Alpha, giggled at her words. She ignored him.Evadne took all the fame from her. Now she regretted dating Alpha Gregor more. Elodie realized that her ex-boyfriend's (and ex-fiancé's) rejection caused her sister to find herself bonded to the Alpha King.“I should be the Alpha King’s mate!” Elodie hissed louder than she should. The male beside her only laughed. Elodie
The night blurred into Kal’s quick inspection of the pack grounds, although at the back of my mind, he’s just scanning for suspicious faces. Or for the Alpha of the Blackwind Pack himself. “Kallias,” I called out to him softly. No response. He just kept striding away, not paying attention to me like I’m some contagious plague. The weather here is moodier than in the Nightblood Pack. Whether it's because of Kallias being here or my father's annoying ass that causes the magic to dislike him, I don't know. “KALLIAS!” I yelled at the top of my lungs, tears streaked my pale face. I choked down a sob as Kal stopped and turned back to me. Beta Fionn, no matter how strict he might look, he understood we needed space, so Kal and I were just left in an icy garden with a fountain in the middle while the Beta led his companions for dinner. The water’s gurgling, but it seems the magic here is not that strong, so part of it is already frost
“Luna Evadne.” My name was whispered, but I don’t need to turn around to know whose voice it was. It’s my father’s signature way of causing unease in me.I thought several times that I could handle facing my father. But I couldn't. Kal wants me to be the one who can startle Alpha Marcus, to be the bait, but in reality, I felt more startled by my father's presence. As I turned to my father, Beta Fionn (I finally remembered his name right) rushed to greet us first. Kal patted his Beta like an old friend. I only curtsied by bowing slightly. He’s Vance’s brother, yet he has that solemn look like Kallias whenever I face him. “Greetings, Luna Evadne! Welcome to the Moonflame Pack.” Beta Fionn said it as if I’ve never been in this pack, as if I’ve never grown up here. Kal squeezed my hand. I swallowed the urge to be vicious. “Thank you, Beta Fionn.” “It’s Alpha Fionn now, I suppose.” My father’s words and expression are harsh. He’d been paler t
When Kal noticed the gloom in my gaze, he clicked his fingers and Omega servants poured in out of every corner of the gardens and bushes and hedges.I was too busy with Kallias that I didn't realize their presence. They were bearing snacks consisting of plates of sweets and savory meals and bottles of chilled wine. Well, of course, it’s chilled just by looking at the surroundings. He led me from a corner I’ve never been in before. I thought at first it was a greenhouse. But when we went inside and past the carved glass doors, it was a private dining place with only a dozen or fewer tables there. We spent the last part of our date here, eating and giggling and drinking. When I’m already a bit tipsy an hour later, Kal reached for my hand with a heavy face. “We’re going to the Moonflame Pack. Tonight.” My eyelashes flutter, but not in excitement. “Moonflame Pack...tonight?!”When he mentioned the Moonflame Pack, the remaining anxiety in my body earlier
The word “Luna” before my name made Gregor clench his teeth.Kallias noticed it and side-glanced him. His gaze returned to me a heartbeat later. “Who did this?” he asked none of us in particular, his voice low and dangerous. But I can feel that the question is directly pointed at me.I avoided my m
I should not have said it too bluntly; I should have used different words. My vision blurred, but I still pushed forward. “I didn’t mean to,” I whispered. “I saw her entering the White Woods—”“The White Woods?!” Geneva smacked a hand on her own forehead. “Are you insane?!”“Almost,” Gregor replied
I only noticed it was morning when I felt the warmth of sunshine casting on my eye level, just as a whisper of cold wind blew past me.“Kallias?” I called out.But no Kallias answered back, not even his scent. But the scent of his cloak remained, wrapping around my body like a delicate flower.“It’s
I ignored his question. The three males in their human form started to circle us.‘I shouldn’t have followed after Elise!’ I scolded myself, bile now rising in my throat. I’ll definitely vomit as soon as I shift back to human.Silence fell upon the forest as if it too stilled to witness the carnage
