Chapter 60: Winter Over Spring

last update Fecha de publicación: 2026-01-15 19:34:47

I managed to climb out of bed and get up by the next morning, though the shaking of my knees and the aching of my ass didn’t help at all.

Sunlight greeted me, and it drowned out the endless intrusive thoughts in my mind. It waltzed through the silver-and-violet curtains, bathing the room as if it were a spring garden.

I felt beautiful and new in the morning light. Perhaps because of the Alpha King’s mark. Perhaps it's because of the wild passion we’re both entangled in last night.

I ran to the

Kallias’ POV (written in 3rd person)Two things were crystal clear to Kallias: Evadne is his lifeblood and he will never leave her and make sure she doesn’t either, and the fact that the Elise he befriended, whom he made a Beta, was gone even when she was still breathing. This lunch beside her was his form of torture to himself: he cannot tell the truth to Evadne. Not this time. Not yet.Even with the delicious taste of the food and the wafting smell in the air in the dining hall, it was not enough to calm the Alpha King’s mind.Evadne was looking at him suspiciously and worriedly. He let her.‘I love you, Evadne,’ he whispered to himself and let it sink in his thoughts and veins and to the very core of his soul. At least this time when he thinks of those three words, his tongue no longer bleeds and his blood no longer roared. He cannot prove Elise’s loyalties yet, nor whether she’s really working for or with Marc. For the first time in years as an Alpha King, Kal felt left behind. He

Elise had been his friend when he took her into the Nightblood Pack. Kal told me he once regarded her as a sister-friend. But now, seeing all her schemes and foul attitude as Helga said, I think it tore Kallias too. To lose a friend and consider her gone even when she’s still alive is worse than losing her to death.Perhaps Elise, like Elodie, deserved a second chance. Jealousy can really blind you. I learned that the hard way through my half-sister. Perhaps I can still save Elise from her own self, from the destructive powers of her own jealousy and envy.I know for sure I am Kal’s childhood friend and first love. Memories never lie. The scent of snowflowers, the cabin we built together...the matching coincidences of our childhood.“Memories never lie,” I repeated to myself. “I’ll fight for Kallias while trying to save Elise too.”But can I?From afar, they were talking seriously. I began to wonder how I’ll confront Elise and tell her to stop being jealous. But I already told her ear

I was brimming with happiness, but it was cut short when Alpha Fionn called him for a meeting at the Alpha’s Hall. I was welcome to join, but I found my legs turning jelly ever since the second that Kallias muttered the three words.‘I love you...’ the words echoed in my head over and over again. My immense blushing made it look like I’d been punched.I found myself looking for an early lunch while Kal attended a meeting, so I traversed the path from the front gates that would lead me to the dining hall.“A miracle that you’re still here, Evadne.” The voice of a female who’s the only one who can irritate me more than Elodie flitted into my ears behind my back. “A Luna often watches over her Alpha’s pack if he’s absent.”“Beta Orla currently watches over the Nightblood Pack, along with Beta Caesar and Beta Geneva.” I walked to her with my fists on either side. “And a banished Beta also stays in the pack she’d been banished to, especially when that pack is constantly being stalked by th

I misjudged. Elise only briefly left the room, and returned with a tray bearing more of the bowl of stew and a— “Is that wine?” Luna Lillian pointed. “Silly girl, you’re giving wine to someone in the infirmary?!” “It’s like tossing an already burning wolf into a blazing fireplace,” her husband and Alpha remarked. “This is not just any wine, Alphas and Lunas,” she pinned a glare at me. “This is a special wine that even the Oracle of the Moon Goddess drinks to strengthen herself and repel any magical attacks.” She set the tray beside the bed. “Thank you,” Kal said rather dazedly. “No.” I stood on the other side of the bed, facing Elise. “You think I can’t tell when someone’s trying to poison my mate when I see one?!” I pointed one finger at the tray. “Drink it first, then. Also, have a spoonful of that stew you brought with you. If you’re so concerned with His Majesty, then doing my orders won’t be a problem—if you’re not hidin

“Summon your silver-blue moonflames, Luna. Only tendrils of them, enough to cover the mouth and tongue,” the Healer ordered gently.“Uhm, how is that going to help?”“It’ll freeze to ashes the trace of blood magic on His Majesty while my healing magic will heal what the blood magic has done to him.”I obeyed her, and we watched our powers work their wonder. When the pregnant Healer from the Scarletsnow Pack and I were now bombarded with sweat and the bleeding had finally stopped, Kallias cracked his eyes open slowly. He took in his surroundings, the image of me standing beside him and the Healer staring down at him with her palms open.“Eva...Evadne...” Kal moaned. I squeezed his hand and the next thing I knew, I was crying. He coughed, and this time, no blood bled from his lips.“He just needs more rest, Luna.” The Healer put a hand on my shoulder, and then she was whisking me away from my mate’s earshot. “Let’s do it now.” She picked up a vial of potion with bright red liquid inside

Evadne’s POV I know a threat when I hear one. “You dare threaten the Alpha King, Elise?” I hissed softly, my voice calm but edged with disdain. “Oh, no. I merely did something to convince him further to believe me.” She chuckled darkly, a glint of malice flashed in her eyes. My thoughts remembered Kallias on the floor, his mouth bleeding, his tongue bloodied. Those were definitely not battle wounds—those were the work of blood magic. “Then better make sure your convincing will not send you to be choking on your own blood, eh?” Her face became alarmed. She opened her mouth to say something but closed it. Yes, I let her know subtly that I suspect she has something to do with Kal’s mouth bleeding and not being able to say the three words I myself took enough courage to say. ‘I love you, Kallias. I know one day and at the right time, you can say it back without blood in your tongue.’ “Good night, Elise. See you tomor

His words remained suspended in the air as I processed each word carefully. “I thought mother died of childbirth?” “She did...” he sighed before adding, “She also did not.” I scoffed and straightened my back. “For what it’s worth, I think mother dying early is a salvation fo

'The Alpha King seemed to devour any storm passing by just to show me his effort for us to dine together for the second time,’ I was telling myself. Begging myself. ‘Please don’t run to the toilet yet.’ I swallowed. Perhaps I should fart in my room first before meeting the Alpha King.

The night blurred into Kal’s quick inspection of the pack grounds, although at the back of my mind, he’s just scanning for suspicious faces. Or for the Alpha of the Blackwind Pack himself. “Kallias,” I called out to him softly. No response. He just kept striding away, not pa
