INICIAR SESIÓNI found myself at the hospital.
At first, I was confused. The bright white lights above me made my head ache terribly, and the strong smell of drugs and disinfectant filled my nose. The moment reality settled in, fear gripped me instantly, and tears rushed down my cheeks uncontrollably.
Pamela quickly held my hand, trying to calm me down.
“You have to calm down, Mary. This isn’t good for your health,” she said softly. “Tell me what happened?”
But I couldn’t say a word.
Everything had happened too fast.
My head throbbed painfully, and my body felt weak. I still couldn’t understand why I had suddenly collapsed on the street.
“What did the doctor say?” I asked weakly. “What did she say caused my collapse?”
Pamela looked at me silently for a
moment.
It was obvious she didn’t want to say anything, but the fear and confusion on my face forced her to.
Slowly, she handed me the doctor’s report.
My hands trembled as I collected it.
“You’re four weeks pregnant, Mary,” she said quietly. “You’re carrying a child.”
Those words hit me like a sharp object crashing into my chest.
“I… I…” my lips trembled violently. “How… how is that even possible?”
I stared at the paper in disbelief as though it were some horrible mistake. Tears blurred my vision almost immediately.
“You always had sex with Alex,"I said carefully. “Why are you not expecting a child?”
“I’m on drugs, remember?”and Alex and I never had raw sex. We always used protection.”
My breathing became uneven.
“What am I going to do now?” I whispered brokenly, tears falling heavily from my eyes.
Pamela immediately pulled me closer.
“You’ll be fine,” she assured me softly. “You have me and Alex. We’ll take care of you.”
That only made me cry harder.
“Where am I supposed to find Jordan?” I sobbed painfully. “I don’t even know his last name. What have I gotten myself into?”
The tears kept rushing uncontrollably down my face, soaking my neck and chest.
At that moment, regret hit me harder than anything I had ever felt before.
I regretted meeting Jordan.
I regretted that night at the club.
And most of all, I regretted letting him touch me.
Jordan’s POV
It had been six months since I started looking for Mary.
I searched everywhere.
Her former workplace.
The club where we met.
Even the hotel.
But she was nowhere to be found.
I knew I could never marry her, yet I still couldn’t get her out of my head.
There was something about Mary I had never experienced with any other woman before.
I had slept with countless women, but none of them stayed in my mind the way she did.
I never slept with the same woman twice.
Even my girlfriend barely got my attention more than twice a month.
But Mary…
Mary was different.
That woman did things to me that no one else ever had.
She drove me crazy without even trying.
She wasn’t even scared the first night we slept together. She rode me confidently, taking every inch of me like she had known me forever.
When I met Ifeoma years ago, she wasn’t even a virgin, yet she couldn’t handle me the way Mary did.
What happened to my little fox?
I leaned back in my car with frustration building inside me.
Maybe I should just forget about her and move on.
After all, life was too short to stay obsessed with one woman.
Still…
No matter how many women came around me, none of them felt like her.
It didn’t take long before I arrived at my company after receiving an urgent call.
I parked my car and entered the building, only to find my mother standing beside Vivian.
Vivian and I had been dating for four months now.
My mother adored her completely.
She had always wanted me to marry a woman from the wealthy Dangodey family.
Vivian’s father was one of the most powerful businessmen in the country, with investments linked to foreign companies. His name alone was enough to intimidate people.
And Vivian happened to be his only daughter.
Yet despite everything, I felt absolutely nothing for her.
As I approached them, I ignored the bright smile on Vivian’s face.
“I told you never to bring her to my company,” I whispered angrily to my mother.”
“She’s your girlfriend,” my mother whispered back calmly. “Now stop embarrassing me and welcome her properly.”
I stood there silently for a few seconds before forcing a fake smile onto my face.
Then I walked over to Vivian and gave her a brief hug.
We exchanged greetings before heading home together.
Mary’s POV
Three months had passed since I started antenatal care.
Life slowly became easier.
I had managed to get a photography job despite having no qualifications, and surprisingly, bookings started coming in steadily.
For the first time in a long while, things were beginning to work out for me.
I had even saved enough money to move into a huge three-bedroom apartment.
At least my baby and I would be comfortable.
Today was my hospital checkup, and I had finally decided to find out my baby’s gender.
I received a text from Pamela.
“Are you ready, my love? We’re downstairs.”
“I’ll be down in three minutes,” I replied.
Honestly, Pamela and Alex had made everything easier for me.
At the hospital, Pamela insisted the baby was a girl, while Alex argued proudly that it was definitely a boy because my stomach was growing fast and I ate too much.
The doctor laughed at our arguments as she applied cold gel to my stomach before moving the scanner gently across it.
“You’ll see the gender yourselves,” she said with a smile, her eyes fixed on the screen. “I won’t say anything.”
We all stared eagerly at the monitor.
Then suddenly—
“There!” Alex shouted excitedly.
A tiny penis appeared clearly on the screen.
Pamela and I immediately burst into laughter while Alex celebrated proudly like he had won a championship.
“I told you!” he yelled happily.
The joy in the room felt warm and peaceful.
At that moment, Alex reacted m
ore like the father than anyone else.
And somehow…
A small part of me wished Jordan was there to see it too.
The atmosphere was so thick with tension it felt like a funeral announcement had just been made. Every soul in the room held their breath, eyes darting between Jordan and Vivian as the silence stretched like a rubber band pulled too tight, threatening to snap at any moment.Jordan stood completely still, his jaw clenched, his mind racing. He couldn't tell her where he had been he knew he couldn't. The moment those words left his lips, everything would unravel. And with Vivian, nothing ever unraveled quietly. She was not that kind of woman.Vivian had never been soft. Never been the type to let things slide or look the other way. When it came to the things she wanted, the things she felt belonged to her, she fought with a ferocity that left people breathless and speechless all at once. Jordan had always known this about her. He had simply hoped today would be different. It wasn't."We need an answer, Jordan." Her voice was measured, deliberate, cutting through the silence like a blade.
The moment Jordan saw her, his heart dropped to his feet.He moved toward her without thinking, legs carrying him before his mind could catch up and when they finally stood face to face, neither of them spoke. Words felt too small, too fragile for everything that had piled up between them. Seconds stretched into something that felt like years, the air between them thick with unspoken things."I'm so sorry, Mary. I "Before the words could fully leave his lips, she reached out and pulled him inside, closing the door behind them with a soft click that somehow felt louder than it should. Then she looked at him, really looked at him and whatever wall she had spent months carefully building crumbled all at once, brick by painful brick. She kissed him.It was quick, desperate, and over before it truly began. She pulled back and moved to the far side of the room, wrapping her arms around herself like she could physically hold her feelings in place. Like if she pressed hard enough, they would
Mary's POVThe night was a heavy one.I could not sleep. The thought of what had happened at Lucius's school played through my mind on a loop, refusing to give me any peace. I lay there staring at the ceiling, turning it over and over until the darkness outside my window began to soften into grey.It was Sophia. It had to be. She was the only one who knew which school Lucius attended. I remembered that clearly from the hospital incident. I whispered it to myself like a conclusion, like saying it out loud would somehow settle the unrest inside me.It did not.I gave up on sleep and went to check on my baby.Lucius was already awake when I pushed his door open. He saw me come in and did not move. He just sat there on his bed, still and quiet, watching me with eyes that did not quite look like his own. No running toward me. No arms reaching up. No morning hug. That alone told me something was wrong.Lucius always gave me a morning hug.I moved closer slowly, the way you approach somethin
Sophia's POVThe stick felt heavy in her hand. She stood behind Vivian, still as a shadow, watching, waiting. Every word Vivian had thrown at her the day before was still ringing so loudly in her head that her hand had tightened around the stick on its own. She wanted to strike her. She wanted to hit her so hard that every cruel word would shatter like glass. But then a thought crept in quietly, the way guilt always does. What would happen to me if I hurt her? How would Jordan feel? How would Grandma feel? She exhaled slowly, loosened her grip, and let the stick fall silently to the ground.No. I will not stoop to her level. She moved closer and placed both hands firmly on Vivian's shoulders.Vivian jumped so violently that her phone flew from her hands and hit the ground with a loud crack. She spun around, her chest heaving, her eyes wide with panic until they landed on Sophia's face. The fear did not leave her eyes. It only shifted into something else. But Sophia was no longer focus

"Where did you see him? What... what made you see him?" she said, her voice laced with fear, as if something terrible had happened.I never wanted to tell her the whole story, but her question pulled it out of me like a thread unraveling a sweater. There was no going back now."Pamela, listen," I said, exhaling slowly as I gathered my thoughts. The look on her face said it all she was furious. I could tell just by the way her expression hardened, the way her jaw tightened and her eyes narrowed into something cold and sharp."I told you not to allow strangers near him! Not only did you disobey me, but you went as far as letting her spend the night with her!""That was the only decision I could make at that moment," I fired back, my voice steady despite the guilt tugging at my chest. "You were not around, Pamela. He could not have spent the whole day alone. Besides, I could not take him with me I did not want anyone disturbing me, and it was an emergency ward. He could have contracted a
