Emilia
I wasn't alone.
My heart skipped a beat as I noticed the warmth and the faint sound of breathing that wasn't me. Panic surged through me as I whipped my head to my side to find an equally naked man beside me.
Dark, messy hair covered the top half of his features and sharp, angular features that made him look like he had stepped out of a magazine.
‘Snap out of it Emilia,’ I mentally slapped myself blinking back to reality.
There were too many questions in my head. I tried to recall the entire day, but the last thing I remembered was talking to Jayden and then moving to the bar. Everything else was so…fuzzy after.
Had I …spoken to someone?
Frustration built up in me. I didn't know what the hell happened after and that was the key to understanding this. It definitely couldn't have been the alcohol considering my tolerance and that meant someone had done something to me. Like drugging me.
And now I was naked with a man I'd never met.
I was so lost in my thoughts that the moment I felt something shift at my side I nearly screamed. Startled, I shifted from the bed, turning to find the moment.
“What the...” I whispered shakily clutching the blanket to my chest.
The thing that startled me was none other than the mystery man. He stirred and I remained frozen in place as his eyes fluttered open.
I was shocked to see him easily recover. Sitting up, he looked around before settling on me. I stiffened the moment he leveled his cold, piercing gaze.
My heart leapt to my chest at the thick tension. For a moment, there was only silence until he spoke.
“You,” he said, his voice low and accusing,
I swallowed hard, my pulse pounding in my ears.
“I... I don’t know what happened,” I said
His expression hardened as he sat up, the blanket slipping to reveal a muscular chest.
“You don’t know?” he repeated, his tone sharp.
“You drugged me and brought me here. Don’t play innocent.”
His words hit me like a slap. I clenched my teeth as anger surged to the surface.
How dare he?
“Excuse me? I didn’t drug you, and I certainly didn’t plan for any of this. I'm just as freaking confused as you are.” I cried out,
He laughed, “That’s your excuse. Of course, I don't care. I won't let you go that easily. You'll pay for what you've done.”
My brows furrowed as I looked over at him with only one thought;
Who the hell did he think he was?
“You really are a piece of work,” I bit out angrily,
His eyes narrowed, but I didn’t wait for him to respond. I'd had enough of him.
In a nearly inhuman rush I scrambled out of the bed, grabbing my clothes and slipping them on as quickly as I could.
“And for the record, I don’t know who you are jackass,” I snapped, yanking on my shoes,
“Or why you’ll be so arrogant to assume that anyone will want to take advantage of you. But don’t think for a second that I wanted this. You most certainly aren't special. In fact, you should be the one who is ashamed for taking advantage of me.”
“You-”
Before he could say another word, I stormed out of the room, my cheeks burning with humiliation and anger.
I didn’t know who he was, but one thing was certain, I never wanted to see him again.
….
I slammed my apartment door closed behind me, shutting my eyes before leaning against it.
It took a moment to scale through the hotel before I found my way out. Rushing into the streets, my body remained tense until I finally reached here. The quiet apartment felt comforting and right now it was the only thing keeping chaos from earlier following me in.
A sigh left my lips. I needed a break.
Opening my eyes I headed for the bedroom when I stopped. Looking around my living room, the entire place looked emptier somehow. It took a moment to realize why.
All of Jayden's belongings were gone.
My heart sank as I looked around before stopping at the coffee table where a note laid . It was Jayden ’s handwriting.
Moving towards it, I quickly unfolded the letter.
“Emilia, we’re over. I believe it is for the best, you have done enough to embarrass me with your low class attitudes. I’m moving in with Katherine, someone who is actually within my league and matches my ambitions. You’ll never see me again. Goodbye.”
Each line I read sank into me like a knife. The reminder of last night and his words sent anger surging through me.
My hands tightened around the paper crumbling it. As soon as I was done I threw it in the trash. If he was done with me, so was I.
“Good riddance,” I uttered before taking a seat on the couch.
After reading the letter, it felt like a burden had been lifted off my shoulders. Any feelings I had for him had died last night.
RING.
My phone buzzed, driving me out of my thoughts. I looked down to see a message. It was Bae, my best friend.
‘We’re over, He left me.’ I texted her. It didn’t take a second before she replied.
‘Call me.’
I let out a low sigh knowing what was coming. Pressing the call button I was instantly hit with her voice.
“Emilia! What’s going on?What do you mean he left you?” she asked through the phone.
“I mean what I said Bae, while I was gone, he packed his things and left to move in with his rich beautiful HIGH CLASS squeeze Katherine.”
For a moment Bae was absolutely silent before she cursed out loudly with words that would make a sailor blush.
“That bastard. I told you he was no good. He wasn’t worth it.” she huffed angrily. Her righteous anger made me smile.
“Yeah, you were right, I just feel stupid. How didn’t I see this coming?” I asked,
“It’s not your fault babes. He’s the one who’s stupid for not appreciating what was right in front of him.” Bae replied soothingly.
“Thanks.”
“Anytime, and if you ever feel the need to vent or cry, I’m always here.” Bae said.
“Okay,” I said with a small smile that found its way on my lips.
After the call, sitting in silence. I stared outside the window for a while as Bae’s words resonated with me. It brought me a new wave of determination.
Hell no was I going to let this break me down.
Jayden really had some nerve thinking that I was someone who he could easily break down. But I was ready to start over, even if it meant rebuilding my life from scratch.
Closing my eyes on the couch, I tried to rid myself of the memories of everything that happened last night and today. Especially that presumptuous arrogant asshole I'd somehow fallen into bed with. Yet as I slipped into sleep, I couldn't help but feel that something unknown was coming.
And I wasn’t ready for it.
ONE MONTH LATERRichardI’d re-watched the footage so many times that I knew every detail, yet in the silence of my office I clicked the mouse once more. The hotel footage from a month ago replayed itself. In the dim lighting of the hallway, a dark grainy figure stumbled and swayed while still rushing in what looked like panic as she used the wall to balance herself. Then after a short pause she found the door that led to my hotel room.I paused right at the moment before she stumbled inside, into what was my hotel room. My gaze traced her figure, immortalized in that single frame.A mix of frustration and longing ignited within me.It's been a month since that night, and yet, no matter how much I analyzed the footage, I couldn’t look away. This wasn’t how I expected things to happen. I was very detailed about my life, careful with every move I made. And yet, in just a single night, everything had spiraled out of control because someone had dared to drug me.And then there was her.Al
EmiliaSomething was wrong. It was jarring. Things weren't supposed to be this way and for the most part, it was.Freedom felt good . It had been a month since Jayden's breakup with me and I had been thriving. I'd realized it after taking on the first five jobs within only two days of re-entering the job market. All this time, albeit unconsciously, I had been subduing herself. It all started years ago because of what Jayden used to tell me. I had graduated with better honors and opportunities than him but because of his insecurity, I took low level jobs to not make him feel bad and kept supporting him. Now I realized what a stupid mistake I'd made. In pushing myself down he had thought I was lower than him.Without Jayden dragging me down, I’d made waves in my freelance career. Jobs surprisingly kept piling up and for the first time in years, I felt like I was actually progressing. I was happier than ever in life.Until the symptoms started. At first it was just simple exhaustion and
EmiliaIt wasn’t a question.I couldn't answer him, but my silence was enough of an answer. He continued looking at me and his stare grew more unnerving. Shutting my eyes I came back to my senses.“It's none of your business. Y-you shouldn't have barged into my home. Leave now,” I snapped, trying to pull him away despite my racing heart. He didn't budge. Instead his sharp gaze lingered on me.“It is my business. It’s our child, after all,” he said, freezing me in place.I held back the urge to flinch at his words. Unable to pull him away I took several steps back. How was he so calm about this? Mentioning my pregnancy so calmly. I didn't even know him!“What are you doing here?’ I huffed, trying to regain my composure, “How on earth is Richard Kane in my house?”“So you do know who I am.”A wave of embarrassment rose to my cheeks as his lips curled into a smirk. Nevermind that if you only found out recently.A sigh left his lips.“And to think that I came here for something else. You'
EmiliaThe last thing I wanted on my first day at Kane Group was to run into Jayden. But of course, fate had a twisted sense of humor. It was almost as if the universe had conspired to test my patience, throwing me directly into the path of the last person I wanted to see.Standing in the hallway like he owned the place, Jayden turned at the sight of me, his brows furrowing in confusion before morphing into something even more insufferable—amusement.“What the hell are you doing here?” he asked, his tone a mixture of surprise and arrogance.I met his gaze without hesitation, keeping my expression calm, uninterested. “What do you mean, ‘what the hell am I doing here’?” I asked nonchalantly, as if his presence was nothing more than a minor inconvenience in my otherwise pleasant day.His lips curled into a smirk. “Oh, no, wait…” He took a step closer, tilting his head. “Are you here because of me?”The sheer confidence in his voice made my fingers twitch with the urge to wipe that smug g
EmiliaThe moment I turned to face the gossipers, my gaze locked onto one of the women in particular. Nora.Recognition hit me instantly. It wasn’t just the name—it was the way she carried herself, the sharp cheekbones, the haughty expression, the carefully styled hair that looked like it took an hour to perfect. She looked like her. Katherine. My lips curled slightly. Of course. Wasn’t it always the case? People like Katherine surrounded themselves with others who mirrored their own worst traits. If Katherine was an entitled, manipulative snake, then Nora was her eager apprentice. They are cousins And now, she was standing here, running her mouth about me. How predictable. Nora’s gaze met mine, her brown eyes flashing with something between challenge and curiosity. But just as quickly, she masked it, settling into a smug expression, lips curling into a knowing smirk. She wasn’t expecting me to confront her. I took my time, letting the silence stretch between us, w
EmiliaWalking through the sleek hallways of Kane Group, I was already prepared for the whispers, the side glances, and the not-so-subtle speculation about me. My presence here clearly unsettled some people, and they weren’t shy about showing it. But today, instead of hushed whispers and fleeting glances, I was met with something far more direct.Nora.I should have known she wouldn't back down after our last encounter. If anything, I had only fueled her desire to prove something—to herself, to her little circle of gossipers, and most importantly, to Katherine. And this time, she wasn’t alone.Standing beside her was Mr. Gallagher, one of the senior managers. A middle-aged man with graying hair, a slight paunch, and a smug expression that made my stomach turn. He carried himself with the confidence of someone who thought his position in the company made him untouchable—someone who believed he could do whatever he pleased and get away with it.His presence made it clear that this wasn
EmiliaThe news spread like wildfire.By the time I arrived at the office the next morning, everyone was already whispering about Nora’s sudden termination. It was almost laughable how quickly people turned on each other when the tide shifted. Just yesterday, Nora had walked these halls with her head held high, basking in her self-importance. But now? She was gone. And no one—not even her so-called friends—seemed particularly upset about it.As I made my way toward my office, I passed a group of employees huddled near the breakroom, their voices hushed but their excitement barely contained. They weren’t exactly subtle.“Did you hear? They kicked her out first thing in the morning.”“I heard she didn’t even get a chance to pack her things—security escorted her out.”“Well, that’s what happens when you mess with the wrong people.”A small smirk tugged at my lips. I had expected the whispers, but the sheer enthusiasm behind them was amusing. It wasn’t just about her affair with Mr. Galla
JaydenThe anticipation in the room was palpable.I sat at the long conference table, my fingers tapping against the polished wood as I waited for Richard Kane to make the announcement. Today was the day. The day he would finally reveal his right-hand man—the person who would stand beside him, making decisions, handling the most critical affairs of Kane Group.I already knew it would be me.It had to be me.I had worked tirelessly for this. No one else had climbed the corporate ladder as fast as I had. No one else had proven themselves worthy. For the past year, I had secured high-profile deals, networked with top clients, and ensured that Kane Group’s reputation remained untouchable. More importantly, Richard trusted me. He valued my work. I had been in this company longer than most of the people sitting here, and I had the track record to prove I deserved this. There was no competition. No one even came close.I leaned back in my chair, letting my fingers graze my tie before straigh
RichardThe morning sun slipped through the curtains, warm and soft on my face. I turned over slowly and saw Emilia curled up beside me, still asleep. Her breathing was soft, calm. I smiled a little and brushed a strand of hair away from her face.“Emilia,” I said gently, my voice low. “It’s morning.”She stirred but didn’t open her eyes. “Just five more minutes,” she whispered, pulling the blanket closer.I chuckled, leaning down to kiss her forehead. “We have that meeting this morning with the partners.”She groaned lightly and rolled onto her back. “I know. I didn’t forget. I just feel… off.”That made me pause. “Off? What do you mean?”She opened her eyes slowly. “Like I’m gonna be sick. I feel lightheaded too. Probably just tired. Or maybe it’s the food from last night.”I sat up and placed a hand on her forehead. She didn’t feel hot, but I didn’t like how pale she looked. “You should rest,” I said. “Don’t push yourself. I can go without you.”“But—”“No buts,” I said firmly. “I’

EmiliaI stepped into the hotel room—or suite, or whatever it was called—and my jaw almost dropped. The place was insane. Big wasn’t even the word. It was stunning. The kind of room you only see in magazines or movies. The floor was all marble, so shiny I could probably see my reflection if I looked down long enough. Right in the center of the ceiling, this massive chandelier hung down like it belonged in a palace. It sparkled like stars were trapped inside it.The walls were spotless and smooth, painted in this soft cream color that made the gold decorations pop even more. Every little thing in that room looked expensive. Even the handles on the drawers and cupboards—they weren’t just metal, they looked like real gold. I didn’t know if they were, but still, they had that kind of shine.I walked into the bedroom and paused right at the door. It was beautiful. The bed was huge—like, you could roll around for hours and still not fall off. The sheets were bright white and looked so fr
RichardIt was already afternoon when our plane touched down in Miami. The flight had been smooth and peaceful.Emilia and I were now sitting in the back of a sleek black SUV, cruising through the city streets. She was sitting quietly next to me, her head turned toward the window as she stared outside in awe.I couldn’t help but smile as I watched her eyes light up and her mouth fall slightly open with every tall palm tree or colorful building we passed."First time in Miami?" I asked, leaning a little closer to her with a grin. She didn’t take her eyes off the window when she answered. "First time anywhere, to be honest."I raised an eyebrow. "Really? You’ve never been out of the city before?"She shook her head and let out a small laugh. "Nope. Never had the chance.""Wow," I said, genuinely surprised. "Well, I’m glad your first trip is with me then."She turned her head and looked at me, smiling. Then she suddenly smacked me lightly on the arm. "You didn’t tell me you had a freakin
EmiliaI took the elevator and made my way up to my office. Just as I was about to walk in, my secretary stood up from her desk and gently stepped in front of me."Excuse me, Mrs. Kane," she said, holding a small tablet in her hand. "You have a new schedule today."I stopped, slightly confused. "What new schedule? I thought I was done for the day."She tapped quickly on her tablet, her eyes scanning the screen. "There's an impromptu board meeting. I just got the update. It’s scheduled for 1 PM."I glanced at the clock on the wall behind her. It was already 12:50."1 PM? That’s in ten minutes," I said, raising an eyebrow. "Do you know who called the meeting?"She typed a bit more, then looked up. "It was... Mrs. Smith."I didn’t even try to hide the frown that formed on my face. "Of course it was," I muttered.Without another word, I turned around and headed into my office to grab a file and straighten up. I didn’t want to give Elena the satisfaction of seeing me caught off guard.---
EmiliaDinner last night was a disaster. I was attacked by Richard's mum and that smug called Elena, head on.Even Richard's cousin Jacob insulted me. I wonder why his family decided to pick on me, even suggested that my child isn't his. What the hell??Last night was an absolute disaster, A full-on nightmareBut like every bad dream, the morning always comes. And when it does, I shake it off. I move on.I knew what Emelda and Elena were trying to do. Their plan was clever, I'll give them that but it was very petty. They wanted to humiliate me, to make me feel small, like I didn’t belong. They might have gottento me last night but I wasn’t going to let it stick. I wasn’t going to let two bored women with too much time on their hands ruin my peace. Not after everything I’ve been through.I wasn’t going to let any of them see me flinch. So today, I made sure to look like I was glowing.I wore a sleek, fitted dress , black, simple, elegant. My heels clicked confidently on the floor as I
RichardHer expression shifted for a moment. It was small, barely noticeable, but I caught it. There was something in her eyes. A flicker of hesitation, maybe even discomfort. She opened her mouth to say something but paused, like she was trying to find the right words. That told me everything I needed to know. This wasn’t just a casual chat.Nora had never been the type to hesitate. She was sharp, always composed. So seeing her like this—unsure, quiet, almost nervous—was new. And it made me curious.I hadn’t spoken to her in a long time. The last time we saw each other... things were complicated, to say the least. We hadn’t parted on bad terms, but there was unfinished business, words left unsaid. Now here she was again, standing in front of me, looking like she had something important to say.“I just...” She stopped and looked down briefly, then back at me. “I wanted to catch up, Richard.”Her voice was softer than usual, but it was still steady. She forced a small smile, though it
