Chapter 008

Lucas brought out a paper and handed it to her, his face holding no expression.

"Go inside, read it carefully, and have it signed, if you have any questions you can ask me when I come back. You can go." His tone commanding as ever.

He pushed the door open for her and she came down.

"Let's go," Then he spoke to his driver.

"But boss, you could've taken her to your other apartment why here?" The poor guy was confused.

"I don't know how she is yet, but with time she'll get to know more of me or what I own.

Depends on who she turns out to be." Lucas muttered.

"Alright boss."

"So do well to not make mistakes. Don't ever bring this car again, it'll only pose as a wedding courtesy, and that I didn't own it. Also when you're around this place, you're my friend, got it?"

"Yes boss."

"But there's no average car in your garage boss.."

"I'll use the BMW."

"Alright boss."

With that, Lucas leaned his head on the seat and closed his eyes.

He wasn't going to accept this arranged marriage in the first place, until a picture was sent to him days back and it turned out to be the girl he had ordered his manager to look for.

His one night stand. He smirked recalling that ever overwhelming night. She got him captivated. Lucas savored that moment, no girl had ever made him felt that way, or ordered him into lovemaking like she did.

Still lost in thoughts, his phone buzzed.

"You brat! I heard you left with your bride before the wedding was over?" A yell suddenly sipped into Lucas' ear, he took the phone few inches away from his ear.

"Grandpa, did I get wedded or not?"

"Where's your bride?"

"She's at the house."

"What? You dare leave her? Go back to her this minutes, you don't leave your newly wedded wife like that, where are your manners! And how will you give me a grandchild?" He bellowed.

"Grandpa, I'm married now just as you wanted right? Now you wouldn't tell me how to run my home." Lucas cut him through.

"You brat! Bring yourself here now!"

Then the call ended, Lucas sighed.

His old man had been on his neck to get married, now he was married and he want to help him run his marriage too.

Lucas wanted to be sure of Selene, what if she was those girl that were after prominent people's money, steal some money even if it wasn't enough for them and run off? He wasn't ready to waste his energy on someone like that.

He must watch her closely, know the kind of girl she was before accepting her completely into his life.

Selene walked slowly, her eyes darting around.

It was as if no life had been here in a while.

But he lived here? How so? She questioned herself.

She inserted the key, and held the door opened.

Inside was quite bright, it looked nothing like the lonely, abandoned vibe the outside was giving.

Atleast the lump on her throat was slowly wearing off.

Even though there were no furnitures, it looked spacious, the walls were clean, painted in light grey, the floor was tiled in white, giving this shiny vibe.

She darted around the apartment checking it out.

It was good and still standard, an average class can raise a family here, all that was needed was just few furnitures, kitchen wares to set it up into a home.

She walked into the balcony, her eyes wandered around, noticing slots that needed flowers, she thought of how she could build this place into a garden. Then get a swinging chair that could fit it perfectly.

She came back inside..

The dust on the shiny tiles glaring at her along with the cobwebs at the ceiling.

How could he say he had lived here?

Either way, she would start by cleaning up.

She left to the bathroom, thanks goodness there were some old mops and the water seemed to be running fine.

Selene began work at her house.

Even as the house looked like this and not upto par in anyway, not the kind Anna her sister would spent even a second inside, she was still grateful, atleast she left the hell hole of her sister and stepmother, she was going to live peacefully here and focus on building her life while taking care of her little brother.

Just then, her phone began ringing.

A caller ID she knew very well.

Anxiety crawled into her stomach, her face went paled.

If this person called then there was a huge problem, has she lost her brother for good?

Tears already started brimming in her eyes.

She hoped and wished it was not what she was thinking.

With shaky hands, she picked up the call,

"Jason? How's Jason?" She muttered, her voice smuggled with tears.

"Selene, there's something I need to tell you." The nurse muttered.

Selene nodded rapidly even though the nurse wasn't there to see her.

"Tell me, what is it."

"I'm afraid, Jason's treatment might have to stop."

Selene heaved a sigh, her hand placed on her stomach, atleast nothing had happened to Jason, he was still alive there.

But stopping his treatment? Her forehead creased.

"Why?"

"The hospital are insisting his treatment have to stop, his bills are piling up."

"What?"

Frown settled on Selene's forehead.

What did she mean by his bills were piling up?

The last time she checked, her wages were always sent to her stepmother who often sort out the bills.
