As soon as Matthew and his men, along with Ava were out of earshot, Helga fumbled on her phone. She struggled to keep her fingers from trembling. "Come on, pick it up, Charles. Pick the damn phone up!"

"Mom, what are you going to tell Dad?"

"What else?!" She sneered, "I'm going to tell your father that he had to do something! I'm not going to sit and watch Ava be the lucky one while you rot here with us!"

"Hey! That's not very nice! I have call backs and auditions lined up!" Beatriz frowned at her mother's words.

Helen rolled and eyes and continued calling her husband who was at work. "Do me a favor, Beatriz, go away while I sort this out!"

"Alice, hey!" Matthew threw his passenger a pissed glare. "Every f*cking time."Because they've known each other for a long time, this incident was no longer new for Matthew--this happened several times a month. Alice goes out with her so-called friends whose only mission was to ride on her influence and popularity and leave her just like that when the pictures are taken and the happening was posted on IG or other social app.Matthew hit the steering wheel in agony, "every f*cking time, Alice. What happened to your friends? You shouldn't be walking alone the streets especially when you intend to get drunk."The truth was, Alice was not asleep. She's not even drunk. Her alcohol tolerance was exemplary, thanks to the daily exposure to social drinking since she was a teen. She could down a whole bottle of tequilla in one go without breaking a sweat. It was all her doing--a one woman show. Her timing was perfect. The man who was bugging her was good too. He was a struggling actor she met

Gerald was already seated at the dining table. Ava gasped at the luxurious setting, their house was not bad and she was raised comfortably but the Lancaster dinner literally meant a banquet. Ava was in awe--in fact, that was what she was doing from the moment she set foot at the mansion.Silas coughed to pull her back to reality, "Miss Priestly?"Ava was instanly aware of the situation and continued with her steps. "Oh, I am so sorry...this place is just so lovely. It reminds me of castles in movies, sir.""It is," Gerald beamed. "Sit, Ava. And please drop the sir. I believe you know why you are here and you know the relationship we will soon have?"Her eyes grew wide, full of curiousity, "about that, yes. I was told. However, the definition of 'relationship' was vague. I was hoping Matthew could shed some light on my confusion." She queried respectfully, and Gerald was impressed. He honestly thought that the woman his grandson took home would be someone who'd be instantly blinded by

“Hey, sexy, can I keep you warm?” A slurring male tone purred behind Alice."Stop annoying me."“Who’s annoying you? I want to keep you cozy.” He slides down next to her, pushing against her side intrusively. The stench of stale sweat mixed with cheap aftershave reached Alice's nose. She moved away to provide ample space between them. He isn’t that bad looking, maybe if they'd met on the dance floor, she'd probably talk to him, but he has the air of a pushy guy who doesn’t take no for an answer very often. “Go away; I’m not looking to get cozy with anyone except him.” Alice lifted her phone, shaking it as though to demonstrate she called him, and this time she kept it in her hand in case she needed to smack him in the face with it. “I saw you here earlier. It didn’t look like you had a problem dancing up close to some guy who later left with a little ginger. Pretty sure your boyfriend would love to know about that …or you could open up and give me a few minutes of your time to kee

The antique grandfather clock stood majestically in the elegant living area of the Lancaster mansion. It's six o'clock but there's no Matthew in sight. Silas arrived with Ava Priestly three hours ago and she's in one of the many bedrooms waiting to be summoned.Gerald smirked, his fingers tapping on the arm of the vintage wooden chair that resembled a throne. "Where the hell is Matthew, Silas?"Silas just got off the phone and recalled how Matthew wanted him to handle everything because of an 'emergency', he knew he could not lie because Gerald could see through him. "He's with Alice, sir."A pause. It took the old man several seconds to compose himself and come up with an answer. "That woman is getting in my nerves, Silas. She came here today asking to see Matthew--no, she did not ask, she demanded and acted like she's the mistress of this mansion! She's rude and self-absorbed and my grandson couldn't see that?"All that Silas could do was to bite his inner lip in distraught. He and

Alice and he had a bond like no other, and even though the past months had seen them changing towards each other. He picked his phone and scrolled to his most recent calls, hitting Silas' name, laying it back down in the console, eyes glued to the road, frowning. He hated driving in mid-town traffic past six in the evening.; the hustle and bustle of people hitting the nightlife always made navigating it a headache.[Hey, are you almost here? Gerald is not happy. Just giving you a heads up.] “Look … I’m sorry, but I need to cancel plans tonight. Handle grandfather and Ava tonight. She's not going back to the Priestly's. I need to go deal with Alice.” He waited with paused breath at the long silence that stretched between them. Zero response as Silas took it in, and he could already picture the expression on his face.[Again? Of all the times? What about her assistant? I can't handle Gerald, Matthew. You know how he can be.]“She’s a mess and alone at a club. I can’t leave her there.

Matthew glanced down at his phone lighting up in the center console of his car and sighed as Alice's name flashed on the screen. He was running late as it was, which he hated like crazy, but he knew for a fact that whatever she wanted, he would give in to. Alice just had a way of getting under his skin, even when she was being as infuriating as in the past months, and try as he might, he had no willpower when it came to her. Hitting his dash connected to his phone, her voice rang around the car's interior as soon as he pressed it. [Matthew? Are you there?” She was slurring badly, most likely drunk. His temper rose internally, his heart rate rising, and his muscles started to tense.“Yes, Alice. I’m here. Where are you this time?” He knew why she was calling, she needed picking up, and as he checked his dash for the time, he cursed quietly. His grandfather would be waiting for him, it was another twenty minutes to the mansion and he could guarantee Alice would be in the opposite di
