Masuk“I came to get my girl,” he said.
The words fell off of his tongue like sweet honey. His girl. That had to be the sexiest thing he has ever said. “Your girl? When did I become your girl?” I asked, breathing heavy. He lifted my chin and rubbed his thumb on my lips. “You’ve always been my girl. Even when you were someone else’s. I’ve always loved you and I always will,” he said. He leaned in and I knew he was going to kiss me. “Kee,” I said, softly and with no will power left. “Can I please,” he begged, rubbing my lips once more. A magnetic energy pulled him towards me and I let down my guard. Our lips softly touched. “How does this work though?” I asked. “Well that’s what I came to tell you. I stay about three hours from here now,” he said. “Huh? How? Why?” I asked. “I was drafted by the Tennessee Titans, Brees. I live here now,” he said. “Are you serious? Oh my gosh, Keegan! Congratulations!” I screamed, wrapping my arms around his neck. He lifted me onto the counter, so that we were eye level. “So now, back to you being my girl. Is that something you can do for me?” He asked. I nodded without hesitation. I pulled him towards me by his hoodie strings and kissed him deeply. “I love you so much Keegan Patts. I always have,” I said. “I am done letting fear run me away from this. I want this and I’m going to make this work. I need you, Squirt,” he said, kissing my forehead. We sat in an embrace for a while. Then I remembered I was leaving tomorrow to head back to Louisiana. “Kee, I leave for home tomorrow. I planned to spend the summer in Kentwood,” I said. “Don’t go. Come back with me. I start training camp in a month. You and I can spend time together getting to know one another again. Then spend the rest of that time back home. We can head out in the morning,” he suggested. I pondered on it. He did say we shouldn’t live in fear of us anymore and he was right. “Yes!” I said. “Yeah? Really? Brees, this makes me so happy. We are doing this. We are going to make this work. Our love is stronger than any distance could ever put between us. I’m so in love with you,” he said, kissing me again. We spent the next month in his beautiful condo. I decided to enroll in online classes while I was in my off season of softball, so that I could stay with him longer and go to his home games. It was so much fun watching my guy on the field. At the end of the school year, everyone came up for my graduation. Keegan was there too. It felt good to have everyone around me. Even Cy, Casey and Wren made it out. We had dinner at Keegan’s place. He had a beautiful deck area with a long table that fit everyone. He stood to get everyone’s attention and I knew it was speech time in my honor. “Everyone first off, welcome to our home,” he started. Did he say OUR, as in mine and his? “I am so proud of Brees. She was able to support me during my rookie season and end her senior year as MVP and top of her class. This woman is so incredible. I’m not sure how I spent four years without her in my life,” he said. I smiled at him. This toast was embarrassing. It was telling. He was expressing his feelings for me, in front of our loved ones. “I don’t ever want to spend another day without her. So with Dante’s blessing and Missy’s retail expertise, I am asking you Brees James Hamlin, will you spend every night with me for the rest of your life?” He asked. I think the question went over my head because I sat silently for a while. The room had turned its attention to me. “Brees? Will you marry me?” He asked, pulling out a beautiful engagement ring. “Kee… oh my gosh. Yes. A thousand times, yes!” I screamed. I almost tripped, getting over to him. He slipped the emerald and diamond ring onto my finger. I kissed him, and kissed him. The room erupted in applause and cheers. I looked over to see my mom and Ms. Kyren, crying. “Finally you will be my brother-in-law,” Baylen said, hugging Keegan. “It’s about time, Kee P.,” Casey said, kissing his cheek. We celebrated the rest of the night with our family and friends. I was ready to start my life as an NFL wife. 9-year-old me would be screaming if she had known this outcome. I couldn’t be happier that I was marrying Keegan Patts.“I came to get my girl,” he said. The words fell off of his tongue like sweet honey. His girl. Three months had gone by since I had been home. I hadn’t seen or spoken to Keegan. He texted me and called me, but I never answered. To talk to him would mean I would have to tear the bandaid off of my heart and I wasn’t ready for that. I finished my junior year of college and I was preparing myself mentally to go home for the summer. Softball players stayed on campus for a month longer than other students, due to our schedules. Since Keegan was probably drafted already, he wouldn’t be at the house. I begged everyone not to tell me anything about him and I avoided social media and television. It gave me the perfect opportunity to get home and bond with the twins and my mom. Quinn and Baylen were moving into their house too, so I wanted to be there to support them. They were living closer to my dad though but it was only about a 20 minute drive. I also was eager to spend time with Wren and Casey. Since Casey had finally accepted Cyman’s proposal, I’m sure there was another wedding t
I sat up. “How can you say that? That was a goodbye kiss, and you know it. You going with her, knowing how she feels about you, isn’t something I can ignore. Am I supposed to wait while you play house with Haven?”I stood, stepping out of his reach.“Brees,” he pleaded, “I love you. Please come sit with me. I’m leaving in like ten minutes. I don’t want to spend our last moments together fighting. .”I shook my head. “I can’t be that girl anymore.”“Eight weeks,” he said. “We can survive eight weeks. I swear it’ll be worth it.”I wanted to believe him. My heart refused.“Let’s revisit this in eight weeks then. If you love me now, you will love me then,” I said.He reached for me again just as the door opened.“James?” Casey said. “You okay?”I nodded, then ran to her, burying my face in her shoulder.“Brees, please,” Keegan said behind me. “Not like this.”“Kee,” Casey cut in coldly, “I just saw Haven’s car down the street. She looked like she was freshening up for her boy toy. You sho
Casey was coming over to help me pack. Tomorrow, I’d be back in Tennessee. Today, Keegan was leaving with Haven.Nothing tasted right. Sounds I usually loved, the birds, the kids laughing outside, fell flat. Time moved without me, thick and slow, like I was watching my life through glass.Keegan had broken me again, and I didn’t know how to stitch myself back together. With both of us leaving, distance felt like the only mercy. I stayed out of the shared spaces, avoided the kitchen, the living room, anywhere I might run into him. I knew he’d want to explain. I didn’t have the strength to listen. I loved him, but what we shared the other night, made that door closed for good. I longed for him, but he had to live his life and I had to live mine. I told myself I was done. I’d moved on with Tate. We’d been good for almost a year. I hadn’t thought about Keegan at all. But the second I saw him, everything came rushing back: love, want, muscle memory. And sleeping with him again, made it im
She was being very weird this morning. “How did you sleep Keegan?” She asked.“Fine mom. The guest room bed is way more comfortable than the one in my apartment,” he said, grabbing the creamer from the fridge. “How would you know? You didn’t sleep in it,” she said, looking at him over her glass. We both turned to look at her. I’m sure my jaw was on the ground. “Mom, don’t start this. Not this morning,” he pleaded. “I didn’t say anything. I just want you to stay focused with so much at hand this year. I don’t want you to fall back into whatever this is again,” she said. Did she think I was a risk to his career? It sure seemed like that’s what she was saying. I’ve always felt like she never wanted me and Keegan to be together. It always sat quietly in the back of my mind.“Mom, what I do with Brees is my business. Her and I have a lot to figure out, without you meddling,” he said.“Just looking out for you. I mean look at Casey. Is that how you want to end up? With a kid while you
We lay together all night. He rubbed my back as I lay on his chest. I hadn’t even put my clothes back on yet. I was soaking in the moment. I couldn’t believe after four years I was back in his arms. The sun was coming up and I knew our parents would be up soon.“Kee,” I whispered, kissing his chin, “We gotta get up.”He opened his eyes slightly and looked at me. His face lit up as he realized what had happened was real. He wrapped his arms around me and kissed the top of my head. “Just lie here with me a little while longer. I’ve never spent the night with you,” he said.I obliged. I wasn’t in a hurry to let him go either. We didn’t speak. We just held each other. There was a deafening silence that I couldn’t help but notice. What did last night mean for us? Would we try to make a relationship work? What about Haven and his brand deals? There were so many questions, but I pushed them all away so I could enjoy this moment. So,” he says, “Last night.”I let out a short breath that’s
