Okay…
Cheating is already bad. We all know that. You catch your partner cheating, you cry, blast sad songs, stalk everybody involved, swear you’re done with love, then somehow end up checking their I*******m at two in the morning like you’re an FBI agent that forgot to clock out. Standard procedure. But cheating with a man? Now that’s diabolical. That’s the kind of plot twist that makes you pause real life and ask God if He accidentally gave your life to the wrong scriptwriter. Like… Out of everybody on this green earth. Seven billion people. Women. Men. Aliens, probably. My husband looked around and said, “Yeah… my best friend will do.” “I wanna fuck my best friend instead” Honestly? I don’t even know which part offended me the most. The cheating? The lying? Or the fact that this man let me spend five years playing Wife of the Year while he was out here living a completely different love story. Before some of you start acting like detectives in the comments talking about, “Emma, the signs were obvious.” Respectfully… Shut up. Because I already know. Now. Not then. Back then I was in love. And love is a medical condition because there’s no other explanation for the level of foolishness I displayed. Looking back now, God wasn’t sending me red flags. He was throwing bricks. And I was catching them, decorating them with ribbons, and calling them “communication.” Tell me why my husband knew more about skincare than Sephora employees. Why did this grown man own more serums than I owned socks? Why did he have opinions about throw pillows? Throw pillows! One day I bought two white pillows, and this man had the audacity to look disappointed. “Babe,” he said, “those aren’t the same white.” … I’m sorry? White is white. Apparently not. According to Professor Mason Callahan, one was ivory and the other was winter linen. Winter linen? What does winter have to do with a pillow? Still… Did I question it? No. Because apparently my brain goes on annual leave whenever I fall in love. The funniest part? Today was our fifth wedding anniversary. Five years. Five whole years. Do you know how embarrassing that is? People finish medical school in less time than I spent unknowingly being the beard in somebody else’s love story. And just wait until I tell you what I walked into… Mason wiped his mouth. Logan looked like he wanted the floor to open up and swallow him. And me? I was still standing there holding the stupid wrapping paper like my entire life hadn’t just turned into a damn episode of a show I never signed up for. I could keep telling you what happened next. The silence. The way my hands started shaking. The way Mason said my name like he was already tired of the conversation. But if I stay here I’m going to start screaming all over again and nobody needs that. So now… Let me take y’all back to the very beginning. rewinds Okay. Picture this. The afternoon of our fifth anniversary. I was in the car driving home, phone on speaker, talking to Nia like I always do when I’m nervous and need somebody to talk me off the ledge. The custom watch was in a little box on the passenger seat. I had been hiding it in my drawer for weeks. The candles were already in a bag in the trunk. I had timed everything. Mason said he would be home by seven. That gave me just enough time to set the table, light everything, and pretend I was the type of wife who had her life fully together. Nia was chewing something on the other end of the phone. “You’re really doing all this?” she asked. “It’s our anniversary.” “I know what day it is, Emma. I’m asking if you’re really about to decorate the house like you’re proposing to the man.” I switched lanes and checked the time again. “I just want it to feel special.” “You say that every year.” “And every year I mean it.” Nia went quiet for a second. I could already hear the lecture forming. “You bought the watch he casually mentioned one time three months ago.” “He said it looked nice.” “He says a lot of things look nice. You don’t have to turn every comment into a mission.” I tightened my hands on the steering wheel. “I want him to feel chosen, Nia. Is that so bad?” “It’s not bad. It’s just… a lot. You’re always the one planning. Always the one adjusting. Always the one trying to make the night perfect while he just shows up and exists.” “He’s been busy with work.” “He’s been busy with work for five years.” I didn’t answer that. Because she wasn’t wrong and I didn’t feel like fighting her while I was trying to stay in a good mood. The whole point of today was to celebrate. Not to pick apart my marriage on speakerphone. “I’m almost home,” I told her. “I’ll call you later.” “Emma.” “I’ll call you later.” “Fine. But if he doesn’t act properly impressed by that watch I’m coming over to fight him myself.” I laughed under my breath and ended the call. The house was quiet when I pulled into the driveway. His car wasn’t there yet. Perfect. I grabbed the bags, unlocked the door, and stepped inside already planning where the candles would go. I had no idea I was about to walk upstairs and lose the version of my life I thought I was living. I was already smiling a little. I had the whole thing planned in my head. Light the candles. Put the watch on his pillow. Maybe change into the dress he once said he liked. I wanted him to walk in and feel like somebody had been thinking about him all day. I reached the bedroom door…. Are y’all ready to see what I fucking saw? Here you go.“Please stop whispering crazy things while I am standing right beside you. I have already witnessed enough sexual confusion for one night, and I refuse to become an audience member for whatever this is.”Nia laughed and finally stepped out of his arms, but he caught her by the waist and pulled her back against him before she could reach me.He lowered his mouth to her ear and whispered, “You are not leaving before you tell me where I can find you later.”She rested one hand against his chest and smiled up at him.“You can find me wherever the doors lock.”His eyes darkened immediately, and his hand tightened around her waist.I reached for Nia’s wrist and pulled her away before they could start touching each other again.“You can both continue making plans to ruin this yacht after I have had at least one drink.”Nia looked over her shoulder at him.“Do not go anywhere.”He watched her body as I dragged her away.“I was about to tell you the same thing.”I shook my head and tightened m
“No, I can’t go in there.” Nia stopped so suddenly that I nearly walked straight into her back. She turned around on the dock, one hand holding her clutch and the other planted on her hip, staring at me like I had just announced I wanted to swim home. “What the fuck is no?” I looked past her at the yacht again. “Nia, look at these people. They all look like they have private chefs and offshore accounts. I cannot go in there looking like this.” She looked me up and down. “Looking like what? Fine as fuck?” “Nia.” “What?” She grabbed my shoulders. “You are fine, girl. Do you hear me? Fine. Your ass is sitting in that dress like it pays rent, your titties are one deep breath away from causing a maritime emergency, and your face looks expensive. Stop acting like you came here wearing a church choir uniform.” I glanced toward the entrance again. “What if someone recognizes me?” “You have your mask on.” She tapped the black lace covering half my face. “No one will recognize you.
~Emma~This is gonna be a crazy night, y’all.By the time we got downstairs, Nia was already on the phone screaming at her friend because apparently the yacht was leaving in thirty minutes and she had forgotten to mention that tiny, extremely important detail while she was busy pretending to fuck me from behind.“Tell them to wait,” she demanded, marching toward the car like she owned the road, the yacht, and every body of water connected to it. “I have a recently traumatized married woman with me, and her titties took longer than expected.”I stopped walking.“Nia.”She covered the phone with her hand.“What?”“Why are you announcing my marital crisis to strangers?”“They’re not strangers. They’re yacht people.”“What the hell is a yacht person?”“I don’t know yet, but we’re about to find out.”She uncovered the phone and continued shouting.“Yes, she caught her husband cheating. No, not with a woman. With his best friend. Yes, on their anniversary. I know! It’s disgusting. Anyway, s
I came back holding the thing with two fingers like it had personally ruined my credit score.Nia’s whole face lit up like Christmas had come early.“Yes. Perfect. Beautiful. Now come closer. You’re Logan. I’m Mason. Set the scene properly. I want the full anniversary experience. Don’t half-ass it. I need the energy. I need the commitment. I need to understand why your husband was moaning like he was receiving revelation.”I looked down at her on the floor, dildo in my hand, wine in my system, marriage in the trash, and genuinely wondered how this became my life.“I hate you so much right now.”She grinned up at me like this was the best night of her year.“I know you do. Now get in character. And don’t you dare be shy with the moaning. I need full accuracy. Give me what Mason gave Logan. I want to feel the betrayal in real time.”“I’m not moaning for you.”“You are Logan right now. Logan moaned. Logan participated. Logan was committed to the performance. Stop being a weak co-star and
The second I opened Nia’s apartment door, she took one look at my face, threw both hands in the air and yelled,“I KNEW THAT NIGGA WAS GAY!”I blinked.“…Girl.”“No, don’t ‘girl’ me.”She grabbed my arm and dragged me inside.“I knew something was off with that man.”“You did not.”“I absolutely did.”“You absolutely did not.”“I absolutely, positively, spiritually did.”I stared at her.“So… you watched me marry him?”“I didn’t have evidence!”“You just said you knew!”“I had a feeling!”“You couldn’t have shared that feeling before I legally attached myself to him?”She looked offended.“And tell you what? ‘Hey bestie, I think your fiancé likes men because he stands too nicely?’ Emma, be serious.”I threw my purse at her.She caught it.“You see? Good reflexes. That’s why we’re best friends.”I kicked my heels off so hard one of them flew across the living room.Nia looked at it.“Damn.”“I know.”“No, I mean damn. Those heels expensive.”“Nia!”“What? We already know your marriage
I reached the bedroom door.It wasn’t fully closed. And that was when I heard it.I pushed it open.Mason was on his back.Logan was on top of him.And my husband was moaning into another man’s mouth.Logan’s hand was wrapped around him, stroking slow and tight, and every time he twisted his wrist Mason let out this little “fuck… right there” that I had never once heard in five years of marriage.Their mouths kept missing and catching again, spit shiny between them, and Logan was grinding down against him while Mason’s hips kept lifting off the bed like he couldn’t stay still.“Just like that,” Mason breathed. “Don’t stop… don’t fucking stop.”“Shit… Logan… right there… fuck, you’re gonna make me cum…”I just stood there.I couldn’t move.I couldn’t blink.I watched my husband’s head tip back into the pillow.I watched his mouth fall open against Logan’s.I watched the way his stomach tightened every time that hand moved faster.“You feel that?” Logan muttered against his skin. “You’v
