"I said get in, Lyyana!" Petra exclaimed, pulling Lyyana's body while bringing her back to awareness.
Lyyana jerked, quickly getting up while carrying the frightened Garret. "Sorry," Lyyana said with a trembling voice.
Lyyana hurriedly entered the car, coinciding with the presence of the people who had been chasing her. With a frightened expression, Lyyana tried to calm her heartbeat and normalize her breath. Petra did nothing but observe Lyyana's reaction and the people now standing in front of his car.
Petra honked his horn, as if giving a warning to the thugs standing in front of his car. Shortly after, they moved aside, allowing Petra's car to pass and leave the place. Petra tightly gripped the steering wheel, neutralizing the indescribable feeling within him.
"Is there something to report?" Petra asked Lyyana, who was laying Garret's body on the bed.
"Sorry, sir, my mistake. I was careless, but..." Lyyana's words stopped for a moment. She didn't dare to tell the reason why she fell on the asphalt with Garret. "But earlier, I ran because I was being chased by people who bought me."
"Enough. Do your task well!" Petra said as he walked past Lyyana.
"Yes, Sir." Lyyana still bowed, and even after the door closed, Lyyana continued to lower her head.
There was nothing Lyyana could do; she even ignored the wound on her elbow. Lyyana chose to sit on Garret's bedroom carpet and gaze at his innocent face.
It had been almost a week since Lyyana took on her role as Garret's new caretaker, and Garret's tantrums were starting to decrease. If he used to throw a fit once a day, now he only did it when Lyyana was out of his sight.
Like now, Garret woke up from his sleep and didn't find Lyyana by his side. Instead, he saw another babysitter inviting him to have breakfast. Garret rebelled, slamming anything in front of him. The tidy blue-themed room turned into chaos in an instant.
Not satisfied with the babysitter's explanation that Lyyana was outside, Garret ran out of the room, shouting, "Mommy! I want mommy! Where's my mommy!" Garret cried from his private room.
"Young master," pleaded another babysitter as she ran after Garret, who was causing a ruckus while carrying broken glass.
Garret ran while shouting "Mommy" until he almost fell on the last step if there hadn't been a gentle hand catching his body. "Hey, what's wrong?" Lyyana asked softly.
Garret cried, throwing broken glass in any direction. "Mommy, don't leave again," he said with a hoarse voice, mixed with his sobbing.
"Mommy isn't going anywhere; Mommy is preparing something for her little hero." Lyyana unwound her embrace. Lyyana reluctantly agreed to Garret calling her mom; a while ago, she called herself aunt or sister, and it ended with Garret throwing a tantrum because he didn't want to change his way of addressing her.
"A surprise?" Garret asked, wiping away the remaining tears.
Lyyana smiled gently, nodding. One of her hands also wiped away Garret's tears. "Come on," Lyyana said, lifting Garret's body and carrying him.
"Sorry," Lyyana murmured as she passed the other babysitter who looked tired because of her little boss's antics.
From a distance, a tall figure in sportswear looked at the interaction between Lyyana and Garret. He picked up the broken glass thrown by his own son. "Clean it up," he ordered the babysitter standing nearby. Petra then followed Lyyana's footsteps.
"Now, this is the surprise!" Lyyana exclaimed with a clearly printed smile on her face.
Garret turned back. "Wow, camping!" Garret cheered. "Are we going to camp, Mommy?" he asked, touching Lyyana's arm.
Lyyana nodded, guiding Garret towards the tent that she had set up painstakingly since dawn. "Today, we'll have breakfast here, okay? What do you think?"
"I want to!" Garret exclaimed.
Lyyana began her activity of feeding Garret the specially prepared breakfast. Garret looked enthusiastic and eager to finish his food. "Do you like it, Garret?"
"Like it, Mommy!" Garret exclaimed with a mouth full of food. Garret then looked towards the kitchen door, seeing his father standing there frozen with a paper-thin smile. "Dad, come!" Garret ran towards his father.
"Garret, be ca—" Lyyana's words were cut off as her ward fell right in front of Petra's feet. Garret looked up at Petra, who was still frozen in place. Lyyana sighed deeply, getting up and walking towards Garret.
"Hi, Mommy's boy, it's okay. Garret's hero doesn't cry when he falls. Come on, let's get up; Mommy will help." Lyyana reached out her hand, and Garret accepted it, trying to get up on his own.
"Mom, is Dad angry with Garret?" Garret asked, bowing his head as he looked at his father's motionless feet.
Lyyana smiled, bowing her body, and said, "Dad never gets angry with Garret. No parent gets angry or hates their child. Dad has to go to the office this morning, so he can't accompany us camping. But next time, Dad will join Garret camping, okay? Now, finish your breakfast first, and later, we'll play drawing again. How about that?"
"But Garret wants to be with Dad, Mom." Garret's voice began to tremble, and usually, he would throw a fit and destroy anything in front of him.
Petra was ready to move away from breakable objects, but the next moment, he was actually stunned and looked unbelieving. "Garret, remember the story Mommy read to you last night?"
Garret nodded, and he seemed to think for a moment before saying, "Okay, never mind. Because Mommy said a responsible person is someone who doesn't leave his duties. And Dad is responsible, so it's okay. Another time, let's go, Mom."
Before leaving, Garret glanced at Petra, the little boy smiled and raised his hand in the air. "Dad, cheer up! Garret is fine," Garret said with a slightly stuttering voice.
Petra was stunned by Garret's words and actions. Until now, Garret had always closed himself off to him. Let alone giving encouragement, Garret would immediately cry in fear if Petra was around. Since that night, Garret always said Petra was mean and angry because of him. But this time, Petra truly saw another side of Garret.
Lyyana grasped Garret's tiny fingers and distanced herself from Petra. Before leaving, Lyyana took a moment to nod her head as a sign of respect to her own boss. Petra was stunned by the change that had happened to Garret. Garret was truly docile when facing or being near Lyyana and would become wild when Lyyana was out of his sight.
"What have you done to Garret, actually?"
Petra couldn't stay there for long; she had to leave for the office and finish her work, leaving Garret and Lyyana with an inexplicable gaze. It seems that Garret has indeed been tamed by Lyyana, as before being with her, Garret would throw a fit if Petra left him to work. The four-year-old would do anything to get Petra's attention, but unfortunately, all of Garret's efforts never succeeded in bringing Petra closer to him. Instead, Petra would leave him more often with other babysitters."Garret, why?" asked Lyyana, seeing Garret's suddenly sad face.Garret looked at Lyyana with a pouty face. After a moment of silence, Garret shook his head and hugged Lyyana tightly, as if asking her not to leave him again. Lyyana could only smile thinly, then gently rubbed Garret's head with love and tenderness."Shall we play again?" Lyyana suggested, trying to cheer up her ward.Garret nodded
Lyyana continued to stare at the woman in front of her with a questioning look, while the head servant, in contrast to Lyyana, looked at her with confusion. "I apologize, but I can't say much about that because... it's Mr. Petra's private matter." Lyyana smiled, "Sure, that's okay. The most important thing is that I now know that Garret is often like this. Later, I will find a way to solve this issue." "I'm happy for you; you're so patient and gentle with Garret. You're the only one who can tame the little lion." Lyyana smiled upon hearing the head servant's words. "Oh, by the way, we haven't been introduced. My name is Amber, and yours?" "I'm Lyyana, Mrs." "Oh, don't call me Mrs. Just call me Amber like the others, even though I'm half a century old, I still feel young." Lyyana chuckled at Amber's words. "Oh, what are you up to?" Lyyana seemed to ponder for a moment. "May I borrow the kitchen?" Amber frowned upon hearing Lyyana's request. "I want to make a snack for Garret; I n
Lyyana just smiled in response to Amber's words, who continued to stare at her, puzzled and curious. "Come on, Lyyana, don't keep me in suspense.""Anyway, Garrett will like this food," Lyyana replied with a beaming smile.Amber sighed, finally giving in and assisting Lyyana, even though she was confused about what the new babysitter for Garrett was going to prepare. The kitchen, which was usually clean and untouched, now looked messy with various food ingredients and cooking utensils piled up in the dishwashing area. They had spent an hour searching, with Amber still not understanding Lyyana's cooking direction. Suddenly, a voice interrupted them, causing both of them to look up and observe Petra's activity with a flat and cold expression."What are you doing?" he said with a baritone voice, his eyes staring directly at Lyyana with a dirty apron.Lyyana and Amber instantly froze and exchanged glances. "Um, sir, we're just..." Amber paused, glancing at Lyyana for help."We're making a
"Please do your best for Garrett," Petra said, still with his head bowed.Lyyana was taken aback by Petra's words and husky tone. It took her even longer to process what Petra had said. "I'm sorry, sir, but I'm just a babysitter here. I mean... anyway, Garrett will need you in his growing process."Lyyana grimaced, regretting saying that out loud. She was surprised by her own words, which should have remained in her thoughts.Slowly, Petra lifted his head and looked at Lyyana expressionlessly. "I have to work," Petra replied flatly.Lyyana was again taken aback by Petra's response. "All parents are busy with work, sir. But they can still find time." Lyyana's spontaneous response made Petra stare at her sharply and piercingly, causing Lyyana to grimace under that gaze."I'm sorry, sir, I didn't mean to—""When is Garrett's therapy schedule?" Petra interr
Before Petra could respond to Lyyana's offer, Garret had already given her a piece of Lyyana's homemade snack on Petra's plate. Petra looked at Garret with a furrowed brow, observing a broad smile on Garret's face. There was no trace of fear in his eyes as usual; Garret appeared more relaxed and calm than Petra, who felt awkward in the situation. "Garret, eat a lot, I'll go over there," said Lyyana as she gently patted Garret's head. Garret nodded and returned to enjoying his food. Lyyana respectfully lowered her head towards Petra, and they exchanged glances. Lyyana then walked towards the kitchen, determined to prepare more healthy snacks for Garret, who had been consuming instant and packaged snacks that weren't conducive to his growth. "You're amazing, Lyyana!" praised Chava, approaching Lyyana. "Yeah, Lyyana. You're really cool!" added Milla, admiringly looking at Lyyana. Adelia, on the other hand, remained silent, gazing at Lyyana in awe. "You're exaggerating; I'm just doing
Petra finally relented, nodding and gesturing for Lyyana to sit in the seat next to her. Initially silent, Lyyana was pulled by Garret, forcing her to sit next to Petra who was driving the car.Throughout the journey, Garret kept a tight grip on Lyyana's hand as if unwilling to be separated from her. Occasionally, Petra glanced using the corner of her eye, observing Garret's interaction with the unfamiliar woman he had encountered a few days ago.Petra couldn't fathom how Garret, who was known for being difficult to be close to, suddenly became so clingy and obedient to Lyyana. What puzzled Petra even more was Garret calling Lyyana "mama." While Lyyana did resemble Garret's mother at a glance, Petra still found Garret's behavior strange."Sorry, sir," Lyyana broke Petra's reverie. The man glanced briefly, then resumed listening to Lyyana. "It seems we've missed the convenience store.""I wasn't going to the convenience store," Petra replied flatly.Lyyana furrowed her brow upon hearin
"Em, sorry, it looks like I need to visit another shelf," said Lyyana as the tension increased and Garret became more restless.Petra nodded and slightly shifted her body to give space for Lyyana to leave her place. However, her movement halted when she heard the comment of the attractive woman in front of her. "Why in such a hurry? Your style is so tacky, probably your parents didn't teach you how to dress trendy!"Lyyana took a deep breath, then turned back to face the woman. "What did you say? My style is tacky, and my parents didn't teach me? Maybe what you mean is my parents didn't teach me to dress provocatively like you?" Lyyana spoke candidly with a sharp gaze."I don't know you, and I don't think I need to. You can insult me all you want, even though I don't know who you are. But one thing you should remember, I don't like people like you insulting my parents, no matter how bad they were at educating me, it's none of your business."The attractive woman stared at Lyyana with
"Ahem!" The five women in the room straightened up and slowly turned their bodies to look at the figure of a man standing at the doorway. "Did I pay for you to gather and discuss here?" he asked with a cold aura. The four women shook their heads with bowed heads, not daring to look at the man. "Do you have tasks here?"Again, they could only shake their heads. "Adelia, Chava, take care of Garret. I'll talk to Lyyana.""Alright, Sir," Chava and Adelia replied simultaneously.Lyyana rose with a smile on her face. "Lyyana, forgive us, we should have -""It's okay. Mr. Petra is a good person and understands. I'll go first. Take care of Garret." Lyyana stepped out of the room with a smile, as if saying she was fine.Lyyana's footsteps headed towards Petra's office. Before knocking on the door, she took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. "Come in!" Petra shouted fro
