The shower was already running, steam filling the massive bathroom as I stood there in my borrowed sleep shirt, suddenly very aware that I’d just agreed to get naked with a man who’d admitted to killing someone an hour ago.

“What’s going on in your head?” Kegan asked, his back to me as he stepped under the spray.

“You just told me you killed someone.”

“And you said you were worried about my bruises.” He turned to face me, water running down his chest, over the dark marks on his ribs. “So either you meant it, or you’re having second thoughts.”

I pulled the shirt over my head before I could lose my nerve.

His eyes darkened as he watched me undress, tracking every movement like he was memorizing it. When I was finally standing there in nothing, he gestured for me to join him.

The water was hot—almost too hot—but Kegan pulled me under the spray with him, his hands immediately going to my waist.

“Turn around,” he said quietly.

I think the pacing is good. Your not rushing though it, but your also not dragging it out. I think it feels authentic.
