Chapter 41

Stepping out of the airplane was surreal. I was used to seeing the stars in the U. S, but this was a whole new level. They were flashing with so much light that it was like a million tiny moons. The crisp air whipped at my hair, but it was the smell that was mostly overwhelming. It smelled like fish mixed with a sickening sweet smell. I had never smelled that smell before, but it was like my body instantly knew what it was.

“Vampires.” I said in the mind-link. I was afraid to speak out loud as we quietly walked down the dock. There wasn’t a soul in sight. Only the waves made any sounds as it hit the rocks lining the land.

“Yeah. Our safe house is about a mile south.”

“Do you know where are you going?” I asked, slightly nervous.

“For the most part.” Jet sounded more sure than he felt, but I didn’t call him out on it.

Everything in my body told me to stay in the streetlights, but mentally I knew it wouldn’t matter. If we came across a vampire, a streetlight wasn’t going to save
