Chapter 103

Rage coursed through Natalie as she listened to this, but at the same time, she also had many questions.

"Why did Hugh insist you give birth to the baby?"

Susan still didn't dare to look Natalie in the eyes. Carefully, she answered, "Daphne was born with an underdeveloped uterus, and so her pregnancy was high-risk.

"The doctor had said that there was no guarantee that the baby in her belly could be safely brought to term, and even if it was successful, she'd very likely only have that one child her entire life.

"But Hugh wanted a boy. He was worried about something happening during the pregnancy or the birth, or if it was a girl, then that would be the end of his bloodline. And so, he set his sights on the child I was carrying as a way to increase his odds."

Natalie instantly understood. Basically, Hugh wanted a son. If Daphne could successfully deliver a baby boy, then that would be the best. If not, there was another baby in Susan's belly.
