Chapter 102

Author: Bodhi Blossom
Natalie turned to Susan, her eyes wide in shock and her expression frozen on her face.

That was when Daphne started screaming. "Lies! Who do you think you are? Why would he need to force himself on you? You were the one who seduced him, and now you're trying to shift the blame!"

Benjamin helped the frail Susan to her feet and led her toward Daphne. Her steadfast gaze concealed years of silent endurance as she defended, "Every word I've said is the truth. I've never seduced Hugh. He forced himself on me…"

That hit a nerve for Daphne. She raised a hand, ready to strike Susan, but this time, she didn't succeed. Natalie had stepped in front of her, intercepting it.

"Mrs. Spencer, that's enough," she warned coldly.

Then, she went to help Susan. Her voice instinctively softened as she said, "I'll take you to the hospital."

Tears welled up in Susan's eyes. She nodded, choking out a quiet grunt before the three of them walked right past Daphne and went out the door.

Natalie drove Sus

In private, Susan couldn't stop talking about Rowan with Bella. She told everyone who would listen what a great child he was and how cruel it was that he was simply gone. Poor Natalie must have hurt so much.Eventually, Bella and Benjamin managed to talk Susan into getting some rest, while they stayed behind in the hospital room, keeping vigil by Natalie's side.Bella set her plate down and sighed. "Natalie, I know you're hurting. But the dead can't come back to life, and the living have to keep going. "The Natalie I know is not someone so easily defeated by life, and you're not alone. You have us."Natalie frowned. She understood every word of that logic, but she couldn't just act like nothing had happened. The pain she now suffered was unlike anything she'd felt before.Bella exchanged a glance with Benjamin, who usually had a silver tongue but now found himself at a loss. When Jason betrayed Natalie, she'd been fueled by hate. It kept her standing, gave her a reason to plan r

For a moment, Natalie was at a loss. Landon was still talking, but to her, his voice was nothing more than a dull, distant hum.She sat frozen in that numb posture, unaware when the pouring rain outside had stopped. A shaft of sunlight fell across her face, but it couldn't reach the emptiness in her eyes.In a daze, she lifted her hand to her cheek. Her skin was cold, her muscles stiff, and her heartbeat so slow it felt like it might simply stop.It wasn't until Landon spoke again that she jolted back, though her expression remained hollow, and her eyes were lifeless like ashes waiting to be blown away.It turned out that Landon's capture had been part of their plan all along. The moment Magnus, Landon, and Rowan entered the Misty Woods, blind to its terrain, Rowan knew finding her quickly was nearly impossible. So, he'd baited Jason and lured him into exposing Natalie's location. While Landon was caught, Magnus and Rowan watched from the shadows and overheard Jason's men report

"Rowan…"Blood poured from Rowan's lips in mouthfuls as his eyes stayed fixated on Natalie, full of longing and love. But now, he had no strength left for words.Jason's gun was down to its last two bullets, both buried in Rowan's abdomen. He kept Rowan pinned, driving elbows into him again and again until Rowan's breath grew shallow.Natalie had never panicked so much or felt so helpless, not even when she discovered Jason's betrayal or lay on the cold operating table. Nothing compared to this despair."Rowan, Rowan…" She snatched up a branch from the ground and stumbled toward them, desperate to help Rowan.Realizing what she was doing, Rowan grew even more frantic. He was losing strength, and who knew what'd happen to her if Jason broke free?Suddenly, an idea flashed through his mind.Without a word, he clamped both arms around Jason and summoned every shred of strength left to drag him backward, step by step, deeper into the woods. Now, Natalie had no idea where they wer

Jason stood at the front of the group, a wicked smile playing on his lips as he applauded. He approached Natalie and Rowan, but the latter had already pulled her behind him.Jason sneered as he stopped several feet away from the couple. "Uncle Rowan, shouldn't you be waiting for death in the hospital instead of running into these woods to steal my woman? Your strength is admirable—that much I'll say."Rowan stood his ground, the air around him growing cold and tense. He was intimidating without trying to be, and for a moment, he didn't seem human. Instead, he was like a depthless, treacherous ocean. One didn't need to test him to know he was dangerous."I'll drag you into hell with me before I die," was all Rowan said.A contemptuous laugh escaped Jason. "Arrogant as ever, I see. I wonder where you get the nerve, Rowan. Your time's running out, yet you dare venture into these woods to challenge me. I'll show you how I plan to take your wife for myself. Shall I give you a live perfo

Natalie didn't know how long she'd been walking, only that she was tired and thirsty. The hot and humid weather was draining her faster than she'd expected.Exhausted, she slumped on the forest floor under dense foliage to catch her breath. She wondered how Rowan was coping, whether he was alive, and if she would have the chance to see him one last time. Her brows drew together, the thought of him making her rise to her feet once more. She didn't want to waste time moping in the woods.Natalie had heard that those who ventured into the Misty Woods didn't make it out alive. Thus far, she'd yet to come across any woodland terrors. But if Jason could come and go as he pleased, he must have figured out the mystery behind these woods and solved it. If there was a way out somehow, Natalie would have nothing to fear.Suddenly, Natalie felt a hostile gaze on her. The next second, a low, beastly roar tore through the air and reached her ears. The blood drained from her face.It was a wol

The group of men barged into the room to find the window broken and the woman on the bed missing. They didn't need to be geniuses to figure out that Natalie had escaped through the window.Panic set in, and someone pointed out frantically, "She escaped! Ms. Sutton actually escaped!"The man leading the group kicked the subordinate. "Do I look like I'm blind to you, asshole? I can see that she's escaped! What are you guys standing here for? Bring her back before Mr. Mattel returns!""Yes, sir!"The man swore aloud, "Damn it, if she escapes, we'll be dead! Go after her!"It wasn't long before they hurtled through the gaping hole in the window and ran down what they presumed was Natalie's escape route.About a minute later, Natalie crawled out from under the bed after she'd made sure the room was empty. She felt her way to the door and deliberately tossed a pebble into the corridor. When she didn't hear or sense anything in response, she mustered her courage and bolted out.She had
