Luca

She slid down the door after securing it with the lock. Her tears were flowing freely. She was feeling vulnerable. She had thought that he was different from his family members but he was just the same. She once again realized that no one in this world can love a poor and orphan person. Then how could she expect him to love her? She should not have. It was her mistake.

"Cali, please. I did not mean anything like that. Please open the door, give me a chance to speak. Please." He was softly knocking on the door as he knew that she was leaning against it. He could hear her muffled sobbing. He was really guilty. He did not want to yell at her but it was just the jealousy, yes, it was jealousy. He was jealous. She was his wife. How could he let her go to meet another man?

She did not respond nor did she open door. Only the sound of silent crying was heard. Now, he was feeling super guilty. He did not want her to cry. He wanted to comfort her. He wanted to say sorry to her. But he could do that if only she would open the door.

A bark resonated through the hallway and in no time, a heavy weight leaped onto her, licking her face. It was Luca, their beloved dog. Their sixty pounds weighing german shepherd was clearly unaware of his own weight and thought himself as a lap dog.

Soon enough, Cali's sour mood turned a bit good, seeing her baby trying to soothe her. He, for sure, always made her feel good. She chuckled at his behaviour and tried to get him off her as he was nearly straddling her. She wiped off the tears from her face and saw Mr. Carter, their butler, coming towards them.

"I am sorry Mrs. Hutton. He just would not listen to any of my commands when it comes to you." He said chuckling a bit. He was a nice person and always took care of Luca in their absence.

"It is okay, Mr. Carter. I do not mind. Besides, I love my baby so much and he loves me too. Right, Lu?" She said, talking to the dog who excitedly wagged his tail and lolled his tongue out while sitting down on his hind legs infront of her. She chuckled, "See." She scratched the dog behind his

ear and kissed his snout gently and he licked her nose in return, making her burst out in laughter. It was always like this. Whenever he was around, she never felt depressed. "Do not spoil him too much, Mrs. Cain. You have already spoiled him enough." It was Cain who spoke. And her sulking face came back. She stood up while holding Luca by his leash.

"Has he been to his morning walk?" She asked Mr. Carter. And he nodded. "Yes, Mrs. Hutton. I have taken him for his morning walk two hours ago." He informed her. "Alright. I am taking him to the park with me. I will be back in some fifteen to twenty minutes." She told the butler and he nodded again.

"Cali, wait. Open the door, will you? And I will join you for the walk. Okay?" Said Cain, trying his best to persuade his

stubborn wife. But she just ignored him again and started

walking away. But she stopped and turned around before

going out of the door.

"Oh, and one more thing Mr. Carter, open the door for Mr. Cain when I leave." She said to the butler and when he replied a yes, she went out of the house with Luca. After she was gone, the butler opened the door for him and he came out of the room in no time. He dashed out of the door to catch up with his upset wife.

Cali was walking fast with Luca matching her quick pace as she was holding him by the leash. She knew that Cain would surely come behind her and somewhere deep down, she wanted him to come. She wanted him to come and persuade her like a loving husband should. But she would never show that to him. She did not want to show him that she was needy. Needy for his attention and...love? Maybe. She shrugged the thought off her mind when she felt Luca tugging on his leash that was held by her, and decided to enjoy the moment. They both started walking even faster, literally jogging their way to the park. When they reached the park, she released Luca from his leash and he started running around excitedly and she just strolled around the park. Then, she threw a wooden stick in the air and asked him to fetch, which he did, enthusiastically. After playing for a while, she started

training him. Since he was only five months old, he was

needed to be trained. Cain had already taught him some

commands like to sit, stand and wait. Now, she was teaching him to start and stop barking at command. They

were enjoying there alone time there with no one to disturb them. After some training, she decided to check her watch and it was already quarter past nine. God! She lost the track of time. It was more than forty minutes now that she had come to the park. So, she decided to go back home with Luca.

"Come on, Lu. Let us go back. Come here." She said and

as the obedient dog he was, he obliged. She put the leash back around his harness and started walking. As they were about to leave, a bald man strolled in with his doberman, who looked vicious. He snarled at Luca as soon as he saw him. Luca was a five month old puppy but still he was a german shepherd with a lot of energy in him. He also let out a growl, though lower than the doberman. But Cali did not want her baby to get hurt so she pulled at his leash to stop him from fighting. However, all went in vain when the doberman tried to pounce at him and he, being the energetic goofball he was, he also pounced at the doberman. Good thing that the bald man prevented his vicious dog from attacking Luca by tugging at his leash and commanding him to sit. But, Cali on the other hand, could not control Luca as he pounced at the doberman. And the pull resulted Cali to fall. She fell down on the ground quite hard that had her left hand graze the coarse ground and her elbow got scratched. She let out a yelp in shock. Both the dogs had stopped their paws from fighting already. She looked at her injury. The skin on her elbow had been peeled off due to the friction and blood started gushing out of it. Suddenly, a pair of arms were around her and she looked up to see the face of her husband in front of her, his gaze fixed on her injury. She did not have the time to think about how and when he came to her rescue as he scooped her up in his arms and led her to the nearest bench and settled her down on it. He then brought a water bottle from the nearest store around the park and washed her wound clean. She winced when the water touched her wound as it burned so he sweetly blew some air on it to reduce the burning sensation. And she was looking intently at him. Who was this man? Was he the same overbearing Mr. Cain Hutton?

After cleaning up her wound, he stood up and held the dog's leash who was looking at both of them guiltily. Though it was not his fault, atleast not entirely. She wanted to cuddle him right then. But then looking at Cain's stern face, she refrained herself from doing so. He held his hand out for her to take. And she took it almost immediately, fearing that he would burst out anytime soon. He was angry, she could see that. His jaws were clenching and his eyes were serious. But why? She could not comprehend. And she did not dare to ask.

They were walking their way back home silently with no one saying a word. Even the ever energetic Luca was quiet now. Because he could sense the tension between them. When they reached home, he immediately took her inside their room and started treating her wound after bringing the first aid kit. She flinched when he applied the antiseptic liquid on it, making him flinch as well, and he blew air on it, a cute little frown was etched on his forehead. She would have laughed at his cuteness if she was not in this situation. After applying ointment on the wound, he started wrapping it with a band-aid. She was looking at him lovingly all the while. Was not she lucky that she got this man, all to herself? Though they fought a lot, but he still cared for her. Because this was him. Caring and

gentle from inside, no matter how hard and cold he showed himself from the outside.

"All done." He said bringing her back to reality. Her eyes snapped up to him and found him already looking at her, with something swirling in those deep ocean blue eyes that she could not decipher.

"I am sorry." He said making her forehead to crease in confusion. "Why?" She asked in a small voice. "Cali, I know that I was rude to you in the morning and I am sorry for that but please try to understand my side. I never meant it that way. I can never think of you like that. You are my wife." He said calmly and gently. "It is just that I get jealous when I see you around any other man because you are mine and I can't just sit back and let those men come near you. You know how possessive I am." He said in a low and dark tone.
