Chapter 6: Alpha, Beta, Omega

            Leo was not using his powers to eavesdrop between those two students at front but they are acting weird, definitely. Walking closer and closer towards them, he did not mean to do so, but it seems the guy at the back was confessing his love to the person in front of him that Leo got choked from his own saliva and he is sorry for ruining the moment.

            He advances quickly and avoids looking at them when his sixth sense is telling him that they are staring at him.

                                                                                                                                                

            At the school gate where students are pacing fast, within ten minutes, the class will start. Leo took his time and proceeded to Luke’s room, just to find out he was not there, so he asked his classmate.

            “Have you seen Luke?”

            “Ye-yes, h-he was here earlier but went out a-and I don’t know where he was.”

            Leo did not bother to reply but went straight to his twin brother's desk and neatly hung the blazer on his chair. The mixed looks of Luke's classmate on him were nothing new as it has always been like that and he does not need to explain why they rarely interact at the campus.

            It was exhausting for Leo to explain to every single person who asks him that and he does not know if Luke ever encounters those questions. He stood there, blankly, for a while and could smell a hint of omega pheromone on his brother's bag and when he opened it, it was circulating in there.

            “Haa. Don’t tell me he helped an omega in heat this time, again?”

            Leo sighs deeply but he would not pry on it any longer and just waits until Luke will tell him about it. Every step he takes in that room is a hitch of everyone’s breathing, he could literally hear them all sigh deeply at once when he walked out of the room.

            On to his respective room which is two doors after Luke’s, Leo saw his friends talking to one another and very into it that they did not notice him passed through them and sat on his chair which is on their side.

            “You know, I saw on the internet that from afar, our country, Vooke, looks like a sitting wolf. How uncannily it looks. As if it was handmade by the gods. What was it called again? Birds eye view?”

            “Yeah. It is called bird's eye view. A view seen from a high angle.”

            Hunter monotonously answers Rain but is listening to what he has to say next.

            “The Northern Mountains cover the wolf’s side profile like the ears and face. As it reaches down the East Mountains, it arcs when a wolf sits, you know. Like the back part.”

            “Uh-huh. Then how about the West Mountains? And the South?”

            Hunter asks so Rain would not sulk. Leo was there, looking back and forth between them.

            “West Mountains cover the wolf’s legs while the agricultural area is the butt part. Uhhh – the South Mountains is the tail and it detached itself from the main island but it gives such a nice illusion of a tail.”

            They continued their geographical discussion of Vooke but it was unbelievable how patient that alpha is, facing a chatterbox the whole morning.

            Hunter Jackson is an alpha but surprisingly, he did not become so worked out on the conversation they have as he can be very opinionated despite being a quiet person. That nonstop chatterbox is Rain Fitch, he is a beta and they have been Leo's human friends since primary school up until now.

            The two do not know that Leo's whole family are werewolves and he does not have any plans to tell them as it could endanger their lives and the lives of their loved ones. He just listens to them talk from one topic to the other.

            “Did you hear the rumors?”

            Rain asked Leo and Hunter that question but he shrugged his shoulders while the other just shook his head. The chatterbox cleared his throat and positioned himself well before proceeding with his talk.

            “SO! The rumor is about the newly made suppressants but it is in the human testing stage. As they said, it can for alphas since there were two levels of prescription for it while the omegas have three. It was a joint project by the government and some well-known organizations. Uhmm, I forgot what’s the name. But! The one who majorly handles it is the organization which is very suspicious.”

            “It is suspicious and that is why it’s called a rumor.”

            Hunter shut down Rain’s chattering which Leo laughed at, quietly, but all the poor beta could do was hit both alphas and upsettingly facing to the front. As the alpha at his back has a soft spot for him, Hunter was poking Rain's ticklish corners of his body until they were okay.

            How their unbelievable relationship works wonder to Leo because they are so opposite but they became the best of friends.

            “Opposites do attract.”

            Leo affirmingly said to himself as he turned his head to the window. As soon as the bell rang, he sat properly when he saw Luke walking past the room in the corner of his eye and Leo was not able to detect his scent.

            'But why? I mean, how can’t I catch his smell?' He noticed that his brother's mind was out on cloud nine when he took his time avoiding other students and was not even in a hurry to get back to his own room.  He was not wearing any blazer on and Leo could see his slim body beneath his uniform.

            “The two of you are really identical twins but you are so huge while he is so tiny. Although, you look good together when walking side by side from behind. You know, like a mate. An alpha and omega next to each other.”

            Rain blurted out and Leo stared at him in shock and was speechless while Hunter somehow nodded his head in silence. Good thing, the teacher did not arrive yet. Leo took that back, it was not really a good thing, after all, when Rain continued, explaining and was flustered.

            “I mean, when both of you happened to walk next to each other and we didn’t see your face but just your back, you know. You – I-I mean, he has a smooth white skin, small face, big puppy eyes with long eyelashes and a slender body, if only his straight black hair is longer then he can be mistaken as a woman from behind. A-and it somehow is like a couple walking next to each other because of your different body structure. But just saying since we haven’t seen both of you talk and walk next to each other since enrolling to this school.”

            “Just because we’re twins and we go to the same school doesn't mean that we need to come here together and force ourselves to interact with one another when we don’t want to. I respect his space and he respects mine. That’s all there is”

            Calmly told them the twin's side, Leo's and Luke’s, as he knows what they mean. People change for good or bad but everyone needs to acknowledge it and do not force themselves on those people. It will only hurt them. Leo sighs from his thoughts and his body slumps until he meets Hunter’s eyes at his right side.

            “You have something in your mind. What is it?”

            Hunter said in his usual low tone voice and the rarely seen emotions in his eyes. He was genuinely worried and wanted to help his friend. To lessen the burden, as they say, but Leo snorted.

            “I’m fine. It’s nothing serious.”

            Tapped him on his shoulder and all he could say was ‘okay’.

                                                                                                                                                

            The door rattled and the science teacher entered with his book and put it in his desk at the front then turned his back on his students when he wrote something on the board.

            “Take your books out, as well as your notes, and open it to page two fifty. We will discuss this.”

            Tapped the board on his back with ‘Secondary Gender: Alpha, Beta, and Omega’ and they did as they were told.

            “We will dive deeper with this topic than before. So, I asked everyone to be open-minded and to listen carefully.”

            He declared firmly his objective for that class before officially starting the class.

            “Without any further ado, we will tackle humanity’s secondary gender.”

                                                                                                                                                           

            What is secondary gender? Aside from being male and female, humans can be either alpha, beta or omega. Alphas are at the top of the hierarchy with twenty percent of the total population and excels at everything they do. May it be in academics, sports, skills, and even with luck.

            Majority of them took every important position within the country and contributed to its progress. They are taller and buffer in terms of physical characteristics and are over-protective, aggressive and dominant in terms of psychological attributes.

            Alphas have a muscle at the base of their member called knot, it will expand when in verge of climaxing during sexual intercourse with an omega, and could impregnate them outside omegas’ heat.

            Regardless of being a male or female, they do not get pregnant, and as for female alphas who do not have reproductive organs, they have retractable members, so they also do not have a womb.

            Betas comprise sixty-five percent of the total population who live ordinary and average life. They are neutral and have no pheromones, have weak sense of smell, and cannot sense nor be affected by pheromones nor their scent like alphas and omegas.

            Betas are majority smaller and weaker than alphas but taller and stronger than omegas. Regardless of being a male or female, betas can be impregnated by alphas but male betas will experience degrees of pain during knotting.

            Omegas are below the hierarchy with fifteen percent of the total population and rarely excel in academics and sports. They are submissive, weak, and have motherly-instincts to care for others.

            Omegas have uterus and ovaries, and can be impregnated regardless of being male or female. In terms of physical characteristics, they are shorter in stature, slender, wider hips and have smoother skin than female betas.

                                                                                                                                                           

            Leo sighed and scribbled within his notebook as he thought that that is just basics – the hierarchy, physical and psychological changes and differences. Nothing new but the teacher keeps writing important terminologies in the board between the three genders that Leo knew from previous years of studying secondary gender.

                                                                                                                                                           

            Children at the age of twelve, the compulsory secondary gender test is being done and it will take two weeks for the results to be released.

            The reason why it is needed to be done is because as early as the age of twelve, few of them start to show signs such as releasing pheromones and scents, being dominant, neutral, or submissive, and the gradual body changes.

            It is to prepare them from such changes and how to control them while avoiding unwanted accidents.

            At the age of fourteen to sixteen, omegas will experience heat, a monthly intense sexual arousal that releases pheromones to attract alphas for a reason to find a mate. During that period, omegas are capable of working and doing their daily activities but they easily get irritated that goes with the high fever.

            They have difficulty in breathing and secrete slick to lubricate them during those times in the month. It can be regulated by drinking heat suppressants which can lessen its intensity or stop the heat that month. It has two forms, the pill for maintenance while the injection for emergency but it isn’t recommended to consume on omega’s first heat.

            Around those age, alphas will also experience rut, an intense sexual arousal that comes once every two months and can also be activated when they are affected by omega’s pheromones. However, it can be regulated with rut suppressants – pills or injections. It can make them cool down and less aggressive.

            During omega’s heat, they stay indoors as they are vulnerable and easily influenced by their instinct of being mated and they have higher probability to be impregnated. That is why some of them wear neck protectors for unwanted marking with a stranger.

            Marking happens when alpha bites omega’s nape during his or her heat. The bond is unbreakable and irreversible. When marking is done, the alpha and omega become mated pairs that merge their scent together.

            It is to ward off other unmated alphas from his or her omega and it can greatly help the omega during their heat because they will look for their mated alpha rather than following other alphas’ scent. Alphas also do not react to other omegas’ pheromones and scent.

            There is a study done that misdiagnoses of secondary gender happens one out of fifty thousand children. More often towards alphas turning to omega than the other way round –

                                                                                                                                                           

            Stopped from the scribbling and closed the notebook, as the topic piqued Leo's interest and he started to attentively listen to the teacher but a faint voice whispered to his ears.

            “It could happen to him.”
