Chapter Four.

He was standing outside her house.

She tied her hair in a ponytail and took a look at her room, everything was decent.

Was it okay to invite him up to her room? She hoped he wouldn’t get any silly ideas.

She had no idea how this was going to work. Was he a good writer?

Or was he even a writer?

She didn’t want to mess this up.

Her mother had opened the door.

She could hear her talking to him, what was she supposed to do?

Go downstairs and greet him?

She should, these are basic manners.

With this last thought, she opened her bedroom door and made her way downstairs. He was standing in the hallway, talking to her mother.

Damn, he’s tall.

She thought once again as she saw him standing next to her mother.

He was telling her about the project and all.

“Hey.” She spoke, walking towards her mother to stand beside her.

“Oh, hey.” He nodded but didn’t smile. She wondered if he would ever smile.

And of course, his eyes were still invisible.

“Mom, we’re going to go work now, okay?” Her mom nodded.

“Okay, children. Work hard.”

She led him to her room.

“I hope it’s okay for you to work here,” she said once she had let him inside the room. He nodded.

“Anything will work for me.”

“Great, so the first question.” She sat down beside him; they were sitting on her study table. He looked at her, expectantly she hoped as she couldn’t read the expressions in his eyes.

“Can you write?” She asked.

“Of course, I learned how to write when I was three.” He stated. Lillian shut her eyes and stifled a groan.

“I meant can you write, as in are you a writer?” She asked again trying to stay calm.

“I knew what you meant, and yes, I am. I can write, you shouldn’t worry about that.”

“Great, so let’s discuss the genre, plot, and everything before we start writing.”

“Okay, what do you think the genre should be?” He asked.

“I’m not sure about that and that’s where I need your help.”

He raised his hand and she saw it travel to his hair.

Finally.

She thought, but to her disappointment, he just ruffled his hair causing them to completely hide his eyes.

“Can you see?” She asked, giving up completely on trying to control herself.

“Of course.” He replied. “Well, in my opinion, a romantic tragedy seems like the best option.”

Oh, wow.

A romantic tragedy just like her life.

How ironic.

“Great. Now the plot.” she didn't want to disagree, she just wanted to complete this project.

They spent the next three hours working on the plot and at the end of the day, they both were exhausted.

“Do you want to eat something?” She asked, he was a decent guy she had decided.

He shook his head.

“Let’s grab something instead.” He suggested and to her surprise she found herself nodding.

“Sure, let’s go.” She was hungry, and she wanted fast food and she didn’t want to go alone.

Because it was night and she didn’t want to walk alone at night.

And so, they ended up sitting opposite to each other in a Diner, eating burgers and fries.

“You have a good imagination,” He remarked. She smiled.

“Thanks.”

“So, what’s your story, Lillian?” He asked out of nowhere. She looked up at him and raised her eyebrows.

“What story?” She asked.

“You seem like a mystery that nobody had solved yet, so what’s your story?”

“There’s no story.” She lied.

“I’m curious, maybe I’ll find it out myself, but I hope you confide in me. Because we all need someone. With whom we can share our pains, our experiences, and our feelings.”

“It doesn’t matter whatever my story is, I’m right here, alive and well.”

He nodded but she could feel that he was looking at her. But she decided to ignore that.

How could he possibly know something was wrong with her?

He thought she was a mystery, but he seemed like a greater mystery in which she had no interest in solving. But she wanted to see him try and solve her.

She knew he couldn’t.

*

She started talking to Jace at the start of her junior year, over text. He was the one who sent her a DM on I*******m. He was a senior then; she had been over the moon when she had received his DM. He was the most popular guy in their High School.

They had started talking on I*******m, but she wasn’t sure if he would talk to her in school. But she had started liking him, he seemed like a great guy, and it was surprising how he managed to guess her mood over texts. And she loved that about him.

And it was just another day when she decided to talk to him in school. She went up to him and said Hi, he seemed confused and surprised.

But one thing led to another, and a couple of months later he asked her to be his girlfriend.

He was not like what he was over texts and sometimes she wondered if he had two personalities, one which he showed in person and one which he showed over texts.

But whatever it was, he was the sweetest guy ever, he cared for her and loved her.

And they were happy.

Until they couldn’t be happy anymore.

Until she couldn’t see him anymore.

Until she lost him.

Until she lost herself.

Probably forever.
