Chapter 1

The video looped over and over again. Seeing how the facts had been twisted made me laugh in anger.

I didn't distribute any gifts for the holidays because I always took my employees on overseas trips during the holidays and even covered all the expenses.

Even if an employee asked to opt out, I'd still convert the full cost of the trip into a bonus and give it to them.

And I decided not to do performance evaluations because I didn't want to stress them out. We were just a small company, so we didn't make that much profit annually.

Besides, I didn't count on them to make a killing. And every employee's salary was more than double the local average.

I never expected they would see my lenient policies as exploitation.

Well, if that was how they saw it, then there was no need for me to be so kind anymore.

Since they liked performance evaluations and wanted the company to operate like other companies, I might as well give them exactly what they wanted.

I immediately drafted a brand-new company policy handbook and had my assistant, Jacob Merritt, distribute it.

As soon as Jacob sent it out, gasps of disbelief came from outside my office. "What? We're only getting a day off for Christmas this year? And no free vacation anymore?"

"We have performance evaluations starting today?"

"We can't bring our pets to the office anymore?"

An employee barged into my office immediately. "Mr. Pearson, are the new company policies Jacob just sent out real?"

Then a second and third person rushed in. "Yeah, Mr. Pearson. It isn't even April Fool's today. Are you pranking us?"

I looked at them, making sure to scan every single face. Anyone in this room could be the one trashing me online.

I clenched my fists. "It's not a prank. Starting today, our company is going to model itself after other corporations. Everyone should have no objections, right?"

For a moment, my office went dead silent. Some people looked conflicted, others stayed silent, but ultimately, none of them could change my decision.

Barely a moment later, that account made another post. "I have no idea what set my dumb boss off, but he suddenly canceled our days off and free vacations.

"We work our butts off all year for peanuts and still get treated like cattle. Now he wants to cancel our 30 days of annual leave? How are we bottom-feeders supposed to live? Is he trying to drive us to our deaths? Just wait. Once I get dirt on him, I'm going to ruin him."

Moments after the post went up, several comments appeared. "Seriously? How can there be such a horrible boss? And I thought the one I dealt with was bad."

"Bestie, you should collect the evidence and take him down!"

"People like him need to be taught a lesson. Does he think we're as uneducated and helpless as people from the older generations? How dare he cut your annual leave? You can sue him under the labor law at any time. By then, his company won't even survive."

Amidst the sea of condemnation, there were a handful of voices that dared to differ.

"Am I the only one who thinks the original poster is a bit off? How is 30 days of annual leave a bad thing? Most companies don't give nearly as much as that.

"Normally, getting ten days is already considered a good thing. And didn't this person's last post say there were no holiday benefits? So why are there suddenly free vacations being mentioned?"

"Are they just making stuff up?"

"I think so too. Is there even a company that doesn't do performance evaluations nowadays? If what the original poster says is true, then there's no work pressure, full salary is paid regularly, plus they get annual leave and even free vacations. And yet they're still complaining? Unbelievable."

As soon as those comments were posted, dozens of insults followed.

"Are you serious? Have you been bending over backward for so long that you can't stand up straight anymore?"

"This is my first time seeing someone sympathize with a capitalist. I'm speechless. Is the capitalist your dad or what?"

"How pathetic can you be?"

The paint that had been splashed all over the entrance of the company was washed away, and a new signboard was put up.The office returned to its former calm and order. Since most of the employees involved in the drama were fired, we started recruiting new blood. On recruitment day, I was conducting the interviews personally when a familiar face appeared. "Hello, Mr. Pearson. This is my résumé."I looked at the lady in front of me. Wasn't this Joanna's best friend who came to see her before? When I saw the name "Glenda Woodard" on the résumé, a thought struck me.Glenda smiled at me. "Mr. Pearson, I've heard a lot about you. I've wanted to join your company for a long time, but there were no openings before. Now that there are, I finally have the chance to come here. I know a bit of everything, so I hope you'll seriously consider me."I said, "We can exchange contact info for now. You should go back and wait for further notice."Her eyes lit up. She tapped her screen, and a famil

"Unbelievable. How can anyone be this ungrateful? The employees brought this on themselves! First, they thought that their boss was shortchanging them."And when they couldn't survive on performance-based pay, they went around trying to get people to drag the company and their boss through the mud.""Oh, right, I think we've been missing a key point here. The company's operations actually comply with regulations, just like any other company. We were totally misled.""So this is entitlement in its purest form. I didn't know people could be this stupid and nasty.""This is hilarious. Thinking that she was a founding member of the company, she complained that seven thousand dollars was too low and assumed her boss was shortchanging her."So she demanded performance-based pay, only to end up making less than 4,500 dollars now that it was actually implemented. What a piece of work."Even the police looked awkward right then. The other employees looked at each other, and one exclaimed,

As I scanned the room, I said in a loud voice, "Let me reiterate this one more time—I have never exploited my employees. What I said in that interview was the truth."Until a month ago, our company had extremely loose policies. There was no need to clock in, no performance evaluations, and I gave every employee a comprehensive work experience."Not only that, out of consideration for their hard work, I gave out monthly subsidies and bonuses. Every employee had a minimum salary of 6,500 dollars."During holidays, there were free company-paid vacations, and they were all-expenses-paid trips. We also provided free drinks and lunches to make it more convenient for the employees. And the annual leave they got was a full 30 days."As soon as I finished, the crowd erupted into an uproar.I looked at my employees. "So why didn't any of you mention this?""Wow, are those amazing benefits for real? Aren't the employees way too ungrateful?""Who knows if there's a catch? Let's hear them ou

Inside the interrogation room, a police officer stared at me sternly. "Rumor has it you exploit your employees. Is that true?""No."He looked tense as he said, "I'll give you one more chance. Setting unreasonable company policies and rules violates the labor laws and carries severe penalties. So, is it true or not?"I replied firmly, "It's not."The officer abruptly stood up and slammed his hand on the table. "Confess, and you'll be treated leniently. Resist, and you'll be punished severely. Don't say I didn't warn you.""It's not true."I felt inexplicably irritated that I even had to repeat myself three times. The officer smirked. "It's not true, eh? Fine. Then why don't we see what your employees have to say?"Grabbing me by my collar, he dragged me to the door. As soon as the door opened, several familiar faces came into view. It was the majority of the company staff, including Joanna."Go on, tell us. What are the company conditions like?"They exchanged glances, and Jo

I had already gotten evidence of the employees who had spread rumors about me online and hired trolls to smear the company. On top of that, surveillance footage clearly captured them plotting in the meeting room. Even the audio was crisp."Then we'll get the media to expose him and make posts online to ruin his reputation. Let's see how he can keep his company running by then…"The crowd went quiet for a split second. The reporters exchanged glances before one of them spoke up. "Are you saying your own employees are deliberately trying to damage you and the company's reputation behind the scenes?"I scoffed. "Isn't the video clear enough?"I fixed a cold stare on the onlookers who were enjoying the spectacle.Suddenly, someone in the crowd yelled, "As if! Who would believe that? Anyone who sympathizes with a capitalist these days is a total moron!"If you weren't exploiting and sucking the life out of your employees in your company, why would they resent you this much? It's no

I picked up my phone to check. Sure enough, there was a new post from that account."All my dumb boss does is exploit me. He can't even manage a simple pay raise. And he just uses poor company performance as an excuse to brush me off."He can only blame himself for his poor management. I only get seven thousand dollars. Does he think we're supposed to slave away for him?"Some of the replies below tried to talk some sense into the original poster. "OP, I just have to ask. How good are you at your work?"With such a laid-back company culture, seven thousand dollars is already on the high side. Besides, isn't your pay based on performance now? Isn't that exactly what you asked for? You can show your capability in the coming month.""The OP is just ungrateful.""People like this are the cancer of the company."The original poster replied, "What do you mean by cancer? I'm not the only one in the company who's unhappy. There are plenty of others who are dissatisfied. They just haven'
