Chapter 5

Penulis: H. Spoonie
Violette and I had not fully recovered.

We were wrapped in bandages and finally made it back to Crimsonmoon's territory.

Our mother cried, her heart aching.

Our father stared at the bandages on us, a suppressed growl rumbling in his throat.

Three days later, after we had calmed our parents down, I finally picked up the phone I had forgotten about.

37 missed calls notifications flashed across the screen.

When I called back, Kane's roar nearly burst my eardrums.

"Stop messing around! If I hadn't come back to pick up a gift for Lyris's baby, I wouldn't even know you ran off with my kid again!"

His voice turned violent.

"Violette too! Adrian still can't reach her. Did you turn her against him? What's wrong with you, Selena? Are you proud of yourself for nearly cutting off an alpha and his mate, his Luna's Mate-Link? Is that what you wanted?!"

Violette suddenly snatched the phone from my hand.

"Marrying into your family was the worst mistake of my life! Listen carefully, Kane. No one turned us against you! We're rejecting you because neither of you deserves to be our mates!"

She hung up, and we blocked every contact point with them.

"Don't let trash like him hurt you anymore, Violette," I tried to comfort her.

Thankfully, on the fourth day, the Alpha King's seal appeared right where our mate-marks used to be—hot, glowing lines at the back of our necks.

The burning symbol confirmed that the bond had officially been broken.

We returned to Duskhaven to collect what was left of our children's belongings.

As we reached the house we used to share with the brothers, we found Lyris standing outside.

She was holding her baby, eyes red, playing victim. She looked like one soft breeze could blow her over.

She fell to her knees and spoke in a pitiful voice when she saw us.

"Selena, Violette, I'm sorry. I'm here to apologize on behalf of my brothers. It's all my fault that you misunderstood them. Don't blame Adrian and Kane. They were just worried about me, being a single mom and all.

"I was afraid of being alone at the hospital. That's why they stayed with me. I thought they already told you. I told them to! I really did!"

She kept playing the victim in front of us, flaunting how close they were.

We sounded like nothing but outsiders to the brothers, like we were never their mates to begin with.

Violette was about to slap Lyris in the face, but I stepped in front of her.

I tilted my head, looked down at Lyris, and said coldly, "Is that so? Do we need your permission to reject our mates, Ms. Lyris? Save your pity act. That stuff doesn't work on us."

Seeing the baby in her arms, I sighed and reached out to help her up, but the moment she heard the door open behind us, her eyes flickered.

Then, she suddenly collapsed to the ground, like I had just pushed her.

I froze.

Right then, Kane stormed out and shoved me hard, his face twisted with rage.

"Selena, how can you be so cruel?! Get away from her!"

I lost my balance and hit the ground hard.

Violette rushed to help me up.

"Lyris! Are you okay?" Kane asked, kneeling beside her.

Adrian came right after, checked that Lyris and the baby were unharmed.

Adrian then turned to us, ready to explode, but when his eyes landed on Violette's flat stomach, his face froze.

His voice trembled.

"The baby… Where is the baby, Violette?!"

  • Our Shared Betrayal   Chapter 11

While we kept track of the search for Lyris, Violette and I also helped our parents manage Crimsonmoon's daily affairs. One day, after wrapping up a long meeting, we decided to head home by car. We had just pulled up to a red light at an intersection when a red Maserati came speeding straight at us.The car came fast, swerving through traffic. As it got closer, I saw the driver clearly. It was Lyris. She had never left Crimsonmoon. She had been hiding right under our noses this entire time. It was no wonder the Alpha King's soldiers could not find her.She looked like a monster behind the wheels. At that range, dodging could be dangerous.I grabbed Violette's hand, ready to jump out only when I was sure Lyris had no more time to react.Bang!Another car came out of nowhere and slammed into Lyris's vehicle, throwing it off course just in time."Violette! Are you okay?"Violette looked shaken, but she nodded slowly, eyes fixed on the crash as she whispered, "Selena… I think

  • Our Shared Betrayal   Chapter 10

We ignored those foolish brothers and followed the Alpha King's soldiers to escort the rogues back to Crimsonmoon. We sent two soldiers after Lyris. We had already guessed she would try to sneak out in disguise. As expected, the moment she stepped outside the Duskhaven, our people caught her.At the same time, someone had filmed part of what happened when Kane was beating the rogues. The video got edited and posted online. The editing was sharp and made the whole story crystal clear—from the kidnapping to Lyris' betrayal. The entire kingdom knew how the Alphas and Betas of Duskhaven had practically welcomed a snake into their home. Adrian looked like the biggest fool of them all—letting a criminal walk away right under his nose.People in Duskhaven were furious. Many demanded Adrian step down. They said someone that stupid had no right to lead Duskhaven.Adrian watched the video and exploded with rage. He had not believed it at first, but faced with the truth laid bare, he broke.

  • Our Shared Betrayal   Chapter 9

Outside the crowd, Lyris sat on the ground, holding her baby. Her face went pale as she muttered, "It's over… Everything's over…"Kane noticed her right away. He pushed past the crowd and dropped the nearly unconscious rogues. He stormed up to her, grabbed her by the collar, and stared at her in agony."Why?" he asked through gritted teeth."Did I ever treat you badly? Why would you go after my mate and child?"Lyris tried to break free, but she eventually stopped. Her fear slowly faded, replaced by bitterness as she snapped, "You think you did nothing wrong?"Why is it that the moment I left Duskhaven, you became Alphas? Got rich? Got everything you ever wanted?"Why did your mates get love and comfort, but I was stuck with a man who beat me? My mate never cared about my baby, so why do you get to love yours?"I just wanted a better life. Is that so wrong?"Kane stared at her like she was a stranger."You're not the person I thought you were. You've completely lost it."Jus

  • Our Shared Betrayal   Chapter 8

After we left the Duskhaven Pack, I took Violette to the beach for a vacation. We visited all the places we had once wanted to see but could not because of her status as Luna. After talking to our parents, they fully supported us taking a break to clear our minds. As we traveled, we slowly felt better. We even found a well-known psychic and asked her to connect with the souls of our children. The psychic told us that our children did not hate us. They were playing happily in heaven. If fate allowed, they might even return to us once again as our children.Hearing that, Violette and I held each other and cried our hearts out. After that, we returned home, finally relaxed. That night, we slept peacefully for the first time in a long while. Our mood lightened immediately. The next day, the Alpha King sent word that his people had caught the rogues who escaped back then.Somehow, Kane and Adrian found out and blocked the soldiers from taking them away. That meant Violette and I migh

  • Our Shared Betrayal   Chapter 7

Kane completely broke down.Lyris ran to him and tried to hug him, but he shoved her so hard she fell to the floor.Shock flashed across her face. It was the first time she had ever been pushed away like that.I ignored her and walked up to Adrian, stopping right in front of him and spat coldly, "You should've already gotten the Alpha King's investigation request."He's finished looking into everything. I heard you stopped his men when they came to arrest one of the accomplices the other day."Guess which kidnapping that accomplice was involved in?"Adrian and Kane finally started to connect the dots.Their eyes sharpened and turned on Lyris, full of rising fury.Lyris cried, "No! It wasn't me!"I was just walking in the garden that day. I didn't even see Selena or the baby! I had no idea about any kidnapping!"Whenever she cried like that previously, the brothers would rush to protect her, eager to believe every word. However, they stood still. They stared at her with compl

  • Our Shared Betrayal   Chapter 6

Violette was silent. She stood still as Adrian shook her, panic rising in his voice. Her face was pale, just like when she got stabbed in the stomach. The same face she had when the life inside her slowly slipped away. The rage swallowed me whole. If only Adrian had tried to connect to the Mind-Link, listened to Violette and sent the healer, the baby would still be alive.I looked at their faces—full of false shock and guilt—and it made me sick."Yes. The baby is gone," I said coldly."Not just Violette's. Your six-month-old nephew is dead too. We told you, but you never listened."Adrian staggered back, his face turned white with disbelief as he whispered,"Are the babies gone?" he whispered. Then, as if the truth had finally landed, he exploded."You were the Luna! You killed our child just to spite me? Are you insane?! You murdered my heir! I swear I'll—"A bitter smile crept across my lips as I turned to Kane."Blame Kane and yourself. You launched an attack on the no
