Violette was silent. She stood still as Adrian shook her, panic rising in his voice.

Her face was pale, just like when she got stabbed in the stomach.

The same face she had when the life inside her slowly slipped away.

The rage swallowed me whole.

If only Adrian had tried to connect to the Mind-Link, listened to Violette and sent the healer, the baby would still be alive.

I looked at their faces—full of false shock and guilt—and it made me sick.
