Chapter 2

Penulis: Lexie L
The next day, I left the villa with the suitcase I had brought with me.

In the airport lounge, I turned on my phone and saw a photo Isabella had posted from the amusement park.

In the picture, Lucas had his arm around her shoulders, and Finn was holding her hand.

The caption read, "There will always be someone who feels happy about your arrival!"

Finn was grinning as he hugged a pile of junk food with zero nutritional value.

I remembered that when I was with pup for the first time, the healer had warned me that I wasn't suited for pregnancy. My body would become extremely weak during the process, unable to sustain the pup's nutrition.

But I loved Lucas too much, and I dreamed of having a pup that belonged to both of us.

So, unsurprisingly, I had a difficult labor when I gave birth.

Of course, Lucas wasn't there for me. I struggled alone in the operating room before Finn was safely born.

After that, I became extra attentive to his health, worried that my weak body had affected him. I carefully planned all his meals and strictly kept him on his training schedule.

But none of that could compare to Isabella buying him ice cream and the latest toys.

If they were the ones who truly looked like a family, then so be it.

I called a friend I hadn't spoken to in a while.

"Is that teaching position at the prestigious school you mentioned still open for interviews? I think I'm finally ready to leave the Moonhowl pack."

Back at Lucas' villa, Sophia, who was cleaning the house, found the document I'd left behind.

It was an application to break the mate bond, addressed to the pack council.

I had no desire to confront Lucas face-to-face about this anymore, and that paper was my notification to him.

Sophia was shocked and hurried to report to Lucas, who was helping Finn pack.

"Your vacation's over, Finn. It's time to go back to school."

Finn looked devastated, sitting on the floor with teary eyes.

"I don't want to go back! If I do, I'll have to see that annoying mom again! I won't get to see Isabella every day!"

Lucas picked him up. "Who said that? Isabella's coming back with us."

Finn immediately broke into a smile. "Really? You mean it?"

He rubbed his cheek against Lucas's neck affectionately. "Dad, I want Isabella to become my mom. When can she become my mom?"

Lucas froze for a few seconds. Then, for the first time in forever, a smile crept onto his usually stern face. "If that's what you want, it'll happen very soon."

Sophia shook her head as she watched them and quickly stepped forward. "Alpha Lucas, Luna Claire left this. You—"

"She was here?" Lucas' expression darkened immediately.

Sophia swallowed. "Luna Claire came yesterday and left early this morning. She didn't look very happy, and she left this."

She rushed through her words as fast as she could, watching Lucas's expression carefully.

But even just hearing my name made him visibly irritated.

Now completely ignoring Sophia, Lucas turned away with Finn. Sophia had no choice but to pack the application into their luggage.

Naturally, I didn't know any of this, nor did I care anymore. Whether Lucas signed the application or not wouldn't stop me from walking away.

I returned to the pack and quickly packed everything up, taking all the money Lucas had been transferring me each month without hesitation.

Before, I never touched a dime of it. I used the money I earned myself to buy things for him and Finn.

Now that I was taking it back, I didn't feel guilty about it at all.

I had already sent my résumé to that prestigious school in the Stormcrest pack, and my abortion surgery was scheduled for a few days later.

Only then did it finally feel real, as though I was starting to cut everything off.

I didn't go back to my own house with my suitcase. That place hadn't felt like my home ever since Isabella arrived.

Isabella was actually my father's illegitimate daughter.

He had an affair with his secretary and had her. Then, he brought her home and declared she would be his official heiress.

My mother couldn't bear the betrayal of her mate. She fell ill shortly after and passed away within a year.

From then on, my father openly gave Isabella the best of everything.

Even when he found out Lucas and I were fated mates, he still shamelessly tried to set her up with him.

Things only calmed down when Isabella chose to mate with an Alpha from a larger pack.

That night, Lucas got drunk after hearing the news. We spent a wild night together, and he kept calling Isabella's name.

And then, I became with pup.

"It was all a mistake from the start," said my wolf in my head.

She was right—this was all one big mistake.

In a few days, I would set everything right.

I drove to a hotel and checked in.

Meanwhile, Lucas and Finn had returned to the Moonhowl pack.

They looked around the obviously emptier villa and didn't react, completely unaware that I was gone.

They were still happily planning Isabella's birthday, which was the day after tomorrow.

Ethan's sudden appearance threw me into turmoil. It seemed the Moon Goddess had given me another challenge.Even though I really liked Theo and didn't dislike Ethan, I wasn't remotely ready to enter a new relationship.I still held on to old habits, such as waking up in the middle of the night to check if Finn had called me, only to remember that I had left my family behind. I didn't need to worry about that anymore. In moments like these, I'd recall the seven years of misguided devotion and foolish decisions.I wasn't sure I even had the ability to love someone again.Thankfully, Ethan fully respected my feelings, even though he was now the most noble wolf in the entire Pack Alliance. After that lighthearted remark he made that day, he never brought anything up again. He just started visiting Theo at school often. There was also someone else who always showed up at the school gate—Lucas.Evidently, he didn't care about the two-month evaluation period. Or maybe, at this point,

"What the fuck are you doing here?" Lucas snarled, looking even more confused than I was."Lucas, we can still go back to how things were, right? I'm already pregnant with your pup. I'll definitely give birth to an outstanding heir," Isabella said.Isabella looked completely unhinged. The clothes she wore were tattered, and the hair she used to obsess over hadn't been brushed in a long time. It was just a wild, matted mess.It was the first time I'd seen her in such a pitiful state. From the day she stepped into our home, my father gave her the best of everything—a spot at the nobles' academy, expensive beauty treatments, designer clothes, and bags.Every time the two of us went out, people instinctively assumed I was the lowly Omega."I've said it before. I have nothing to do with you or your pup," Lucas said coldly.Just moments ago, Lucas had been begging me. Now, he seemed to have regained his Alpha composure. With a cold, emotionless face, he signaled to the people behind

I never expected that Lucas's way of making me regret would be disrupting my professor appointment ceremony. This wasn't something a decent Alpha should do.A few days ago, I was promoted to professor of Combat Theory due to my outstanding performance. At the ceremony, Lucas suddenly showed up with Finn in his arms."Claire's name hasn't been removed from the Moonhowl pack registry. I'm sorry, but she can't hold a position in the Stormcrest pack," he said confidently, holding some documents. Before I left, I specifically asked the school's administration about this—there was no rule barring members from other packs from working here."Lucas, you're absolutely ridiculous right now," I said coldly. The man standing in front of me looked worn out, as though he was holding himself together with nothing but fury.He held no composure that an Alpha should have.It was evident he decided to use this pathetic excuse to force me to go back."I'm your Alpha mate. I have the right to de

A month passed, and Lucas and Finn still hadn't gotten used to life without me.Lucas had grown used to the coffee I made. Without that familiar taste, he felt constantly irritated.Finn wasn't doing much better—his schoolwork and training were a complete mess, and he couldn't get anything right."I got third place, Dad." Finn sighed as he looked at the rankings from the combat competition."If Mom were here, I definitely would've gotten first."Lucas didn't have the patience to comfort him. The pack members had never stopped searching, but they still couldn't find any trace of me.After all, the Stormcrest pack was the most powerful pack in the Alliance. They had the means to protect the privacy of every teacher at their school. So, the two of them had no choice but to head to the award ceremony for the combat competition, held at the Stormcrest pack's largest arena. The ceremony ended in silence, and when Finn stood up, he suddenly caught a familiar scent. After turning his

In the surveillance footage sent by the Beta, Lucas saw me walk into the office, then come out with reddened eyes and throw a document into the trash."What was that?"His sudden question startled the Bets, especially since Lucas's wolf was so agitated. It could burst out and tear everyone apart at any moment. The Beta tried hard to recall. "Ah! The document had the pack hospital's logo on it."Lucas' eyes widened. It was a pregnancy report. That was the "surprise"."Damn it! Damn it!"He nearly crushed the desk, his pupils flashing bright red.The footage kept playing. He saw Isabella walk out of the office. She noticed the document in the trash and picked it up, taking it with her after glancing at it.Lucas felt the blood in his entire body begin to boil."That bitch knew Claire was pregnant all along! She did it on purpose!"It was all her fault! If not for her, I would never have left! With that thought, he rushed back to the villa, seeing Isabella walking out holding

Lucas felt a little unsettled on the way back from the hospital. He kept replaying the look in my eyes and the expression on my face.He picked up his phone and told the hospital staff to take good care of me, finally easing his mind a bit. However, his wolf was still restless and uneasy. When he got home, Isabella was with Finn, eating junk food while playing video games. He frowned slightly. At this rate, Finn would never grow up to be a proper heir of the Alpha."Dad, is Mom okay?" For once, Finn sounded worried. "Mom's wolf is really strong, right? She'll be better soon, right? I need her to help me finish my school project.""She's fine," Lucas answered coldly, though his eyes were fixed on Isabella."She promised not to accuse you, but you really shouldn't have done that to her. We lost our pup," he said."You're still mad at me? I didn't know she was with pup! I thought her wolf would protect her. I was just getting back at her for you—she was on a date with another man
