LOGINWe entered the building and checked in with security. They patted us down and ran us through a metal detector. We were ushered into the marvelous and of course extravagant ball room decorated In black and gold. To say the dance floor was large would be an understatement. It was enormous. Servers were walking amongst the mingling guests, handing out appetizers and drinks.
“Ah! The Grey’s. Such a pleasure to see you all again!” Fernando spoke loudly as he threw his hands in the air. He hugged my father, and kissed mine, and my mother’s hands. Fernando Garcia was the leader of the Mexican Mafia. He was a very flamboyant man, never a hair out of place. He was around 5’7, very tan skin, and a neatly trimmed beard. His Spanish accent was thick, but his English was perfect. “Allegra baby, stunning as always” He said in his gay voice. “Thank you Fernando, this place looks unreal.” I motioned to the ballroom. “Why thank you my dear.” He laughed. “We are doing things a bit differently this year. We decided to actually do some good for the community, and hold an auction for the Children’s Cancer Research of America. You’ll participate, no?” He lowers his glasses and winks at Dad. “ooh dear, I’m afraid I can't, but Al..ice should” I started, shoving Alice to his front. “Ooh it wasn't a question sweetheart.” he smiled but meant it. “But Dad..” I looked at him worried, he just nodded and shrugged and before saying anything he pulled aside Fernando for a private chat, I knew he was already doing his part of the bargain to form alliances. “Mom…?” I turned to her realizing I was holding my breath. “Don't be dramatic now, you'll be fine.” She said tucking a piece of hair beside my ear and rubbing my shoulder warmly. “Goodluck bitch!” Alice said holding back a laugh. “Jeez thanks, I'll need it” I pouted my lips scared to death, for some reason I always had stage fright. Some ladies voice called everyone's attention telling them to settle down and sit at their designated tables. We found ours and I started taking deep breaths. The stage was too big it was never wrecking. “Allegra, you might want to make your way to the stage, they’ll be needing you soon. Andrea, will direct you.” Fernando spoke from behind me pointing the stage with dozens of spotlights shining down upon it. “Okay.” I whisper back and stand up only to be stopped by some hand over mine. “You gat this Sis!” Victoria assures me looking into my eyes. Caught off guard by her kindness, I almost wish I wasn't mad at her and thank her, but I just clear my throat and remove my hand from hers politely. Surprisingly, her words give me comfort and boosted my confidence enough to get me to the stage in one piece. “You must be Allegra, Please get in line, it’s about to start.” A woman with a tablet on one hand with pictures of different women finds me. A tag on her breast pocket reads Andrea. “And what exactly is up for auction?” I asked curiously. “Why, you are my dear!” She said smiling. The F*ck?! My mind starts racing and I can't even hear Andrea's instructions on what we are supposed to say. A girl with a high pitched voice starts speaking and everyone falls silent. “Hi y’all! names Cindy LuAnne. I’m from Texas, I love long walks on the beach, I have a degree in Art, and my ideal date would be just talking under the stars.” The brunette says with a wide smile. “There you have it gents! Miss Cindy LuAnne. The starting bid is $1,500!” Andrea speaks enthusiastically. “$2,000!” “$2,500!” “Aw come on men, you could do better than that!” Andrea called out pointing to the now posing Cindy.” “$4,000!” $5,000!” “Wow! $5,000! The highest bid of the night! Going once… going twice… and sold! To that lucky gentleman in the blue.” Cindy sashays out of the stage. I’ve been watching this shit show of an auction for the past 30 minutes. Women would go up, and sell themselves to a bunch of horny mafia members. Absolutely disgusting. And even worse, these girls were treating it like it was a privilege to be picked. Andrea, walked down the stairs and over to me. My heart throbs loudly I can barely breathe. Not the best time for my anxiety to show up. “Alright, you’re up. Remember, state your name, where you’re from, something you like to do, something interesting about you, and your ideal date.” Andrea whispers grabbing my arm. I shot her a deadly glare and a growl, and she immediately let go as her eyes widened. We walked up onto the stage. The lights were so bright, I couldn’t make out anyone in the crowd, it was all a blur. “Last, but certainly not least, we have the one and only Miss Allegra Grey! Thank you for participating in the auction for cancer research.” She spoke looking towards me. “Anything for the beloved children.” I spoke with sarcasm. Now I could be scared but I definitely can put up an act. I have never been more grateful if my acting career up until this point and I just had the most bizarre idea. A mischievous smile escaped my lips.“Did you grab food?” My wife said as I got in the car, bouncing excitedly in the passenger seat. “Did I grab the food?” I said playfully as I held up all her favorite and disgusting food she’s been craving for the past month. “God you’re the best.” She said as she snatched the peanut butter and Oreos out of my hand before I started the car and drove to the private airfields. I fell asleep for most of the flight, and woke up to the somber memory of all four of us laughing on our way to Colombia before both of them jumped out of the plane. Well, my brother willingly jumped out. I looked out the window at the tarmac and the surrounding buildings as we landed smoothly. I looked over at my wife, and gently nudged her shoulder to wake her up. “We’re here love. Come on.” I said as I gave her a slight smile. We exited the jet, and I got into the driver’s seat of the black Range Rover that waited for us and drove towards the shore. The beautiful and lush countryside was gorgeous, and I m
***ROMANO’S POV *** 4 weeks later*** We watched as my brother’s coffin was lowered into the ground. My father held my mother as she was crying hysterically, and to my surprise, even the Grey’s were crying over the loss of Ace. Allegra's coffin was buried on the other side of the field, something I know they’d absolutely protest against. I know that they’d want to be buried side by side, hell they’d even be buried in the same coffin if they could. But I kept my mouth shut and my opinions to myself as I watched the rest of the ceremony with my wife by my side. After Ace and Allegra went down to stop Moskov, the Russians grabbed the family members and dragged us down to the basement on a private elevator. Alice wasn’t a blood relative, so she was left behind. Luckily for me, my wife is a total badass, and practically killed all the Russian members at the venue herself. She found the explosives, and she and the members snuck down to the basement, and rigged them to the bottom of the s
Fuck! Fuck! Fucking Fuck Me!!!! My heart was racing as we pulled up to the estate, both from anger, excitement, anxiety, and fear. I was going to see Ace after 5 months! A part of me wanted to run into his arms, while the other part wanted to slit his neck. As the car stopped, my excitement quickly morphed into anger and sadness. He didn’t want to see me. He didn’t miss me. If he did, he would have written, he would have tried, he would have done something, anything. I needed closure. I needed to know why he completely disappeared from my life like a vapor vanishing in the wind. I needed a freaking explanation, a good one. I stepped out of the car and took a deep breath. I slowly walked up the steps to the house and opened the massive double doors. I opened the doors to see Alice running towards me with a huge smile plastered across her face. She embraced me with so much force, I had to stumble backwards in order to prevent falling on the marble floor. “ALLEGRA! Fuck I’ve missed
For the past 5 weeks that he’s been absent from my life, I was starting to think something happened to him, but it was rather unlikely considering he’s one of the best assassins in the world. He was one hard fucker to kill, and if he was alive… that means he forgot about me… avoided me on purpose. At first, I was a complete and total mess, drinking every night until I couldn’t feel the pain in my chest anymore. But after 2 weeks, I broke beyond the point of no return. I was numb, comfortably numb, and I embraced the familiar feeling with open arms. It was all a lie, all of his words, the sweet nothings he’d whisper in my ear, the promises, everything was a fucking lie. If he meant what he said, he wouldn’t have given up so easily on us because there was just a few thousand miles between us. He just… gave up. I was sent on a recon mission, to strictly gather information and to not engage in any combat unless absolutely necessary. But since Ace vanished from my life, I went on a damn
It’s been 155 days since I’ve arrived in this frozen shithole. I’m not sure whether it’s the constant snowfall, or my aching heart, but time seems to move unbearably slow here. When I first arrived here, things weren’t as bad as I thought it would be. Ace blew up my phone 24/7, our conversations usually consisted of him telling me how much he loved me following a heated discussion consisting of me convincing him to not take the first flight down to Samara and bring me back home. Some nights were impeccable. We talked for hours at a time as the sun rose in Russia, and the moon lit up the sky in New York. No matter how uneventful or dull my day was, I was always excited to go back to my hotel room because I knew Ace would be calling. But as Issac Newton so eloquently described, with every action, there is equal or opposite reaction, some days were less desirable than others. The belligerent calls were an obvious indication that the distance was driving a wedge between us. Russia was
“I can’t wait to take you to Italy, Amore. I can’t believe you’ve never been there!” He said as looked at me with excitement in his grey eyes. “It’s amazing, greatest culture, art, food, wine, you’d absolutely love it there baby.” Ace talked about his home with so much enthusiasm, it was like he was a kid on Christmas, and it was absolutely adorable. “Can you blame me? It’s forbidde, De Luca territory. I’d be killed before I even crossed the border.” I chucked as I took another sip of my wine. It took a moment for my words to process in my mind, and a somber feeling spread throughout my body at the fact that I’d never be able to experience it with him. I could tell he was thinking the same as his smile slowly faded, and was sat in silence. “Ace, how long do you think we can keep this up?” I asked quietly after a few moments. “What do you mean babygirl?” He asked with his eyebrows furrowed. “Us. How long can we continue keeping this a secret. I said as I took another sip of my win
