Grayson Pov

I watched her leave fast, like the hounds of hell were on her heels.

Toast crumbs on her plate. Coffee untouched.

Skittish little thing.

I leaned back in my chair, fingers drumming on the polished wood. My eyes were still on the doorway she’d fled through.

She didn’t even realize, did she?

How much I’d been watching.

How hard it was to keep my distance.

Every time she walked into a room, I felt it. That pull. That need.

And damn it, I wasn’t the kind of man who needed.

But Isla Walker made me want.

I stood, shrugging on my jacket, but not before downing the rest of my coffee like it could drown out the ache clawing at my chest.

Enough of this.

I had a plan

She’d work off that debt, but on my terms. Close enough to keep. Far enough so I wouldn’t lose myself.

Maybe.

I left the dining room, steps slow, like I was buying myself time to think. The north wing wasn’t far. Neither was her room.

One conversation, I told myself. One moment. And then back to business.

IslaI didn’t sleep.Grayson hadn’t come back. Not a word. Not a knock. Just silence.I lay on the huge bed like a guilty ghost, phone still buzzing with scandal, my thoughts chasing each other like rabid dogs.I should leave. I should pack my things and disappear. Maybe find a cave somewhere and hide for a few years until Zara graduates or dies of natural villainy.Instead, I got up. Tied my hair up. Padded down the hallway barefoot. And I found Grayson in the study, alone. His jacket was thrown over the couch, sleeves rolled, eyes bloodshot. He looked like a man who had fought off ten demons and was ready for the eleventh.“You couldn’t sleep either?” I said.He didn’t look up. “No.”Silence.Then, without warning, he said, “Do you really think I’d believe that bullshit video?”I blinked. “I don’t know what you believe anymore.”That got his attention. He stood. Walked toward me, slow and dangerous. “Isla, you think I let just anyone live in the north wing?”I flinched at his tone.

Isla Walker“Because I don’t want you to leave.”Those words echoed through me louder than the fire crackling in the room.He said it like it was simple. Like it wasn’t war.My legs suddenly felt like stilts. I glanced at the couple Mr. and Mrs. Renfield then back at Grayson, who was now looking anywhere but at me.“You’re… clearing the debt?” I asked, because my brain still hadn’t caught up.“Consider it a gift,” Mrs. Renfield said crisply. “Or a transaction, depending on how you feel about emotional leverage.”I blinked. Was that a joke? Was this a test?Grayson stepped closer. “No strings, Isla.”I snorted. “You? No strings? Please.”His lips twitched into the faintest smirk. “Okay. Maybe one.”“What?”“Stay.” His voice dropped low again. “Here. With me.”“Like a kept girl?” I shot back before I could stop myself. “A mistress?”His face darkened, but he didn’t flinch. “Like someone I don’t want to lose.”And that right there that tiny thread of honesty snapped something in me. I ha

Isla WalkerHis lips devoured mine like they’d been starved for years. And maybe… maybe I had too.My back hit the wall before I even registered he moved. His hands slid up my thighs, lifting me like I weighed nothing.I gasped into his mouth as my legs instinctively wrapped around his waist.“Tell me to stop,” he whispered hoarsely, his breath hot against my ear. “And I swear I will.”I should’ve. God, I should’ve.But instead, I pulled him closer. He carried me to the bed, his shirt half-open and eyes darker than sin.And when he laid me down, he did it like I was breakable like the world had already shattered me and he didn’t want to be another fracture. His fingers brushed the hem of my shirt. Paused.“Okay?” he asked. That one word. That single breath of restraint in a man built from fury and fire it undid me.“Yes.”And then there were no more words. Only touches. Only heat. Only us.He kissed every inch of my skin like he had all the time in the world. Like he was trying to l

Grayson — POVNo. No, no, no.I stormed down the hall, my boots hitting the floor like gunshots. I yanked at my shirt collar, heat crawling up my neck. That look on her face. That look.Like I was some monster she had to survive. Like she was bracing for impact every time I came close.I ran a hand through my hair, gripping it at the roots, pacing in front of the window like a caged animal. No woman has ever rejected me.Not once. Not ever. They come before I even think of summoning them. Throw themselves at my feet. Whisper my name like it’s some kind of prayer. And she?She freezes. She stares at me like I’m her executioner.Grayson Voss doesn’t get rejected.“Goddammit!” I snapped, grabbing the crystal ashtray off the side table and hurling it at the wall. Shattered. Just like my patience.I caught sight of myself in the glass — hair a mess, eyes wild, shirt half open. What the hell was I doing? What is she doing to me?“She’s just a girl,” I muttered, pacing again. “Just a scared,
