After reaching home, Rainee poured herself a glass of water and drank it slowly, hoping it would calm her nerves. Her chest still felt tight, weighed down by the chaos in her life. She set the glass on the counter with a soft clink. She took out her laptop from the drawer and started typing something, pouring all her frustration on the email.

She immediately closed her laptop as if hiding something when her mother, Jessica, came closer. Without a word, Jessica placed her hands on her daughter’s shoulders and began massaging them with gentle circles, the way she used to when Rainee was stressed during her exams.

“Do you remember,” Jessica asked softly, “you have a blind date tomorrow?”
