~Kelsey~
I adjusted the itchy blonde wig on my head, tucking a few stray strands behind my ears as I stepped out of the small boutique that had hired me despite my lack of experience. My oversized sunglasses slipped down my nose but I quickly pushed them back up, nervously scanning the street as I locked the store. Despite how many times I had tried to convince myself that I was safe and he would never see past my disguise, I couldn't shake the feeling that he was watching my every move. He was hiding somewhere, waiting to strike again. I had seen a few suspicious looking vehicles but it always ended up being nothing. The suspense was slowly driving me insane and paranoia clung to me like a second skin, suffocating every breath I took. Every whisper of fabric, every uneven footstep behind me sent a jolt of dread down my spine and I hated it. I took a deep breath. I was being ridiculous. He wasn’t jobless enough to be monitoring my every move. I was safe as long as I was outside. I moved carefully, taking longer routes home and avoiding alleys and deserted streets. I ducked into several random stores, pausing to pretend I was interested in things I didn’t need. By the time I reached my street, my nerves were completely frayed. But I let myself relax. This property now belonged to Mr Alessandro. My stalker would be more than crazy to come here. I climbed the front steps, already reaching for my keys when my eyes landed on the small vase on the porch. A large black box nestled securely untop of it, suffocating my plants. A chill crawled up my spine. I hadn’t ordered anything. No one knew where I lived. Except him. Swallowing hard, I bent down, my fingers trembling as I lifted the lid. A single dead rose lay inside. Its petals were smudged with streaks of black and brown. Was this some type of threat? Beneath the rose lay a small folded card. I reached for it and took a deep breath before opening it. It was blank. No name, no nothing- only an address scribbled at the bottom of the paper. My stomach dropped as I realized that the address on the card was Marcus's home address. I slammed the lid shut and stumbled back, my breath quick and uneven. The street was completely empty, but suddenly, it felt like there were eyes watching, laughing at my fear and making fun of my trauma. I turned sharply, scanning the rooftops, the yard, garden and tool shed. Nothing! There wasn't even a sign that anyone had been here. I wasn’t stupid enough to believe I was alone, he was definitely somewhere with a wide grin plastered on his stupid face. I grabbed the box, stormed inside and locked the door behind me. I checked the windows. The back door. Even the closets, as if he could be hiding inside. Only when I was certain I was alone did I let my knees buckle. I sat on the floor, my dad's old baseball bat clutched in my trembling hands. I wouldn’t go to the address. I wouldn’t play his game. He could go ahead and report me to the police. There was no evidence to prove I had hurt Marcus. I would remain hidden and avoid him until he gets bored and goes back to wherever the fuck he came from. I spent the entire night practicing swings just incase my stalker decided to show up. I grabbed a kitchen knife and a rusted steel pipe, they would do enough damage incase he showed up and tried to attack me again. Unfortunately, or rather fortunately, he never showed up. The silence stretched for several more days. He didn’t appear in my room, he didn't contact me. It was like he had disappeared. By the eight day, I convinced myself that maybe, just maybe, he was done with me. I could finally let my hair down and live like a normal girl. Mr Alessandro had began renovating the mansion and when I wasn't in the boutique, I spent my time overseeing the renovations. This night was no different, I stayed late at the kitchen, cleaning up after the carpenters. Dust clung to my skin, my muscles ached and the air smelled like fresh wood and varnish. I was beyond exhausted. I needed rest. I had barely showered or slept properly since my stalker came into my life. But now that he was gone, I can finally get much needed rest. I slipped out of my dirty clothes, filled the tub with hot water and lavender soap, and turned down the lights. Steam curled around me as I sank into the hot water, the heat soothing my sore body. I let my head rest against the edge of the tub, the distant sound of the wind outside lulling me into a hazy calm. My eyelids grew heavy and I soon drifted into sleep. ~ The sound of slow music jolted me awake. My heartbeat quickened as I realized the music was coming from my bedroom. I sat up slowly, water sloshing around me. My skin prickled with unease as I turned my head toward the bathroom door. It was locked. The entire house was locked. But someone had gotten into my room. The music was coming from there. My heartbeat pounded in my ears, my body frozen in the cooling water. Every instinct screamed at me to stay still. As long as the person didn't know I was in here, they would think the house was empty and leave. Suddenly, my eyes caught movement at the edge of my tub. I inhaled sharply, my entire body locking up as I reached for my phone. I turned on the flashlight and pointed it towards the edge of the tub. My heart skipped a beat and a scream escaped from my throat. He was there! Standing just feet away, watching me. Watching me sleep. My stomach twisted violently, my fingers wrapping around my phone like my life depended on it. My throat was dry and my lips trembled violently as I tried to speak. His dark eyes remained fixed on me like a predator watching its prey and I trembled under his gaze. "Get out of the tub, Kelsey-Grace."I woke up feeling extremely heavy, like someone had stuffed my body with sandbags. Everything felt heavy. My arms, my legs, even my eyelids. The sheets beneath me were so soft, I spread out my hand and caressed it slowly. The scent in the air smelled like faint cinnamon, oakwood, leather and what was definitely tobacco. My heart dropped into my stomach."No....no...no fucking way," I muttered under my breath.I knew this place. Everything felt too familiar.I was back at the mansion.Panic shot through me like lightning. I pushed off the bed, my legs wobbling like jelly but I didn’t care. I stumbled to my feet and scanned the room. I froze as soon as I spotted him sitting in a chair across the room, his eyes glued to his phone, completely absorbed in whatever he was doing. He hadn’t noticed me. Perfect!I crept toward the door, each step calculated and silent, holding my breath like even air might betray me. My fingers brushed the doorknob. I turned it slowly. It made a low click sou
I could still feel the imprint of his hand over my mouth and his breath on my neck. The hungry and possessive look in his eyes was all I could think about as I stumbled out of the bathroom, my heart racing like I’d just sprinted a marathon. I was trying not to fall apart. I felt vulnerable and exposed. I knew he was still here and he was waiting for another opportunity to humiliate me again.“There you are!” Vanessa’s voice cut through the loud music, pulling me back to reality.“I’ve been looking everywhere for you,” she grinned, then leaned in with a mischievous glint in her eyes. “And I saw that man—that god awful sexy man walk out right before you. Girl, who was that? And how the hell did you bag someone that fine without telling me?”I couldn’t answer. My lips were sealed shut by panic.Vanessa’s smile faded instantly. “Kelsey?”I blinked and looked away. “I’m fine. I just... I want to go home.”She stepped closer, her thick brows knitting together. “Kelsey.. did he do something
"Kelsey, please come with me."Vanessa was practically on her knees, holding my hands like her life depended on it. Her eyes were wide with desperation and the faintest hint of excitement. She only got this excited when she was up to no good."I don’t know,” I hesitated. “After what happened at the gallery, I just… I’m not sure I’m ready for another crowd.”“I swear it’s just a regular party,” she insisted. “No creepy installations from one of your secret admirers, no surprises. Just drinks, music, and dancing. Please, I need you there.”I stared at her and despite every alarm in my head going off, I gave in. “Fine. But I’m not staying late.”Her face lit up like a kid on christmas. “Deal! Now go get ready. I laid something out for you.”I should’ve known. When I stepped into my room, the dress on the bed was practically illegal and would be banned in several countries.Black, short, backless, and tight enough to cut off my circulation. It had a plunging neckline that left nothing to
Vanessa was sobbing into my chest like a child. Her tears soaked through my shirt, but I didn’t move. I just held her till she calmed down a little."Why didn’t you tell me?” she sobbed, her fingers gripping my arms tightly. “Kelsey, why did you keep all these from me?”I closed my eyes, my mind clouded with guilt and regret. “Because there was a lot at stake,” I said softly. “My job. Your family. Lily. I didn’t want to be the one who ruined it all after you have shown me so much kindness.”She pulled back to look at me, her eyes were blood red and her face was swollen and puffy. “You should have at least told me," she murmured as she wiped her eyes with her palms."I'm so sorry my dad humiliated you and Lily-"Before she could complete her sentence, the door creaked open and Lily walked in.Her boots trailed in snow from the porch and she spread it around the door mat like a careless child. Her face fell the moment she spotted me and Vanessa together. It was almost like she knew wh
"Miss, you're under arrest for robbery and vandalism," an officer said as he clasped handcuffs around my wrists. They dug into my wrists like metal teeth as the officer yanked me out of the gallery, past a growing crowd of whispering guests.I didn’t fight. I didn’t scream.I just walked.I was too shocked to do anything. I had been stunned into silence and somehow this immense level of betrayal had silenced me completely.I kept my eyes on the floor. Humiliation burning like acid through every inch of me."Bloody thief," Lily spat as she shook her head in disappointment.I was forced into the car like a common criminal. I wasn't given a chance to defend myself or explain. Everyone had just assumed the worst of me.When we got to the station, they didn’t even ask for my side of the story. They just threw me in a chair, shoved a paper in front of me, and instructed me to sign it.“You either pay for the vase or you’ll be charged to court," an officer said.I blinked at him, my voice ho
Lily moved in a few days after I had found her and Vanessa tangled up in each other.Just like that.No warning or discussion, it was almost like my opinion about her moving in wasn't even needed.Vanessa thought it was quite spontaneous and Lily wanted to be closer to her but I knew better. She was here to watch me.To control me and make sure I didn't spill her not so little secret to Vanessa.Everywhere I turned, Lily was there. Initiating sex at the most random times, kissing Vanessa’s cheek or moaning her name out loud. Holding her hand. Sitting on her lap like she owned her. It was like a performance tailored for me.And it was working. It made me sick. It was bad enough that I had to see her at work but she had managed to crawl her way into my sanctuary.I kept my distance from her and Vanessa.I said nothing about her and Robert. Not because I was afraid, but because I didn’t know how to protect Vanessa without breaking her heart to pieces.~Vanessa’s birthday was on the last
