Belle didn’t understand why Bastian said that. Her mind was in chaos, and the ache in her heart intensified. They weren’t supposed to have any kind of relationship, right? So why was Bastian so openly unwilling to let her go?

“What’s wrong with you!” Belle shouted, unable to hold back her tears any longer.

Bastian hugged her tighter. His heart hurt, too. The more he tried to ignore Belle, the more unbearable the pain and suffocating longing became.

“I know I was wrong, I hurt you. But I have no choice, Belle. I just think… being with you will only make everything more chaotic,” Bastian confessed.

“Oh, so you think I’m a mess? That I only bring trouble into your life?”

“No! Not like that! You misunderstood me!”

“Then what? Why are you doing this to me? I’ve been trying to forget you! But suddenly you change!”

“I never changed.”

Belle sobbed uncontrollably in Bastian’s arms. She felt too weak to resist. She couldn’t deny that her love for Bastian hadn’t faded at all.

The car door shut the moment Belle stepped out, her gaze shifting to the hospital sign mounted on the eight-story building. Eve got out too, quickly closing the door and setting the car alarm before they both started walking toward the hospital.Belle’s heart was in turmoil, though fear and curiosity were the strongest emotions. She just couldn’t understand why Felix’s mother had asked her to come. What kind of illness did Felix have that made him specifically request to see her? Was it that serious?Belle checked the previous message she had received during their drive; it listed the hospital’s name, as well as the floor and room number where Felix was being treated. Together with Eve, she stepped into the elevator and rode it up to the fifth floor.“Remember, I’ll check the room first. If there’s anyone there, we’ll leave immediately,” Eve reminded her. “Right,” Belle nodded obediently. The soft ding of the elevator sounded as it stopped on the fifth floor. The two women walked tow

Seeing Eve’s probing stare, Belle quickly turned her gaze away. But Eve was faster—she caught Belle’s chin, forcing her to meet her eyes. “What’s wrong?” Eve asked, her tone firm and demanding. “Nothing.” Belle pretended to focus on the book resting on her lap. “You’ve been on the same page for thirty minutes.” “I feel like I’m being watched by my literacy teacher, Miss Pantsy—my teacher back in elementary school.” “Don’t change the subject,” Eve hissed. She snatched the book from Belle’s lap and set it on the table. Belle immediately fell silent, wetting her lips nervously after being caught. Eve sighed softly, her eyes full of concern. “Belle, did Felix bother you? You can tell me,” she said. “No. I haven’t seen Felix or talked to him.” Belle shook her head. “Really, I’m fine, okay? Nothing happened. Everything’s totally normal.” “Your behavior isn’t normal.”Belle’s eyes couldn’t hide the sorrow buried inside her. No matter how well she masked it, Eve’s hawk-like gaze saw t

“Are you okay?”Bastian asked, breaking the silence between them. Belle could feel his breath brushing against her face, but she froze in his arms."Yeah, I'm..."Belle stepped back, trying to distance herself from Bastian. The moment was too awkward. Besides, she didn’t want to cause any trouble with Renee. Who would enjoy being glared at constantly? Falling into Bastian’s arms out of nowhere would definitely upset Renee.Belle felt like a bitch because, deep down, she still had feelings for Bastian. She sat down while Bastian moved away from her. He stood up and turned on the flashlight.“Did the fuse blow? It’s not like the power usually goes out.”"Ever since the incident at City Hall, there have been a few blackouts here. Maybe they’re doing maintenance.”“Really? Should I call the power company?”“No need.” Belle shook her head, though Bastian couldn't see it. "It'll come back on soon.""Okay."Bastian sat down beside her again. She watched him open the chat app and type a messa

Going back to the gallery wasn’t such a good idea after all. Belle could feel Renee’s annoyed expression every time she looked her way. Even though Belle just stayed quiet in the corner with Anthony and the others, including Eve.Still, she felt bad about leaving early, so she decided to wait until the event was over—miserably so. Who would enjoy being stared down the whole evening by Bastian’s girlfriend?“Babe, I’m heading home. I’m exhausted. Don’t stay too late, okay?” Renee said, kissing Bastian on the lips before leaving.Renee showed her affection on purpose—right in front of Belle.“I told you, I’m going back to the store,” Bastian said, looking puzzled.“No. You’re going back to the apartment,” Renee ordered, then strutted out without saying goodbye to anyone.Belle didn’t mind Renee’s cold behavior toward her, but the others definitely felt the chill.“You two had a fight?” Nick asked, glancing toward the door.Bastian shook his head. “No. Why?”“She just left like we don’t

The anger radiating from Felix was almost tangible to Belle. Especially when he was driving—reckless and fast—making her terrified. Neither of them spoke, and the silence between them was tense.“Were you trying to lie to me?” Felix growled. “A relationship won’t work without honesty, Belle.”Of course, Belle knew that. But shouldn’t being in a relationship with Felix mean getting to know and understand each other first? Not like this. She felt like she always had to be the one who understood, who complied with whatever Felix wanted. Meanwhile, he never seemed to care about how she felt.“I went to my brother’s friend’s place. My brother was there. What’s your problem?” Belle tried to keep her tone calm.“You didn’t tell me!”“I forgot, okay? Why are you blowing this out of proportion?”“We haven’t even been together that long, and you’re already lying to me!”That one triggered Belle. All this time, she’d never once deceived him. This was the first time she’d forgotten something, an
