Delaney

The cell was dark, save for the dim lamp that was mounted on an aluminium post just outside. The damp flooring and leaking cracked walls had me freezing up, so much so that my skin was covered with goosebumps. The strong stench of rust and ammonia clung to every breath I took, making me sneeze until I couldn't anymore.

I stared at the cell door, the dried blood smeared on some of the vertical bars telling a story of torture. My heart constricted at the mere imagination of my blood being next to be spilt in the dark cell, making my stomach churn. I didn't know how long I had been in the cell, but my tears had dried up, and all I did was rock back and forth, whispering to myself.

Screams of other prisoners echoed through the dungeons, prompting me to cover my ears. It was, however, futile, and I could still hear every cry, every plea, every insult, every sound of bones cracking and every sound of the whip as it came into contact with the flesh.
