Raphael moved like a storm across the courtyard.

Students parted instinctively before his commanding stride. The stranger’s hand on my arm ignited something feral in him. In two heartbeats, Raphael was there. He yanked the other Alpha back with bruising force.

“Touch my brother again,” Raphael snarled, voice low and lethal, “and I’ll bury your future so deep you’ll wish you’d never heard the name Voss. Walk away. Now.”

The student stammered. His scent spiked with terror. He fled without a backward glance. Raphael released him only after he was far away. His attention snapped immediately to me. Those storm-gray eyes burned with barely leashed intensity.

I jerked away, heart pounding. “I didn’t need your damn intervention. I’m not helpless.”

“Could’ve fooled me,” Raphael shot back. He gripped my elbow with unyielding strength. “You’re still flushed from last night. Looking like easy prey. Get in the car.”

The drive back to the penthouse crackled with unspoken fury. I stared out the window, jaw clenched. Raphael’s cedar-smoke scent filled the confined space. It made the lingering heat in my veins simmer dangerously. Every shift in my seat reminded me how attuned my body was to the Alpha beside me. It infuriated me.

“You orchestrated that,” I accused as we pulled into the garage. “The text. The sudden ‘stray.’ You make sure no one gets close, then act like my savior.”

Raphael killed the engine with more force than necessary. “I protect this family’s reputation. You’re in no condition to be throwing yourself at the first Alpha who smiles your way. Show some restraint, Arlo. You’re better than that.”

We rode the elevator in heavy silence, the air felt thick enough to choke on. the moment the penthouse door closed, I rounded on him.

“I’m not a whore looking for a quick fix,” I hissed. I shoved at his chest. The push barely moved him, but our bodies ended up close. Too close. Heat radiated between us. “You drop everything to play warden, then lecture me like I’m some disgrace to the bloodline. Why the hell do you care so much if you hate me?”

Raphael’s jaw ticked. His eyes darkened as he backed me against the wall without touching me. His hands braced on either side of my head, caging me in. The position sent unwanted sparks racing across my skin.

“You think this is hate?” he said. “You have no idea what I deal with every time you call. Every damn heat. Watching you struggle and knowing—”

He cut himself off and pushed away abruptly. Raphael dragged a hand through his hair and paced a tight line across the living room. His suit jacket came off in a fast movement and landed on the couch. “Change your clothes, you reek of that idiot’s scent now. It’s disgusting.”

I laughed bitterly then stormed to my room and slammed the door hard. But the heat followed me. It grew stronger because of Raphael’s nearness and the adrenaline from the confrontation. I stripped down, pulled on loose sweats and a soft tee, and tried to ignore how my body ached for relief only his presence seemed to provide. The word stepbrother felt more complicated every day.

When I emerged, Raphael had dimmed the lights. He set a glass of water with fresh suppressants on the island. No words. I took them grudgingly. The cool liquid soothed my throat even as tension coiled tighter in my gut.

“You didn’t have to stay last night,” I muttered, leaning against the counter. “Or pick me up today. Parents are gone. I could’ve managed.”

Raphael snorted and poured himself a drink from the bar cart. “And risk you dragging the family name through another scandal? Don’t flatter yourself. This is duty.” But his eyes lingered as he spoke. They traced the flush on my neck and the way my chest rose and fell. His knuckles whitened around his glass.

I stepped closer despite myself, drawn like a moth. “Duty. Right. That’s why your scent spikes every time I’m near you during my cycles. That’s why you growl at anyone who looks at me twice.” I reached out and poked his chest. “Admit it. You get off on controlling me.”

Raphael caught my wrist. His grip was firm but not painful. For a heartbeat, we stood frozen. My pulse hammered under his fingers. Our breaths mingled. The pull was magnetic. His thumb brushed once, almost tenderly, over my racing pulse before he released me as if burned.

“Enough.” Raphael’s voice was rough. “Go rest. I have calls to make. The empire doesn’t run itself while I play chauffeur.”

I retreated to the couch. My body felt exhausted but my mind stayed wide awake. I watched from the corner of my eye as Raphael set up his laptop at the dining table. His posture was rigid. He worked with the efficiency that made him feared in boardrooms. Every few minutes, his gaze flicked over, checking. Protecting. Then he acted like it meant nothing.

Hours slipped by. The suppressants helped. I dozed off with dreams tangled in strong hands and conflicting emotions. When I woke, the penthouse was quiet except for the low murmur of Raphael on a business call in the next room. His voice was cold. Every bit the merciless Alpha heir.

“…handle it. No loose ends. If anyone approaches him again, make them disappear.”

My stomach twisted. Ruthless. Always ruthless. Yet here he sat, having dropped every meeting to drag me home.

Night fell. Raphael finally ended his calls and approached the couch. He draped a light blanket over me without a word. Our eyes met in the dim light. No smirk. Just raw, unspoken tension that made my breath catch.

“Sleep,” he ordered gruffly, turning away. “I’m not going anywhere.”

As I drifted off again, one hand unconsciously pressed to my lower abdomen where a strange, new warmth seemed to settle. Unease prickled at the edges of my mind.

  • PREGNANT AFTER MY STEP BROTHER KNOTTED ME   Quiet

ElaraTwo days after Reyna's arrest, my mother suggested something that felt almost absurd given everything we'd just lived through."Go somewhere," she said, setting a mug of tea in front of me at the kitchen table. "Both of you. Not to solve anything. Not to investigate anything. Just go somewhere and be normal for an afternoon.""Normal," I repeated, like the word belonged to a language I'd forgotten how to speak."You've spent a month being a detective, a witness, a headline, and a hostage to your own phone." She sat down across from me, tired eyes softer than they'd been in weeks. "I think you've earned a few hours of just being eighteen."I texted Kael before I'd even finished my tea, and by early afternoon we were sitting on a blanket at the edge of the lake outside town, the same lake his family used to take him to as a kid, before company retreats and boardrooms replaced anything resembling a childhood."This feels strange," Kael admitted, stretching out beside me, sunlight c

  • PREGNANT AFTER MY STEP BROTHER KNOTTED ME   The Meeting

KaelThe morning of Kane's meeting with prosecutors arrived gray and overcast, the kind of sky that made the whole city look like it was holding its breath along with the rest of us.None of us had really slept. I dozed for maybe an hour on Elara's couch sometime after three, waking every time my phone buzzed with a notification that turned out to be nothing important, my body too wired to let me rest properly even when my mind was exhausted enough to beg for it.By seven, everyone was back at the kitchen table, the same table that had hosted more of these conversations over the last month than I ever could have imagined a single piece of furniture surviving."Diego's source said the meeting starts at nine," I said, checking my phone again out of habit more than necessity. "We probably won't hear anything concrete until at least noon, maybe later depending on how long they spend going through the recordings.""Five hours of waiting," Elara said, wrapping both hands around a mug of cof

  • PREGNANT AFTER MY STEP BROTHER KNOTTED ME   What Kane Knew

ElaraTomorrow felt too far away and much too close at the same time.We spent the hours before Kane's meeting with prosecutors doing what we could, which mostly meant waiting, the same exhausting waiting that had defined this entire month. Diego kept digging. My father sat with Mom going through the other six names in Reyna's folder, cross referencing them against public records, trying to find anyone still local enough to reach.Kael barely sat still the whole day."You should sleep," I told him around midnight, finding him still at the kitchen table scrolling through Diego's timeline for what had to be the tenth time."I can't. Not until we know what he actually tells them tomorrow." He rubbed both hands over his face, exhaustion carved deep into every line of him. "If he confirms she was running things, this becomes real in a way it hasn't been yet. Official. My father's going to have to answer for trusting her this long, and I'm going to have to figure out what that means for the

  • PREGNANT AFTER MY STEP BROTHER KNOTTED ME   Six Months Ago

KaelNone of us slept that night. By six in the morning, Diego had pulled everything he could find on the timeline, and we were back around the kitchen table with fresh coffee and the same exhausted dread from hours earlier."Walk me through it again," I said. "Slowly this time."Diego shared his screen through the laptop, a timeline stretched across it, dates and transfers laid out in careful order. "Six months ago, Reyna opened two new accounts overseas. Small deposits at first, nothing that would trip alarms. Around the same time, she starts increasing contact with Doyle, based on communication records I managed to pull.""Doyle was already working for her by then," I said slowly. "Before any of this with Elara even started.""Looks that way." Diego zoomed in on a specific date. "Four months ago, right before Elara's heat cycle apparently shifted early, there's a transfer to a pharmaceutical research contact. Someone specializing in suppressant formulations."My stomach turned. "Ar

  • PREGNANT AFTER MY STEP BROTHER KNOTTED ME   The Other Names

ElaraWe spread the folder's contents across my kitchen table at midnight, all five of us now, my father included, nobody willing to wait until morning to see exactly what Kael and my mother had pulled out of that house."There's seven names," my father said, sorting through the documents with the careful attention of someone who used to do this professionally, back before his own life got buried the same way. "Seven separate cases, going back almost fifteen years.""All connected to the Voss company," Kael said, reading over his shoulder. "All handled the same way. Money moving, records disappearing, and Reyna's signature on every single authorization."I picked up one of the folders, a name I didn't recognize, a woman named Priya Anand, dates going back nine years. "Who's this?""Former employee," my father said, scanning the attached documents. "Filed a complaint about safety violations at one of the manufacturing plants. The complaint disappeared. She left the company a month late

  • PREGNANT AFTER MY STEP BROTHER KNOTTED ME   Inside

KaelThe side door off the kitchen was unlocked, the way it always had been, Reyna never bothered with extra security because she'd spent her whole career making sure other people needed it more than she did.I eased it open slowly, Elara's mother right behind me, both of us listening for any sound over the hum of the refrigerator inside."Study this way," I whispered, leading her down a hallway I could have walked blind, past photos of holidays I'd forgotten and some I hadn't, Reyna smiling in every single one like she'd never once considered any of it might come apart. The study door was closed but not locked. I eased it open and flipped on my phone's flashlight instead of the overhead light, keeping the beam low."Diego," I said quietly into the phone, still connected to the speaker with the volume turned down. "We're in. What am I looking for.""Filing cabinets, a safe, anything locked that seems out of place for a home office," Diego said. "Financial documents specifically. Bank
